Hi,

I have a similar issue. Getting a 404 when I use the breadcrumb link.

Example of the structure on my local site:

Made a page for the forums titled: domain/community with the bbpress template selected.

Made a forum with name titled: Test 1

Made a topic for the above forum titled : ‘First topic test’

Starting from the forums main page: domain/community, breadcrumb reads:
Home > Community
With the Forum ‘Test 1’ listed below the search bar. – All is ok. 🙂

Then selecting ‘Test 1’ forum. The forum opens and displays link to the topic ‘First topic test’, the breadcrumb now shows as:
Home > Forums > Test 1
(Note, even if you change the root slug for the forums to say ‘community’ it still displays in the breadcrumb as ‘Forums’ at this stage, but thats a separate issue I’m having).

At this point in the breadcrumb both ‘Forums’ and ‘Test 1’ are links which both go to domain/forums/forum/test-1

Selecting the topic ‘First topic test’ opens the topic. With the url as ‘domain/forums/topic/first-topic-test’

The breadcrumb now shows as:
‘Home > Forums > Test 1’
The topic has not been added to the breadcrumb.

The link on the ‘test 1’ element of the breadcrumb is:
domain/forums/topic/test-1 but produces a 404 as ‘test 1’ is a forum, not a topic.

Whilst the ‘Forums’ link of the breadcrumb is to the page I am already on ‘domain/forums/topic/first-topic-test’.

I’m not sure where it’s going wrong. Any help much appreciated.

Hi, as you likely know WordPress automatically creates archives for things like “by month” “by day” and “by year” for all your posts.

To create a custom archive, I think you need to create a new “page” then use the template options on right to select a template, then possibly use page builder to set the elements you want on that archive page. Kind of like making custom home page, but custom archive page.

To make this possible first you have to make a page and name it “Homepage”

After you do that then you have to go in WP settings,reading and on the top where it say “Front page displays” you will choose the page you made called “Homepage”

Now with all that out the way you only have to go in to pages and look for that page you made called “Homepage” and click on the edit botton and in there it will show you how to build a home page with blocks 1,2,3,4 etc…

and then look for “Home Page and Templates” and it will teach you all you need to know…

you might trying adding some basic CSS to the custom CSS box,

like

.img {border:1px solid #CCCCCC;}

but then adapt that to any of the image classes being used on the templates — do “view source” on one of your pages to see the actual tag being used for images, or existing class.

Here is a class used for full size image, placed into a post

.size-full {border:1px solid #CCCCCC; !important}

something like that ?

I have not actually tried this, but seems like something along those lines should work 🙂

Hi,
I tried to do essatamente as I said but it does not work.
I have the latest version of the template. This problem is giving me after upgrading to the latest versions.

How can I fix?

Actually What i want to achieve this i can explain you in detail.

I want to display a number of fields “labels” along with their data in a column format. Like this image.

But i want to display these all fields,labels, groups( almost 44 fields) under one tab that may be named as Features.
In the second tab i want to display Content that can be named as “Review”. In the Third tab i want to display a gallery. And in the Fourth tab there is a purchase guide named as “buy now”.

Previously i tried a lot to get these working. But failed. And one more thing, i want to create a custom post type “Phones” with a taxonomy “Brands” for it. So, that each time, i don’t have to choose a template for executing these functions. Further whenever there is no content in a field it will not display, If there is no content in a field label, the field label will not show.

Can you please also tell me if i can create a comparison page using these fields. Like if i want to compare iPhone 5 features with iPhone 6. Is it possible with ACF?

Well that’s what you can use the custom page template for, to add classes. Then again, depending on what you’re trying to do overall, VC can handle what you need.

Just create your page using the default page template with the articles list and add the styles for that page to the page via the VC page settings (grey cog at the top right of the editor screen). You can also edit rows and columns and enter custom CSS there as well.

I know but if I change the CSS for one class, it is going to change everything on all the other part of the theme but I want to use custom class and make it look a bit different.

If you’re just wanting to change how things look, and not move things around, then you should using custom CSS. Use FireFox or Chrome to open the existing page, right click on the part you want to modify and select “Inspect Element” from the context menu. You can see the style classes and IDs used to target your CSS changes.

Well keep in mind that getting a new page template is the easy part. In order to make use of the loop feature after the page content and other features from Newspaper, you’ll have to study the functions and tags used by tagDiv and use them in your custom template. It’s not always easy to connect the dots on some of the functions so just remember to ask questions about specific issues here on the forum so they can help you.

That should be the file page-homepage-loop.php in the root directory of the Newspaper theme. Copy the contents to a new file named page-homepage-custom.php and edit the following line at the top of the file.

/* Template Name: Homepage - with article list */

To read like:

/* Template Name: Homepage - Custom with articles */

Then upload that changed file to the theme directory root where you found its source. The new page template should now be showing in the templates drop-down menu on the editor screen. Make your desired changes to that file.

Yes, just checked your file and the problem is in the context — you forgot to wrap the new code in a <?php> tag. Hence it’s being treated as HTML. Your whole file should look like this:
