Hi,
just some input … what we do is upload images via FTP we don’t want multi-cloned; like logos, or branding, or “about us” stuff, avatar images, etc.
For posts, one way we cut down on multiple image creation is this
a) upload featured image via post panel; then select as featured image
b) additional images on post, we load via html, from FTP versions, so only ONE file exists.
c) for optimizations, we did the most common tricks
— 1) set the default WP sm/med/lg sizes to the 3 sizes we most commonly use, and set largest size to the larger block image on front page, sometimes larger than our post image (640×480)
— 2) turn “off” image sizes we are not using from theme panel, limit sizes used on sidebar to same module sizes used for smaller home page sections
— set all category, archive, 404, author, search templates to use same size images
d) normal WP image compression optimizations, as in our case we pre-optimize uploaded files, and we set the default compression for ImageMagick/GDlib used by WP to 55 or 60 vs default 90.
This helped control the sizes.
On one old site, where images had not been compressed well, and/or could not all be “regenerated” we downloaded the image folder via FTP, then applied a local application to optimize all the images then uploaded the optimized image folder back to server.
Hope some of that helped, or perhaps food for thought đ
Hello,
Please try to disable all your plugins except visual composer and regenerate thumbnail again using the force regenerate plugin. Also clear your cache and cdn if you use it. (do not use the photon feature of jetpack as it is known to cause problems with our theme)
Let us know how it goes.
Thank you!
Hi,
All my Thumbnails are displayed in poor quality.
I already tried the following things, but nothing worked:
1. add_filter( ‘jpeg_quality’, create_function( ”, ‘return 90;’ ) );
2. regenerated all Thumbnails with the Plugin
3. deactivated WP Smush
4. Cleared Cache
5. Uploaded HD Photos
None of these options work for me and I dont know what to do anymore.
Any help is much appreciated!
Thank you đ
I am trying to add a few custom image sizes inside the functions.php of the child theme. I add the code below and then run Regenerate Thumbnails on an image, but it doesn’t create any of my custom image sizes. I know the plugin is working because if I delete one of the existing thumbs, it recreates it.
Am I doing something wrong?
function custom_image_sizes() {
add_image_size("custom-thumb", 218, 125, true);
add_image_size("custom-large-thumb", 290, 166, true);
add_image_size("custom-medium", 532, 304, true);
add_image_size("custom-slider", 700, 400, true);
}
add_action('after_setup_theme', 'custom_image_sizes', 11);
Hi
You can try to keep the number of the thumb types used on the site as low as possible then deactivate the thumbs which are not used from theme panel > block settings: http://screencast.com/t/f33XshooOx In order to keep the thumbs type number low you have to use the same blocks and modules for every page. For example you can chose 2-3 blocks and use them on every page. Like this you will need only the thumbs used for those blocks, not all available thumbs. Also for post displayed by the loop.php file, like those from category page, archive page or latest article part you can use a module already used by the blocks from your pages.
A practical example will look like this:
– if i build a page with page-builder + latest as page template, and also i use block 1 on that page, the number of thumbs types used will be equal with 1. For every post the theme will use module 1 which have a thumb by 300x160px: http://screencast.com/t/XJRUBrkcN – http://screencast.com/t/dQ4Io1kXg
This is just a basic example pointing the way in which you can reduce the thumbs types used on the page. You can combine 3-4 or more blocks which have at least one commune module. You can check which module it’s used for a specific block here: http://screencast.com/t/m2AWJrkM Make sure that you deactivate all unused thumbs from theme panel then regenerate your thumbnails using the Force Regenerate Thumbnails plugin. The plugin will delete all the images corresponding for the thumbs which are deactivated from theme panel.
This can be a tricky task but it’s the only way to reduce the size of uploads folder.
Hope this help.
Thanks!
Updated to 6.5. Run the update script. Regenerated thumbnails. No images on site (including thumbnails, blog post images, everything).
What could be the issue?

Hello bebiboy,
Please try to disable all the active plugins, clear all cache and install only the plugins that come bundled with our theme. You have to regenerate the thumbs for the images with the Force Regenerate plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/force-regenerate-thumbnails/ Most of our clients who have used this plugin were satisfied.
Unfortunately, the Photon plugin does not work with our theme and we do not recommend it. Also, this is known to be a problematic plugin and you should find an alternative. I will recommend you to use a WP Smush, as you can see in our documentation, here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-make-the-site-faster/ .
Hope this helps and let us know how it goes!
Thank you for the message!
Hello,
I do not know what theme version you are using, but since newspaper 6 we added this menu: http://screencast.com/t/kaW2Tl0r92M where you can select the thumbs you want to use and avoid creating too many image sizes. Just keep in mind that already created images will not be removed by the theme. For this you will need the force regenerate plugin.
If you require an update you can follow this topic to see how it can be done: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
Thank you!

Hi,
Sorry by my english in advance, I know isn’t good.
I have a really big problem that, for some reason, last days has increased a lot. My site shows me (and my colaborators) an error message 500. I know this is a server error and I talk with my hosting provider plenty of times but they ensure me that there is something wrong on my site that cause problems on server. I use a VPS2 so is a good hosting.
Probably the problem exists because a plugin or maybe it’s something wrong on my theme (I’d like to know if there are some cases like mine). I’d like a private support (via mail) and, if is needed, I’ll create an admin acces so you can enter on my site and see what’s happening on it, because right now is extremly difficult work with.
Just in case, I enumerate all plugins I have on my site, maybe one of them is known to be problematic with your theme:
Akismet.
Autoptimize.
better-wp-security.
cookie law info.
imsanity.
js-composer.
kk-star-rating.
regenerate-thumbnails.
shortocodes ultimate.
subscribes to comments reload.
social counter.
thumbnail upscale.
totalpoll.
twitter meta cards.
user rol editor.
Seo by yoast.
wp rocket.
Anybody can help me? Thanks!!
Hiya,
I have a site using Newspaper, where I’ve created a full-width gallery which spans the entire width of the page:
http://www.londoninstereo.com/run-the-jewels-gallery/
I’ve created this using the TagDiv built in gallery, and the issue I’m having is the thumbnail size for the gallery has a max height of 420px, which is smaller than what I need for this gallery.
I copied td_config.php into my child theme (newspaper-child/includes) and changed the height of the thumbnail for the gallery so it now reads:
td_api_thumb::add(‘td_0x420’,
array(
‘name’ => ‘td_0x420’,
‘width’ => 0,
‘height’ => 650,
‘crop’ => array(‘center’, ‘top’),
‘post_format_icon_size’ => ‘normal’, //what play icon to load (small or normal)
‘used_on’ => array(
‘tagDiv Image Gallery’
)
)
);
Then I regenerated all thumbnails, but it hasn’t made a difference to the image size being called.
Is there a way I can either amend the TagDiv Image Gallery thumbnail, or tell the image gallery to use a different thumbnail (i.e. the 1068×0 thumbnail would be large enough for this).
Thanks!
Hannah
1. Okay on the GTMetrix, you will see a Minify CSS. click on “see optimized…”. You will copy it and then go to your Editor, select or clear the style.css, then paste the minified css.
2. Search for EWWW image optimizer plugin, install it and “Bulk optimize” all your images.
3. Then search for Regenerate Thumbnails Plugin. You should Regenerate your thumbnails that way they will fit in your blocks.
4. Download WP Super cache and set it up, use mod_rewrite, it is the fastest.
5. You should get Cloudflare, and set it up as well then click on minify css and javascript but not html because WP Super Cache handles that for you.
All these should reduce your page size and increase your pagespeed.
All these settings I gave you made me score 90+ on desktop and 70+ on mobile before i added the Ads đ
Factwide is my website, you can test its pagespeed to verify my claims.
Before I added Google Ads, my pagespeed was incredibly close to 90+, flunctuating between 85-90 then on Mobile was just a measly 65-75
Not too bad for now. How did I accomplish it.
1. Bulk Optimize your images with EWWW Image optimizer.
2. Use the regenerate thumbnail plugin to regenerate your thumbnails so that they can fit properly in the blocks.
CSS Minification made easy.
3. Go to GTMetrix and Analyse your URL.
4. You should see a Minify CSS followed by a percentage. Click on it to see more of the recommendation.
5. You will see your theme’s style.css in my case it was /…/Newspaper/style.css?ver=6.6
6. Click on see optimized version. It will open in a new tab with your CSS minified.
7. You select all ( Ctrl+A) and Copy (ctrl+C) then go to your theme editor (ie Appearance> Editor) in WordPress. then your style.css, you select all again and Paste (Ctrl+V).
That is it!.
This is just my way of giving back to everyone here that finds time to answer my silly questions and help me out in their little ways. Tagdiv support team, you guys rock, and Chris S as well.
Oh, and my site, Factwide, is proudly Tagdiv Newspaper!.
Hello,
Please try to disable all your plugins except visual composer, clear your cache and purge cdn files if you use it and check the images again. It could be a plugin conflict. You can also try to regenerate your thumbnails (you can use the force regenerate plugin) and make sure you have thumbnails selected from here: http://screencast.com/t/6NN40uR4n1
Let us know if the problem is still there afterwards.
Thank you!
Hello,
Our theme uses the wordpress search and the wordpress thumbnail as well just styled different. If the WP thumbnail size is changed then issues such as these might occur.
Please revert your wordpress thumbnail back to it’s default size: 150×150 http://screencast.com/t/bTrPAicv and then regenerate your thumbnails.
Thank you.
Hello,
I have checked your website and everything seems to be in order(apart from a few images in the big grid. try to upload bigger images or use the thumbnail upscale plugin together with force regenerate). I have not found any errors or content shifting. Maybe you fixed it in the meantime? It could be a plugin conflict. If the problem reappears please try to disable all your plugins except visual composer, clear your cache and purge cdn files if you use it.
Let us know if the problem reappears.
Thanks.
Hello hcassin,
Please try to disable all the active plugins, except Visual Composer, clear all your caches, purge all CDN files if you use and try it again. Also, you should try to regenerate all your images with Thumbnail regeneration plugin and test it again. After these changes, if your problem is still there, please provide you URL website so can I inspect it closer. Also, please mention from what version you did the update. I need to know this so I can be able to provide a more accurate response.
Hope this helps and let us know how it goes!
Thank you for the message!
Hello,
I have changed image sizes, or corrected them for products and regenerated the thumbnails but it’s still displaying products with massive height images as well, massive.
So the height:auto is not working but if I set it to height:200px as below:
.woocommerce ul.products li.product a img {
height: 200px;
}
It works… but it distorts the image.
If you can please help me to set thumbnail to max 200px and the bit of css that will help prevent it distorting.
Thank you in advance
First of all you need to fix all your site issues. https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=UPSCToday.com
-On newspaper theme panel go to blocks and select what blocks will you use in your site design.
-Go to plugins and install force and regenerate thumbnails. Activate plugin and run it. (may can take a while, depending your images quantity ).
-Before finish you have now all your images cropped correctly.
-install some cache plugin like wp cache, config an run it.
-Install and activate Tagdiv booster and.
Now your site it’s fast like a bullet.
Note: you site upsctoday has a lot of Js an Css files on every loading charge, you need to read documentation to setup tag div speed booster and send all these files to the footer in order to set your site blazing fast
Hi,
Yes I see that these files are external fb files unfortunately I cannot provide a solution for this, also the theme like button comes from facebook.
For images try a plugin like Smush it – https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-smushit/
Or add the following code at the end of the functions.php file:
add_filter( 'jpeg_quality', create_function('', 'return 50;' ) );
It will compress all future added images to 50%, but you have to regenerate the thumbs for the images that were already uploaded, you can doit using the Force Regenerate plugin – https://wordpress.org/plugins/force-regenerate-thumbnails/
Regarding the speed booster plugin I have provided above a solution so it will work with all the plugins or you can check if it works only with tested plugins active:
To always enable speed booster remove or comment this code â http://screencast.com/t/RZLIOPUNdqh
Please note that Speed Booster is an optional plugin so you can disable it if you don’t want to use it and search for an alternative.
I also suggest to not use many plugins as your pagespeed will be affected.
Thanks!
Good morning bogdan… thank you for your reply… I used regenerate thumbnail and now work properly…
Thanks
