- NewspaperUsing the theme with existing content
Hello there, I purchased both Newsmag and later on Newspaper. Initially, I used Newsmag. The theme is great, however, I was not very happy because there are always lines created in the theme whenever I want to create layout by myself using visual composer and its add-ons. I changed it to Newspaper and here are problems that need to be fixed:
1. The article thumbnails need to be recreated. I used Force Regenerate Thumbnails. I have more than 5000 images hosted and whenever i run the plugin, it always stop at around 200 processed images. I know that we can run this plugin on a single or several images, but I dont want to go through post-by-post and find which articles are already used images. Any other way to speed up this process?
2. Regarding big slide: I have two issues:
a. Not like Newsmag, I can not set category filter to “Featured” with Sort Order is set as “Random Posts”. The big slide will be disappeared with this combination;
b. I have many images with white background, and again, whenever it displayed in a slider, then the arrow navigation will not be visible because the background of the image is white. Please fix this and how to make the slider images just like Newsmag. I know that you put color background to keep the post title visible. But without gradien effect, the arrow of left and right navigation would not be visible.
3. Regarding post template, many articles published in the previous theme (Newsmag) are using full post featured iamge position which is not avialbale in the Newspaper theme. Whenever I changed to Newspaper, the article would not visible until I change the post template. Any other way to make this process simple and efficient? I hv already created many articles.
4. My speed test with google using this theme is zero. How come?
Thanks

Hi
I have the same issue but only when i use the block “Slide”. For all other blocks, images are perfect. I did use Regenerate my thumbnails and it succeeded for all 1100 images of my website. Nevertheless, for “Slide”, it does not look good at all…
Hi,
Unfortunately Newsmag theme was initially designed at this width – 1021px – with an fixed grid layout, responsive as it is fluid and style for desktop/tables/mobile screens. So changing the width would not be easy as it needs changing the width value for all elements on pages and for this you would need custom work. Also on pages you can use full width row to display your add your banner/ad – http://screencast.com/t/0c0sCetT
If you have basic css/html experience and you want to do this for post pages please check this topic, but you may need additional customziations – https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/728-x-90px-ads-in-article-inline-ads/#post-43914
I’m not sure what you want to do with thumbnails, you can try to add on your page only blocks that use the same size for thumbnails – you can see here thumbs size on blocks to make an idea – http://screencast.com/t/pgn9npc915B
Also if you want to change the thumb size for a block/module here you can find the code – http://screencast.com/t/Pvy1eMnun if you make any change here please regenerate thumbnails using – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-fix-strange-thumbnails/ Please note that if you create a new thumb there you have to change it also in the module file, for example – http://screencast.com/t/Ns1kn4ECxVNk
Thanks!

@nf_prt Starting with the next version of the newspaper theme ( newspaper 5 ) the theme will have panel thumbs option section (similar to the one that is already available in newsmag theme, that if you are using it) from which you can decide which modules you want to sue and disable the thumbs that you don’t need. Then regenerate thumbnails with a plugin like force regenerate thumbs or a similar one you can delete all thumbs and generate only those needed.
Great news Lucian, that is neat, thanks!
Hi,
Thanks @Chirs,@nf_prt!
@LFLizmark Regarding your first issue with images not displaying please provide your site’s url or admin credentials so we can have a closer look as I’m not sure what your issue could be if regenerating thumbnails wasn’t helping, you could also try to empty all caches and test without any plugins active, leave just the Visual Composer plugin active.
If you still can’t manage to find the reason for this please use our email address and send us a message at contact@tagdiv.com and we will get back to you as soon as possible with an answer. Include a link to this tread into your message so we can know who you are.
For organizing your images I suggest you follow Chris’s advises and try to find a plugin that can help you.

Hi,
If your featured image is larger 745x483 please regenerate your thumbnails to fix it – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-fix-strange-thumbnails/
If you use a smaller image, please note that WordPress doesn’t enlarge images and you will need to use plugin like Thumbnail Upscale to enlarge thumbnails: https://wordpress.org/plugins/thumbnail-upscale/ For upscale use a combination of plugins Thumbnail Upscale + Force Regenerate.
Thanks!
I don’t know a lot about Joomla but it doesn’t matter much which is superior, matters which one lets you make something superior. There’s more than the car, there’s also the driver and that’s why you are here trying to learn how to drive wordpress. I’m not defending wordpress over joomla, I just don’t want to say that something is worst when in reality I don’t even know it that well.
About images and thumbnails, yes they can get messy. If you don’t want image resizing (thumb generation) just go to options and set the sizes of thumbnails to 0x0 (zero), voilá, no more image generation. This has the downside of making your visitors download the original images all the time, even if all they are seeing is a thumbnail of them. Making thumbnails will create an image of 2KB to show a 100×65 thumbnail but people are free to serve a 70KB 700×357 image that will be displayed 100×65 anyway, downsized only pixel-wise and not KB-wise.
One thing though: You’ll see 3 thumbnail sizes in WP options but that doesn’t mean that your WP makes only 3 thumb regens, if some plugin or theme registers a new size, that new size will be created and you won’t see it in the options. Woocommerce “installs” 3 thumb sizes regenerations for example, and bam! suddenly you have 10000+ images in your media folder because every upload will be multiplied 6 or more times!
In that regard, this theme could get a bit of optimization. This theme is very beautiful but has lots of blocks, sliders, galleries and what not. So this theme registers a boatload of thumb sizes regens to fit all those blocks. After a while I figured out which blocks and sliders I prefer to use and those I don’t and so I commented out all those thumb regens I don’t use. This should be done, if possible, before running a plugin like thumbnail regeneration or all thumb sizes registered will be regenerated.
PS: support is always answering questions at the forum (during work time ofc, shown top right) but you can try e-mail, they are quick to respond, I wasn’t even their client yet and they answered pretty quick.

First of all, I have to give you the thanks, Chris. I installed the plugin Regenerate Thumbnails. It didn’t work, but I need to tell you that you are the first person that give me an advise about WordPress and I really appreciate that.
I come from the HTML hand code, Dreamweaver, graphic design and Joomla platforms and those are other worlds. All of this series of problems that I have with WordPress is solved by just one marvelous and free component in Joomla, which I repeat is far superior than WordPress. But I know that as this is the first time that I am trying to use this platform, I have a long way to run and to learn and people like you are a real blessing from God. Again, thanks so much for your answer. I’ve seen in this forum, which I started checking today because of this problem, and I saw that you have helped many people here. And you don’t do that because of you, but because the grace that God put into you. Be so much blessed you and your family.
My email is: info@lfstudio.com and my website is LFStudio.com I will try to continue looking for the solution to this situation.
Thanks, again.
You need to regenerate thumbnails for your site once theme is installed to generate all the various sizes for the blocks/modules. You should not use the demo data for a live or real website, only for testing or client demo (speaking as a 20 year webdev myself).
You can of course simply upload images via FTP if you don’t plan to use them as ‘featured’ images — for ‘featured’ images you generally need to upload those via the media manager or use a third party solution/plugin (e.g., bulk uploader to media manager).
Or combo of FTP upload with plugin to move to media manager, e.g.,
http://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/bulk-upload-files-to-wordpress-media-library-using-ftp/
For questions about how to use WORDPRESS — which is not part of the theme — you should of course check the millions of pages of help on the web via Google, and of course the WordPress CODEX .. often you can do searches like “image upload wordpress codex” to find help quickly.
You can change the default upload directory, and you can turn off the upload by /month/day/ options easily.
Obviously you should expect the TagDiv support folk to educate you on how the basics of WordPress actually works — only elements related to using the theme. Image uploading is part of WordPress and not a “theme” function, per se.
I don’t work here – so just some feedback while you wait for official reply 🙂
Hi!
It seemed that someone had been uploading lots of images and there were not enough web space ^^U
However, I made a clean install and regenerate thumbnails in order to clean up the mess with thousands (4815!) of useless images. Everything works perfectly since then.
I appreciate so much your help 🙂
Regards!
Lara.
Hi,
Your image width must be at least 745x483 as you can see on our demo – http://screencast.com/t/Ohpp7LDCNPwx to fill the whole container. If your featured image is smaller, please note that WordPress doesn’t enlarge images and you will need to use plugin like Thumbnail Upscale to enlarge thumbnails: https://wordpress.org/plugins/thumbnail-upscale/ For upscale use a combination of plugins Thumbnail Upscale + Force Regenerate.
Or you can enlarge it via custom css in Theme Panel > Custom Css: http://screencast.com/t/JfylXNZ08G
.td_block_big_grid .td-big-grid-post-0 .entry-thumb {
width: 100%;
}
Thanks!
Hi,
The size of the container is larger than the image – http://screencast.com/t/CeEQOp6Na – http://screencast.com/t/gxGGSqydb5k
Wordpress doesn’t have an upscale function so a solution may be to upload larger images or use a combination of plugins to upscale the images – https://wordpress.org/plugins/thumbnail-upscale/ – https://wordpress.org/plugins/force-regenerate-thumbnails/
Thank you!
Hi,
I am trying to install the “Big Slide” in the home page, but the 3 articles next to the main one are separated. So it is looking ugly.
I have regenerated thumbnails to create the thumbs for the slider, using this guide for that: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-fix-strange-thumbnails/ but it is still not working.
my site is lifeder.com
Hi,
@SAPeople You have to add it to the loop-single file and depending of the post template you’re using this are the loop single files, located in the root of the theme files: http://screencast.com/t/aMCuW2E0p an you can find the opening body tag in the header file: http://screencast.com/t/x1fUghKMIOS or the closing one in the footer file: http://screencast.com/t/EqW45ZKwc
That’s the old documentation, you can find the categories customization documentation here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/customize-the-categories/
Please open a new topic for each of your problem here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/forum/newspaper/
@albrub
This is how i see your slider now: http://screencast.com/t/otlS1jLrjnn you need to regenerate thumbnails to create the thumbs for the slider, use this guide for that: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-fix-strange-thumbnails/
Let us know how it goes and also please make a new tread here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/forum/newspaper/
Thanks
Hi. I just followed the instructions to regenerate my existing thumbnails…over 8,000…and it’s 100% complete BUT I notice now that the only thumbs that show on the site are those for posts where I had selected ‘Featured Image’. It will take a long time to go through thousands of posts. Is there anyway to make the theme select its own featured thumb from a post (often there’s just one picture so it’s obvious)? (Someone else did ask this…but their question was misunderstood and not answered.)
Thank you!
Hi,
The featured image is created from the youtube/vimeo video and it is downloaded by the theme, but it seems that for some videos it can’t download the big thumb image. Also unfortunately WordPress doesn’t enlarge images so you will need to use plugin like Thumbnail Upscale to enlarge thumbnails: https://wordpress.org/plugins/thumbnail-upscale/ For upscale use a combination of plugins Thumbnail Upscale + Force Regenerate.
You can also use css code to enlarge big thumb from Big Slider – http://screencast.com/t/3GwTJeDG
.td_block_big_grid .td-big-grid-post-0 .entry-thumb {
width: 100%;
}
.td_block_big_grid .td-big-grid-post-0 .thumb-wrap {
height: 100%;
}
Thanks!
I don’t solve yet my problem with sidebar’s widgets. I will continue to search.
I need “block settings” because I have a problem with pictures. But I hope I can resolve it without.
I used the plugins “force regenerate thumbnails” and “reg. thumbnails”.
You can see here, in the homepage, the thumbnails are goods : http://www.newlook.francelysee.com. I want the same for all the website.
But here, in a category page, the thumbnails are not modify by “reg thumbnails”, and they are not good : http://www.newlook.francelysee.com/?cat=62
What can I do to have the thumbnails as the homepage, for all the website ?
Thank you
Hi,
Please try to regenerate your thumbnails using this – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-fix-strange-thumbnails/
If your featured images are smaller, you will need to use plugin like Thumbnail Upscale to enlarge thumbnails: https://wordpress.org/plugins/thumbnail-upscale/ like already Christopher suggested. For upscale use a combination of plugins Thumbnail Upscale + Force Regenerate.
Thanks!
Did you try to ‘regenerate’ your thumbnails ? This is often necessary when some elements of a theme change markedly and some modules/sizes change. Your site may have had temporary versions of the new sizes, and they no longer exist due to how your files are stored (e.g., CDN, Jetpack, etc.).
Try the “regenerate thumbnails” plugin. If your images need to be make larger, not supported by WP, add the “thumbnail upscale” plugin first; then run the regen plugin. (Both are free plugins, and essentials.)
If you’re using Photon from Jetpack this is common issue with theme updates and you need to refresh that. Theme has no control over how your images stored on Jetpack or other CDN cloud systems.
Hi,
You can copy featured image code from post template 3 and paste it above the content div: http://screencast.com/t/syYCwVBD – http://screencast.com/t/m10ysJeygcSt and then regenerate thumbnails – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-fix-strange-thumbnails/
Thanks!
Thanks Chris but this is happening on new posts. I think the answer is to change the aspect ratio of the images in that section and then maybe regenerate, otherwise it would keep happening?
Thanks,
Toby
You need to “regenerate” your thumbnails to fit the sizes for this theme … try the “force regenerate” or “regenerate thumbnails” plugin.
This used to be in theme docs, not sure why that might not be.
I changed the variable in the following line, after regenerate thumbnails but has had no effect . http://i.imgur.com/CXAMMVN.png
Delete Module12 in td_api_thumb::add(‘td_640x0’ http://i.imgur.com/INdCqc5.png
Hi,
When you enable thumbs on blocks – http://screencast.com/t/ZyXAXo8EhCoY please make sure that you regenerate thumbnails using – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-fix-strange-thumbnails/
Also if your featured images are smaller than thumb container on blocks/modules you will need to use plugin like Thumbnail Upscale to enlarge thumbnails: https://wordpress.org/plugins/thumbnail-upscale/ as WordPress doesn’t enlarge images. For upscale use a combination of plugins Thumbnail Upscale + Force Regenerate.
Thanks!
Hi,
On your blog you display articles using module 12 so if you want to change the thumbnail size here you can find it – http://screencast.com/t/a7aNQlc0U and then you have to regenerate you thumbnails using this – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-fix-strange-thumbnails/
Please note that changing that size will also affect thumbs from: 'Default post template', 'Post style 2', 'Module 12, 13, 15', 'Smart list style 1, 2' like you can see also in the screenshot.
If you want to change only the module to display articles on your Blog you can set it from Template Settings – http://screencast.com/t/BhIVl93VPbd
Please provide more details about what you are trying to do, if this is not what you mean.
Thanks!
