Hi,
After the 9.7 update the child theme is limited to just a few files. This is a consequence of the recent modifications to the location of theme files, due to Envato requirements. There is an article about it here – https://tagdiv.com/updating-the-core-of-tagdiv-themes/
So now the post template files are in the composer – http://prntscr.com/ng3e26 You could edit them there, but the modification will have to made again after each update. Files from plugins can’t be modified in a child theme.
Maybe there is a different way of adding the code you mention, for example if it can be added by shortcode, you could add a column text in the cloud post template and enter the shortcode in it.
Thanks
Hi,
Most of the theme files were moved into the tagdiv composer plugin as per the requirements of envato: https://help.author.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000472383-WordPress-Theme-Requirements.
We wrote an article on the subject here: https://tagdiv.com/updating-the-core-of-tagdiv-themes/
Moving forward with such requirements, a child theme will only work with functions.php, and style.css as there are very few files left in the main theme as envato requires all functionality to be added through plugins.
Please check this topic -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/important-new-update-newspaper-9-7/
Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for understanding.
Well, maybe envato’s terms have these requirements. But these requirements are absolutely opposite to what WordPress says for changes in theme files using a child theme. This is absurd in my opinion. Even so, you could create a function so we’re able to create overrides for the tagdiv composer plugin. There are plenty of plugins to offer that.
Edit: Reading more carefully in Envato’s requirements they don’t say anywhere to remove every override capability https://help.author.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000480723#h_5966589781211522283728890. Unless I’m mistaken. They say:
If a child theme is provided with the theme, it must:
- Load the parent stylesheet using wp_enqueue_style() instead of @import.
- Consist of style.css, functions.php and screenshot.png files at a minimum.
- Append “Child” to the theme name so it can be identified as a child theme.
- Include files within the child theme directory using get_stylesheet_directory().
- Reference the parent theme via Template: parameter in the style.css header
- The child theme will be held to the same standards and best practices as the parent theme. For more information on Child Theme development, refer to WordPress Codex article.
Hi,
It isn’t safe to modify main files, one of the reasons is that the modifications will be lost when the theme and theme plugins are updated, so they will have to be made again.

If you are looking for the mobile theme files they are now in the composer

I don’t have the time to dive into the Envato requirements. But this is the first time in 10 years working with WordPress that I have to deal with such a problem. Theme template files should be located in the theme folder. If they really have to be moved into a plugin, provide a solution for overwriting them. However, I’ve never seen this before. So, maybe you should revise the theme structure. Anyway, it is a kick in the teeth for all paying customers. What about customers who spent a lot of money for customization? Everything is lost or has to be moved to the plugin folder which is not update-safe. So, maintenance costs will increase significantly.
Hi,
Please make sure that all the settings are like in our requirements, please follow the guide carefully
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/
and please increase all requirements that are lower, and follow all steps.
Please make sure that you do not have a plugin conflict, please deactivate all non theme plugins, also if you are using child theme or cache plugin, please deactivate them, clear all cache and try again.
Thank you!
Hi MKJ,
Please notice that for each up theme update you need to make a full backup to your database to avoid losing all of your data. Regarding on child theme, please notice that’s the consequence of moving the theme core files.

The update to 9.7 was a major disapointment. Our site was broken due to deactivated plugins. The wp-admin login url didn’t work anymore. So far so bad. The most ennoying problem, however, was the fact that many post templates were moved to the td-composer plugin folder. Many forum users reported problems, since the modified files in the child theme weren’t used anymore. While I understand that you had to do this due to Envato requirements, why didn’t you post a solution. Perhaps you did, but I couldn’t find any. Even plugin files can be overwritten. But you have to give us some information, since there is no standard procedure for this. Newspaper is a premium theme. It is absolutely not acceptable that you leave us out in the cold.
Hi,
I can’t seem to be able to access the website, there is a 500 error currently. Should be no problem if you follow the guide – https://tagdiv.com/updating-the-core-of-tagdiv-themes/
Also the most reliable method to update the theme is by FTP – https://tagdiv.com/update-newspaper-theme/
In some cases 500 errors were caused by insufficient memory, we recommend a value of 256M if possible. Try increasing it or contact the hosting provider and provide them with this guide – https://tagdiv.com/newspaper-theme-requirements/
If you already tried this, please send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide FTP or cPanel as well as admin login. We will take a look. Include a link to this topic in the email. Let us know.
Thanks
Hi,
So this happens only when you activate the composer, are there any errors? In some cases such issues are caused by insufficient resources – https://tagdiv.com/newspaper-theme-requirements/
Please follow the guide carefully and increase the needed parameters, also activate the necessary PHP modules if needed. The hosting provider should be able to do this for you or at least provide some assistance.
In case the problem remains please send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide admin login, also cPanel will be helpful. Include a link to this topic in the email. Let us know.
Thanks
Hi,
I can’t say I know a lot in this matter, but those are quite a lot of requirements to be met in order to create a fully compatible website with the WCAG rules. The Newspaper theme would not be compliant with those specifications, even with a lot of modifications (some may not be even possible) and work, this is not the way to go about it.
If this the target, to create a fully compliant website, maybe consider recommending your client a theme that is built with these guidelines in mind. That would be a solution. I found this topic mentioning some examples

Let me know if you have more questions.

Hi,
Here is a quick fix for wp-admin you need to go in wp-content/themes/Newspaper/includes/external/class-tgm-plugin-activation.php -> https://www.screencast.com/t/uw71nVqUE go on line 1975 and replace this line of code
if ( class_exists( 'td_theme_plugins_setup' ) ) {
with this one
if ( class_exists( 'td_theme_plugins_setup',false ) ) {
-> https://www.screencast.com/t/yUqRefrL
Also please check the theme requirements – https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/
and please increase all requirements that are lower, and follow all steps.
Hope this will solve the problem!
Thanks!
Hi,
New the single_template_1.php can be found in wp-content/plugins/td-composer/legacy/Newspaper/parts/single/single_template_1.php -> https://www.screencast.com/t/Fu7JfEo6ctB
Unfortunately these files can not longer be set in child theme.
Most of the theme files were moved into the tagdiv composer plugin as per the requirements of envato: https://help.author.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000472383-WordPress-Theme-Requirements.

Hi,
There are a few things you could check. First please follow the theme requirements guide carefully – https://tagdiv.com/newspaper-theme-requirements/
In some cases the wp-memory is exhausted because it is set too low, so when activating plugins there may be such a problem like the one you are describing. We recommend a value of 256M if possible, try to increase it or ask the hosting provider to do it for you. Check the other parameters from the guide as well.
We also recommend that you use PHP versions 7, 7.1 or 7.2 if possible, using old PHP versions can create problems.
In case the issue remains we could take a look. Send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide admin login, also cPanel will be helpful. Include a link to this topic in the email.
Let us know.
Thanks

Hi,
Unfortunately in Newspaper v9.7 the td-api-plugin will not longer work, sorry! you can achieve the modules that you made with that api using the flex blocks and you can save the element in a shortcode to can use it later in orders pages -> https://www.screencast.com/t/a2ikt4tq

Hello!
I just bought this theme a couple of days ago. I’ve come across a few bugs (or user error) that I could use some help resolving:
1) The composer won’t load for me. I am on a dedicated server and it appears all of the requirements have been met.
2) On Firefox, the website is loading http instead of https – this works fine on Chrome.
3) On Firefox, when I use the log in button in the top bar, after putting in the correct user name and password it jumps back to the homepage but I’m not signed in.
It doesn’t appear this forum has a ‘secret’ section to enter my WP admin and Cpanel login details – where should I enter those?
The last question is from the article “Updating the Word for Envato WordPress Requirements” I didn’t understand the following a bit – if I make changes in the files located along the path \ plugins \ td-composer \ legacy \ Newspaper \ includes, they will to roll back when updating a theme?
Hi,
All changes can be found in our changelog on themeforest -> https://www.screencast.com/t/38Pb2sRyN ->https://themeforest.net/item/newspaper/5489609?s_rank=1
Yes, the tagDiv Composer is a page and template builder not a post editor, you can make templates for post wit it but you can not edit the post content.

Hi,
Please check our documentation for How to Update the Newspaper Theme for WordPress ->
https://tagdiv.com/update-newspaper-theme/
We recommend to make the update via FTP.

Hi Antoon,
I’m sorry about that but please notice that our new latest update works as expected and sohuld not break your website, sorry! The Newspaper theme update brings a change for the theme implementation. When you’ll be updating to the Newspaper 9.7.1 version, you’ll need to activate the tagDiv Composer to keep the Newspaper theme functionality you’ve previously used. Otherwise, you will have basic WordPress functionality, complying with Envato WordPress Requirements – https://help.author.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000472383-WordPress-Theme-Requirements
Please read this article we wrote on the new update https://tagdiv.com/updating-the-core-of-tagdiv-themes/ to learn what it changes and what you must do in order to keep the functionality intact.
Also, please provide more details about your problems encountered so we can identify them and also, so we can provide a more accurate response/code.
Thank you for understanding!
