I’m using the News Hub Pro pre-built theme from Newspaper by tagDiv. I’m trying to add a sidebar to my pages and category pages, but I can’t get it to appear.
I’ve set the page layout in the Theme Panel to a layout with sidebar (not Full Width), and I can see the widget area for the sidebar in the TagDiv Composer. However, the sidebar still doesn’t show on the front end.
I also tried activating and deactivating Smart Sidebar, but it didn’t help.
My goal is to place ads in this sidebar, but it doesn’t display or allow ads to be added directly from the Theme Control Panel.
Could you please explain the correct way to enable and display a sidebar in News Hub Pro, so that I can use it for ads?

Thanks for the reply. I’m actually already aware of those features you mentioned. What I was trying to get at is that I need help implementing them properly on my site. I had sent an email a while back asking for guidance and a quote for services, so I’ll follow up on that email.
That aside, I still feel like the theme is missing a few modern features or maybe I’m just not seeing them?
Dark mode is one. I noticed one of the other themes switches to dark mode automatically based on the visitor’s system settings (like on Mac), which is great. This would be a nice feature.
There’s also no Table of Contents block that I can find, which is kind of expected nowadays — especially for long-form content and SEO.
Another thing: I’d love to create styled content boxes (like quote blocks, info boxes, tips, etc.). There’s no easy way to do this in the Newspaper theme. If there’s a built-in way to create that inside Composer without extra CSS, I haven’t found it yet.
Other features I’ve seen in newer themes like JNews and Foxiz that seem missing:
Text-to-speech for articles
GIF thumbnails that actually animate
Smart sticky nav or TOC sidebar
Font size/accessibility toggles
Reusable block templates inside Composer
More lightweight mobile-first optimization
I still really like using Newspaper, but it’s starting to feel a bit behind compared to what other newer themes are doing. Would love to know if any of this is on the roadmap.

it is a couple of days that I’m trying to change some theme’s setting from Theme panel (disable smart sidebar, change post and category templates). When I change them and click save, it seames that it is all right. Then when I recharge the page it is all set as was before…

Hi Vunt, there is a misunderstanding the option you have selected is not for sticky header, is for sticky column used for sidebars – https://forum.tagdiv.com/smart-sidebar-2/
If you want to make the header row sticky please use this option from the row – https://i.imgur.com/PHfVqNU.png also you can create a different sicky header if you want by using the option from the website manager – https://i.imgur.com/XjY3oMx.png

Just make sure that there s nothing interfering with the theme template – https://forum.tagdiv.com/smart-sidebar-2/ what You can do is to make a test with a different single post template and see if the problem is the same, if not, then the situation is related to the settings form the single post template and it should be resolved using tagDiv Composer.

Important – delaying Javascript will make your ads load after any movement on the page so if you just reload the page they will not be loaded as soon as you move anything on the page it will load them immediately. For me this isn’t a problem.

Important – if you are self hosting your site on nginx you can enable this https://github.com/SatelliteWP/rocket-nginx – this enables Nginx to serve directly previously cached files without calling WordPress or any PHP
Important – if you are self hosting your site on nginx you can enable FastCGI and Redis (use redis cache plugin and nginx helper). When it comes to FastCGI MAKE SURE TO ENABLE SEPARATE CACHE FOR MOBILE AND DESKTOP OTHERWISE IT WILL WORK BADLY!
Important – if you have a large installation and you notice that your queries become slow (e.g. search page takes a lot of time to load or non-cached pages load for more than 1-2 seconds) you can buy Scalability Pro and Super Speedy Search from here https://www.superspeedyplugins.com/shop/ for me this plugins changed the way the theme worked immensely. My non-cached pages loading time dropped form 10 seconds down to 1-2 seconds.
Important – WPRocket offers a plugin that converts all your images to webp format and this is also crucial for your page speed. Their plugin works well for my site.

When you publish a new blog post you can choose styles in the bottom under the text.
When I first installed the newspaper theme I could choose any of them and the sidebar (not the smart one) would display globally showing an ad and social media etc.
Now I can ONLY choose the default one – otherwise the side bar doesnt show anything (it’s just empty!)
How can I fix this?

If you have a backup, you can revert the changes you made.
I can’t see any other sidebar in your screenshots, so I said I’m not sure exactly what you need to achieve.

If you using a single post template from Cloud Library then you need edit with tagDiv Composer,

or if you have a Standard Post Template, a sidebar can be created only with widgets, and in this way, you can assign a different sidebar on each post.

I recommend using the single post template, and there you can achieve that. There is an issue with the sticky sidebar for posts that use standard template, which will be fixed in the next update.
For standard templates you can enable the sticky sidebar from Newspaper -> Theme Panel -> Template Settings -> Smart Sidebar

Recently we discovered that the smart sidebar does not work on posts created using template #8 from the standard package

Everything is fine on the other templates; and the smart sidebar is enabled in the global settings.
