As you know, the Newspaper theme is -by its very name- a newspaper/magazine theme. Even though the developers sometimes seem to treat it as an e-commerce or product showcase theme, its core should be journalism and publishing (I felt the need to repeat this since it seems overlooked).
Here are some features I still don’t see in the theme or its companion plugins:
– Dark Mode
– Advanced Author Dashboard (with collective read/view stats for writers)
– Polls and rating system
– Author following
– More advanced front-end writing experience
– Content listing / recommendation / curation system
These are the kinds of features that should be built into a theme we purchase called Newspaper. Will there be any dedicated development in this direction, or should we expect updates to continue focusing on things like Real Estate or Protein Powder websites?

Calin, good afternoon. I updated PHP and everything went well. However, I received an email from an unknown person informing me that info.php was exposed, containing all the information and paths about our website. How should I hide this information to prevent data from becoming vulnerable?
Regarding the backup – I used the video method, and our website experienced significant instability because it generated a huge backup file on our server. Copying the website’s main folder to our machine – if something goes wrong, how can I recover all our data? Thank you very much.

I am setting up a second website and have purchased a second licence key for Newspaper.
I have added the second licence (ending 7e0) to my tagDiv account here which you should be able to verify.
However, the new licence key doesn’t appear on the “My license” page in WordPress, despite refreshing and waiting some time for it to update, only the existing key assigned to another site.
I also don’t have an “Activate theme” listed in the sidebar on WordPress as suggested in https://tagdiv.com/how-to-activate-the-newspaper-theme/.
I don’t appear to have the option to add this key to WordPress anywhere and therefore I cannot add my new license to the website (the new website domain is ka*od.co.uk).
How do I get this licence (ending 7e0) to appear on the new website ka*od.co.uk? Or can you activate it for me?

After enabling CSP on my site, the browser shows this error:
Content Security Policy blocks the use of ‘eval’ in JavaScript.
It looks like td-composer or some Newspaper JS files are still using eval() or new Function(). To make the site work, I would need to add ‘unsafe-eval’ in the CSP header, but this is not secure.
Can you please confirm if there is an update or patch that removes the dependency on eval() in the Newspaper theme / tagDiv Composer plugin?
I am currently using:
• Newspaper theme version: [insert version]
• tagDiv Composer version: [insert version]
I would like to know if there is a safer solution than enabling ‘unsafe-eval’ in CSP.

One question: The team that maintains our active server has prepared a new machine with an updated operating system to host our entire website again. First, they’ll create a backup plan and transfer all data to this new machine. Could this change drastically reduce our Google rankings?

These are our results via Google PageSpeed - hoping the above actions will improve. I think the latest Google updates (core updates) have disrupted the rankings – which will be gradually adjusted.

I’m using a Custom Post Type “Blank – Custom Post Type” for event calendar entries. I created a new layout/template for this CPT where I changed:
Layout and styling of inner row using Custom Fields
Color scheme and font styles
Overall template appearance
I set the new template as global for all posts of this CPT. Unfortunately, there’s an inconsistency issue – some posts use the new template, while others still use the old one.
Examples:

What I’ve already tried:
Cleared WordPress and browser cache
Verified all posts are the same CPT
Confirmed the template is set as global
The issue affects existing posts created before the template change. New posts correctly use the new layout.
Question: How can I force the global CPT template to apply to all existing posts? Is there a way to bulk update template metadata without manually editing each post?

We know about that issue. It’s fixed in the coming theme update. It’s related to the subscription plugin.
A quickfix is to enable the lockers for the events, please check in the theme panel and you should see your events post type and enable the locker for them here https://prnt.sc/2vRjAnM-IliL This just enables the option to use lockers for the events, you don’t have to actually set lockers for them, just enable that option.

So normally that could be done but it takes a bit of work if there are many authors. If each author would use their own locker and plans, then on each of their plans you can set a list of their own https://prnt.sc/ULvbkObmrcRo Each list will contain the emails of the subscribers that subscribed to the plans of a respective author.
Maybe it could be done with customization of the plugin, but if it requires modifications to the plugin files directly, then the modifications will have to be remade each time the plugin is updated. We don’t however have plans on modifying the plugin soon on our side, maybe only minor fixes.

I had not been working on WordPress for a while, and during that time, everything was deleted. Yesterday, I started rebuilding my website from scratch.
The issue I am facing is that my license key is still assigned to multiple domains I previously used. However, my current domain is still unassigned. I would like to unassign all the previous domains and assign the license key only to my current domain.
I noticed that the unassign option is showing availability on 30-09-2025, but I cannot wait until then. Could you please help me by unassigning or deleting all the old domains from my license so that I can update and assign it to my current one right away?

The tagDiv Mobile theme plugin is usually used for blocks because it has no options to customize it, which is what is making it faster.
If you want to have the same version as on desktop, then it will be better to use the responsive version or you can try the mobile page and reduce the elements from the page and optimize it for mobile – https://tagdiv.com/newspaper-10-3-7-update-brings-customizable-and-fast-mobile-pages/

Hi Calin, I was trying to edit the Table of Contents configuration, but I’m having some problems. For example, I tried to change the language for [Hide] and [Show], but the content didn’t change and some code started to appear below the TOC. Do I need to update something? I was using the Rank Math TOC, but I uninstalled this plugin and the problem continues.

Thanks. I know on the prior version of NM I went nuts on hacking things to remove any and all code, and unhook stuff. Didn’t do that this time and combined with loss of server side optimizations, sites really took a hit in Google. Trying to do damage control on that now.
Probably going to try wp-rocket.
Stuff like ThickBox.js is being loaded on post pages where never used, so really making a lot of fluff in page size and ttfb.
I really went nuts on the old versioh, subsetting font awesome, etc. — trying not to do that again as just a nightmare if any theme updates.

Ok, first thing is to make sure that you have everything updated, WordPress (version 6.8.2), Newspaper theme v12.7.1 and all plugins you are using.
Under Newspaper > My license, you should see something like this – https://i.imgur.com/1tSv4pM.png, but this will be displayed only if the theme is activated with a valid key, and this can be checked.

Yes, you understand it correctly (you’ll see those pages with the rest of the pages on your website), the pages made with the theme builder will not be affected when the theme and theme plugins are updated.

I am using the Newspaper theme and noticed that the featured image of each post is displayed as a background-image inside a <div> with the class tdb-featured-image-bg, instead of being rendered as an tag.
This approach makes it impossible to use the alt attribute, which is essential for:
– SEO, since Google does not properly index images used as backgrounds;
– Accessibility, as screen readers cannot interpret the image.
I would like to confirm with you:
1) Is this behavior the default of the theme, or is there any setting to display the featured image as an tag with the alt attribute?
2) If there is no setting, what would be the recommended way to implement this without losing compatibility in future updates (for example, using a child theme)?

So i can’t advise how it is used as it is a TagDiv creation…

The child theme is need only if you make changes in the theme files, but in this case the pages have been created with the theme builder tagDiv Composer, so when you’ll update the theme just make sure that all tagDiv plugins that you have activated now will also be updated and enabled after the theme upadtes (you can cehck the theme plugins under Newspaper > plugins).
