Testing latest update on staging site 9.7.4, core plugins are not updating and staying inactive.
When you go to update, reporting as successful, but when you go to reactivate, saying outdated, happening when both child theme and main theme active ( know child themes was an issue with previous update)

Hi,

Currently it works only with Soundcloud, there may be improvements made to this option over future updates. I can’t say at this moment what will happen exactly, remains to be seen.

Thanks

Hi,

The mobile theme page content cannot be created with the composer, if you want the content from desktop (created with the composer) to be displayed on mobile, deactivate the plugin.

The mobile theme is created to be fast on phones, it can’t display composer content and uses predefined templates.

After the latest theme update, the mobile theme can be disabled per page/post. So for example if you want a page to not use the mobile theme, it can be done in the page edit screen – http://prntscr.com/oh5gvm
This has been a much requested feature, it is now available. Also there have been some other improvements to the mobile theme in this update. Changelog can be seen at the bottom of this page – https://themeforest.net/item/newspaper/5489609

Thanks

Hi,

You can test with the Google structured data tool to see how Google sees the post
https://search.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool/u/0/
The theme already provides the necessary date published and date updated structured data for posts, the format being based on the timezone used in the WordPress general settings.

Using cloud templates for posts, a modified date can be displayed in the post page, there is an element created specifically for this – http://prntscr.com/oh4yce

But if you have added another updated date I can’t say what Google will choose to display.

Thanks

Hi,

We’ve tried to keep our documentation up to date for the child theme and for the rest of the theme functionality.
Since Newspaper v9.7 the theme functionality was moved in ta-composer and the child theme was working only with style.css and functions.php; but now in the last version ( Newspaper v9.7.4 ) the child theme is working again like before and the files from td-composer plugin can be set in the child theme -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/
We recommend to set the child theme via FTP, also if you are using the envato api, there can be a little delay until you’ll receive the available update.

Thank you for your understanding!

This ticket can be closed. I reinstalled an older version of the theme and all went back to normal. I’ll have to pause on any future updates as this one was a bit chaotic and the support wasn’t very useful unfortunately.

Hi there guys:

I have been trying your latest update and the new functions is the Mobile theme and I have a question. If I set the Front page Grid On with mi latest post, it appeared also on the latest articles. BUT this is not happening when navigating to any other category from the menu Just in the Front Page. Is there any way to solve this??

Thanks!!

Greetings,

Is there a way to simply modify the code so that when sorting related posts by category, the posts are sorted based on the “Primary” category instead of it just picking one at random? Or maybe this is a feature that could be implemented in a future update?

We did also encounter a serious issue during the theme update process. We followed the steps as listed: Change to other theme, delete old them, upload new theme, change back to new theme, and everything worked aside from widgets.

This process appears to have destroyed the widgets for the default sidebar and footer. Newspaper default, Footer 1, Footer 2, and Footer 3

Please find a way to allow updating the theme without losing all widget settings, as we have a lot of specific configurations in said widgets, and this will cost us a few more hours to clean up.

Hi Simon,

I was hoping for phone support because having a 24 hour response time was growing concerning given that this issue has already resulted in what will be a one week delay in our product launch. At the scale we operate, one week of delay/down time for even a single product is a significant financial loss.

I’ve updated our theme and followed all steps and documentation provided, and we now have single_template_2.php working as it was before migrating to the previous “new” theme version.

Thanks again for your help on this. I’m glad we were able to get it resolved.

I just want it noted that I’m still very disappointed that this issue happened at all, and it has seriously shaken our confidence in tagDiv. Allowing a theme update to launch with a loss of such basic functionality was a massive oversight, as was not properly warning customers that upgrading or installing the new theme would mean losing or breaking existing features and functionality.

I’m also upset that the solution now relies on obfuscated legacy resources, and that this functionality is not incorporated cleanly into the product. The ability for a site owner to modify post templates is the most basic level of functionality expected of any theme. I understand that tagDiv is trying to simplify things for less technical users, but please keep in mind that your product is being used by companies who have come to depend on it and develop entire product lines around it. Such failings not only damage their relationship with tagDiv but have real consequences.

Please pass this along to tagDiv leadership.

Thanks again for the support.

I was able to update everything. What problems are you having?

I just received an update for my Newspaper theme. Does this include an update for the WPBAKERY Visual Composer Plugin to version 6.0.5 or any new version. I am still using version 6.0.2 and I do not want any more issues, but we have to keep our plugins updated for security purposes. Please Advise ASAP!!!

I just also realized that the style of some quote is now off as well… If I don’t find a solution soon, I think I will just revert back to the 9.7.2 version of the theme as I didn’t have any issues with the theme for the last 4 years before the 2 latest updates.

Since the latest update the navigations no longer load on category pages. We removed the category template and deactivated all the plugins, but nothing fixes. We have to remain on Newspaper version 9.6, due to the amount of control we need with child templates.

After update to the newest version of Newspaper the first picture in the Big Grid 3 is not high enough. How can I set the height that the picture fits the whole box?

Hi Vlad,

I think we are getting there – the dates look better now as bold so that visitors can see it has been updated per example: https://searchgo.co/travel-to-egypt/.

Will this appear in the meta description as being updated when indexed – for example in search engines will it appear under the old date or under the updated date?

Thanks

Hi,
i had v9.7.3 and child theme from your package uploaded through ftp and it does not work.
So i updated theme version but child theme didn’t work.
I tried to zip the child theme file and to upload through wp admin panel and now it works.
I suggest you to provide to users child theme zipped and to update your documentation.

I registered the theme with api, why i did not see the available update?

Hi,

Unfortunately our theme do not have this option for comments, sorry! maybe this will be add in the coming update, meanwhile maybe you can use a plugin for comments that can do that, unfortunately I can not recommend one because we didn’t tested any plugins in this way.

Thank you for your understanding!

Hi,

So you deactivate all non theme plugins, clear all cache and the option for responsive version is still not working? please make sure that you made the update according to our documentation -> https://tagdiv.com/update-newspaper-theme/ and all theme plugins are updated, if you made all those steeps and the problem persist, you can send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide admin login, as well as cPanel or FTP if possible. We will take a look. Include a link to this topic in the email.

I also did a manual update now. Nothing changed and the error still exists, no matter if I use my own child-theme or the one provided with the theme. The error does not occur when using standard Newspaper theme. So there is definitely a bug in 9.7.4 with child-theme.

@Jaddy1219
and @Vlad-S Please let me know, when you found the reason for this and how to fix it.
