Hello, I’m testing the new 9.7.3 update on a staging site and when I try to update the plugins it gives a message “unauthorized.” Is it because the staging site url is different than the live site’s url?

If so, what actions do I need to take to update the plugins so I can fully test the staging site before going live?

Hello Tagdiv.

We bought your theme “Newspaper”, but we are experiencing some issues.

1. Post template issue

We are using the demo “City news” (import with no changes) on the single post pages, we want to check the different options for “post template”

We expect that when we change the “post template” setting

We expect to see this:

Instead we see this:

We have tried:
-Other server
-Different php versions (5.6 -> 7.2)
-New install of wp and theme
-New import of demo content for “city news”
-New import of demo content for the default white theme
-We even tried newsmag your sibling theme.

We have this issue for everything we tried.
Question: Do you know what is up here?

2. Gallery issue
We are trying to use: https://tagdiv.com/tagdiv-slide-gallery/
But it seems it does not work properly. Instead of the “Slide gallery” then we get a “grid gallery”. The Gutenberg editor block, does not give us similar options as from link: https://tagdiv.com/tagdiv-slide-gallery/ (http://take.ms/zRRjh) what we see is a grid: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LKrZiyj_bHCbrv5vxxHO1jGm1Cqnuc-h/view

There is no option to get the Slider instead of the grid, and we don’t find any other Gutenberg blocks where it was possible.

Question: Can you please help us to get the slider?

3. Problem with custom post type
Via the tutorial and documentation we used the plugin that was in the download package from the Newspaper to create a custom post type with custom taxonomies.

With that we expect to see:
A new custom posttype with two taxonomies, with same options at “post” have for the newspaper theme: http://take.ms/effsl (screenshot of “post” CPT) and the Gutenberg editor.

Instead we see:

Content not displaying properly after theme update – Visual Composer / Tagdiv. Previously, we only need to deactivate the Tagdiv plugin. This time, it is not working. Kindly advise.

The child theme functionality has been broken since the update of the core for the Envato WordPress requirements. Can you please fix this? You can search fo “child” in the comments in the link below to see that a number of us depend on child themes for customization. I have pasted an excerpt from those comments below, in which I was advised to contact support.

That doesn’t seem to be true, Catalin. Envato requires that the child theme “Consist of style.css, functions.php and screenshot.png files at a minimum” … but you’re not *disallowed* from including/supporting other files in the child theme.

Seriously, if you stop supporting child themes — where we can edit the single.php (or loop-single.php) file (for example), that decision will mark the day that Newspaper starts going downhill as a theme.

On https://help.author.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000480723 Envato references https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/advanced-topics/child-themes/ … which says, “any file you add to your child theme will overwrite the same file in the parent theme” … but with the current version of your theme, this doesn’t work. Adding (and tweaking) the theme’s header.php file to the child theme does nothing.

BECAUSE YOU BROKEN THE CHILD THEME FUNCTIONALITY.

Your statement that “Envato … requires all functionality to be added through plugins” is, to be direct, false. Stop lying to us and once again provide full support for child themes. For the sake of your business, as well as ours.

Hi Ted,

Sorry for the inconvenience but please note that since theme update 9.7 most of the theme files have been moved in the tagDiv Composer plugin, as you can see in our informative article. Now, the child theme is limited to just a few files. This is a consequence of the recent modifications to the location of theme files, due to Envato requirements, sorry! Moving forward with such requirements, a child theme will only work with functions.php, and style.css, as there are very few files left in the main theme as Envato, requires all functionality to be added through plugins. The child theme inherits the look and feels of the parent theme and all of its functions. Where all the functionalities of the theme have been added into a plugin, the child theme no longer has what to get from the parent theme, sorry! The child theme is not a “child plugin”.

I have to say I agree with Ted Slater’s comments. I didn’t research your claims, but it does seem unlikely that Envato would require theme developers to disable the Child theme functionality. Please find a solution so that the Child theme will function as it should.

According to Envato Requirements, the child theme is not mandatory to be offered. Also, if this is provided by the theme author, must be checked the following requirements, as you can see here -> https://www.screencast.com/t/JkRUP9LI -> https://help.author.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000480723-WordPress-Theme-Feature-Requirements#h_5966589781211522283728890 which are valid.

Hi Catalin,
You may not be required to supply a child theme but that does not mean it is acceptable to break the functionality should your users choose to use one.

“Envato requirements have no negative effect over child themes, quite opposite, they encourage you to follow the best standards which makes customization via a child theme much more easier as a result.”

It seems that you have completely misunderstood the Envato requirements.

Using child themes is a standard practice and a best practice that WP users rely on. Please find a solution so that the child theme will function as it should.

I have purchassed theme NewsPaper yesterday, when Im trying to install plugins it says Ajax error and when I am opening Dashboard it is replaced with a screen which says update social plugin like below:
