Christopher is a long time WordPress user. Anything else you need to know is private ;-) I *do not* work for TagDiv, but I've been using their themes since late 2013.

The only way to not have ‘breadcrumbs’ in SERPS, is to *not* use the breadcrumbs feature on post pages.

“Best practice” in SERPS is to show relational content stream via breadcrumbs, however you can try disabling breadcrumbs, resubmit sitemaps, wait a bit and they should return to showing only the URL to the post in lieu of the breadcrumb trail.

a) buy copy of Newspaper theme
b) install it
c) switch to new theme in WP panel
d) adjust and redo stuff that is different

You might need to be way more specific?

What do you mean, exactly.

Do you mean the category options from the post menu in WordPress?

Do you mean the category pages you’ve created with content on them?

simchris
tagDiv Member

Yep. That’s what I do on 20 sites. 🙂

This is why some folks “suggest” using a maintenance plugin and turning that on prior to doing any site updates. But most of us too lazy to do that, myself included!

simchris

What I do here is “remove” the sections of the style.css I’m not using, like buddypress, woocommerce, etc.

simchris

This should be in the FAQs, actually … if there were one.

When you do a theme update, your folder is temporarily exposed and Google may try to index it, but there is nothing there to “execute” and so you get an error. Usually you will see (1) of these in your Google Search Console each time you do a theme update since the theme has to be removed, then reinstalled, and if Google “looks” at the site while it happens -bam- you get that error.

Getting one error at update is normal.

Getting dozens means hack attempt.

Often you can simply have an index.php file there saying “this is not a public page.”

been there 🙂

Best way to do it:

via FTP, navigate to your wp-content/plugins/
and then delete the old js-composer folder.

then unzip the visual composer folder on your computer,
upload that folder to your wp-content/plugins/
folder via FTP.

Done. Good to learn how to do this if your hosting panel or WP admin panel ‘times out’ when trying to do some stuff like this. Theme can’t control those issues, unfortunately.

Theme doesn’t control the OG meta data, typically.

Check the ‘view source’ to see WHAT your open graph data actually looks like for any specific post. That is what FB will grab, unless they are having hiccup, and might not grab anything (common issue not related to any one site).

Try checking your post with FB debug tool.

But double check your OG data, as that is what FB needs to grab data properly.

Usually you will need to either insert shortcode for plugin into your template where desired, or check the help/docs for plugin on how to integrate their plugin with themes.

Also, have him ‘ignore’ the nag screen to register/activate Visual Composer; not needed with the ‘bundled version’ included with theme.

There was bug in WordPress tinyMCE editor — not related to theme in any way — that was fixed by this week’s update to WordPress; so make sure WP has been updated, then have client fully clear all caching/history in his browser(s) on tablet.

Also, make sure he is using ‘visual’ editor in WP as the text edit doesn’t insert live links when doing copy-paste from HTML. Basic WP usage worth a refresher with clients, I often find 😉

been there!!! 🙂

simchris

Did you update VC plugin as well as theme?

simchris

Often caching issue, or transients issue after doing updates to latest Yoast SEO or this week’s version of WordPress.

a) try resaving permalinks
b) try clearing transients with WP-Optimize
c) clear any caching plugin, AND in your browser

This usually solves such “sudden” gremlins after doing updates.

Trash is part of WordPress, not the theme. Theme has zero impact on normal WP buttons/controls.

See the official WP docs (codex) for help on using the trash functions:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Trash_status

a) what screen are you on where you expect to see trash option and don’t
b) did you enable to view option in WP for seeing all options
c) is yes to both, try saving a screen capture and sharing here to point out what issue you’re seeing

We’re not having this issue on any of our sites with tagdiv themes (3 different themes).

You may also want to look through the official WordPress docs at some point on wordpress.org – the ‘codex’ as this explains much of the core functionality of what WP is, how it works, and what things do.

This may prove useful for background:

Well, helps to go “look” at things.

WordPress.org is the home base for WordPress downloads, documentation, plugins, information. Nothing is hosted there for websites.

WordPress.com is a place where you can host a site for free, or have a paid premimum level enterprise VIP site.

Obviously, if your host isn’t explaining what they offer, you might re-read the features of the service you paid for to understand what you’re getting and how web hosting works.

Simply use the Automattic AMP plugin as best solution; it’s built and maintained by the folks who make WordPress, and is being used by some of the top WP-powered sites in the world like TIME.com, etc.

See the docs for the Automattic plugin to manage ad placements, edit the custom templates, etc.

Best solutions as it’s “agnostic” to any specific theme, and things do change over time.

I suspect eventually it will be added to WP core, but AMP is still rolling out this yearfor most folk, even though it’s been in beta since end of 2015.

I don’t work here, but it’s highly unlikely custom AMP elements will be added to this, or most, themes, as the support level would be insurmountable from a cost-effective basis; meaning the team would need to spend more time helping people “fix” their sites for AMP, and the cost per site might be more in support time than cost of theme — since people need to learn to fix bad HTML, https conversion, specific ad support limitations, lack of support for certain javascript elements, poor plugin support, etc.

(I don’t work here. Using TagDiv themes for 3.5 years.)

Nope. I don’t use them 🙂

@Koznazna
You should make a new post for your current problem vs replying to an issue resolved 14+ months ago and does not apply to current version of WP. The thread you posted on was a bug introduced by WordPress and not related to the theme.

simchris

also, if you have old smaller images needing to be larger; try adding the free ‘thumbnail upscale’ plugin. We had same issue with site launched in 2005 🙂

simchris

You would need to modify the style classes in style.css – or hire a developer to massively customize theme.

you could first try making the layout width wider in the stylesheet to see what happens 😉

simchris

You cannot upload themes to wordpress.org.

Do you mean WordPress.com ?

If you are using WordPress.com – you might want to read the docs there:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/

if that was not what you meant, you might need to be waaaay more specific.

Which version of Safari, and what OS ?

Note Safari on Windows retired several years ago as insecure/defunct.

Our sites work on Safari MacOs and iOS just fine.

( I don’t work here. )

ALSO: try manually clearing cache if on an iPad, as I had issue with this previously.
