Christopher is a long time WordPress user. Anything else you need to know is private ;-) I *do not* work for TagDiv, but I've been using their themes since late 2013.

Any theme framework using Visual Composer will have that file – it’s not technically part of theme; so hundreds of themes using VC will have that payload, but it’s the plus and minus to this kind of fancy site.

You can minify the main css file per my suggestions in my sticky post on optimization, which helps quite a bit.

Also, luckily this stuff actually gets zipped/compressed when sent to browser and cached so not being loaded over and over.

There is also code in my optimization sticky on topic of disabling VC loading on post pages where it’s not used (at least in my case).

Sadly, for highly complex and “lots of features” sites, there *is* a big payload, but not so bad — some themes make it seem smaller by loading 10 diff CSS files, where here it’s all combined.

Standard size CSS for most complex themes is actually about 550KB — not 75KB. It’s not apples to apples, it’s apples to watermelons — footprint is quite different.

But you can optimize stuff quite a bit for speed and Google pagespeed rating, which should be the main target for using large complex “feature-packed” themes like this one.

That might not have helped, but some feedback (I’ve been doing webdev 20 years and using WP 10 years, so not totally nuts over here… at least most of the time) 😉

Average size for a complex theme is actually about 550KB these days as it combines multiple sizes, shapes, options, layouts, mobile/responsive, etc.

Visual composer is also a bit big.

However the actual footprint is much smaller for web browser via gzip and also with caching in the cloud (e.g., Chrome will cache your data if enough hits come from Chrome users, etc.).

You can also manually “minify” the main CSS file using the tips/tricks from my sticky post on site optimization.

But yes, it’s a bit big for all those features people have asked for (demanded?) — so, there is a lot going on, but it’s better than loading 10 diff. CSS files as it’s actually more efficient for one “packet” …

and some data is actually inlined automatically to help with pagespeed/rating.

There was a post exchange a while back for v4 where I’d asked about what we could “take out” if not using bbpress, woocommerce, multisite, or other things to “trim it” and that would be a good tutorial for Radu or somebody to tackle in a
“what can I take out of the main CSS file”
“what can I take out of the main includes-functions file”

as those are the two big payloads other than visual composer.

Not all images from the demos on themeforest are included, as they are licensed images. The demo setups are to help build your own content, not provide content you use for real.

If that was not the issue, pardon my input.

You would go to appearance > menus
then select the menu you want to edit.

You can add new items to menu, and one of the choices one left side is to add a new menu item, such as custom link, which you then create, add to menu list, them move to the position you want.

See:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Appearance_Menus_Screen#Custom_Links

little trial and error … I always forget that until I need to do it; just went through same thing setting up a WooCommerce setup, and the home was going to the custom home “page” and not the “website” — which I think is same issue you’re having.

SOrry I don’t have way to post a screenshot here at moment.

Tagdiv support may have better, simpler answer. 🙂

Hi
you can follow these directions:
https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/

note you need to DELETE the old theme folder before uploading the new one. When you update themes and plugins you don’t “over write” the old one, you delete old one, and upload the NEW version. Best way is via FTP.

Be sure you have backups of all your files, dbase, etc., so you can “go back” if necessary.

Hope that was slightly helpful.

What I do in menu is do ‘custom link’ and type in my site name, and then the ‘home’ link becomes your website URL. Try that 🙂

Hi,
if you’re asking about the [tagdiv] social counter widget …

in mine I just put in the number of subscribers not the URL, it presumes it’s your main site URL for rss … sitename.vvv/feed/

try just putting in something like 500 … 🙂

I tend to use 640×480 *or 640xNNN* photos where possible as good “standard size” for our main magazine site; and for our news portals we sometimes use 500×375 and don’t enlarge on the post itself, but allow enlargement on things like slider or featured image on category, as it still looks acceptable.

Hope that helped somebody.

When saving out of Photoshop; start with a quality factor of 20 or 22, with a slight blur of 0.2, when doing “save for web.” For any image with a lot of “red” — you may need to go with “52” as the setting as red is not handled well by crappy jpeg old tech from the 20th century (same tech used on DVDs!) 🙂

You can download the activation code in your ThemeForest account under downloads; click the download green button and notice the item “License Certificate and Purchase Code” …

This is likely why you didn’t get reply from Envato; the info is already in your account.

Hope that helped! (Pardon if it did not!) 🙂

If your code “does not work” and you need replacement, you might need to email tagdiv directly.

Try unzipping on your PC, and upload the folder directly via FTP to the /wp-content/plugins/ folder.

You can change the footer setup from the theme panel, and I believe it’s under the templates setting, if memory serves. (Might be wrong.)

Hi, the best way for Google speed is actually to have actual thumbs for each size, and use the regenerate thumbnails plugin to build for all the sizes. Otherwise you end up with images being “resized” and masked by the web browser, and loading larger images in each spot, which impacts over page load time by loading larger images.

I use the free “thumbnail upscale” plugin and then the regenerate thumbnails plugin at it makes all the right sizes to “fill” each spot.

If that was not what you were asking about, pardon the reply here. 🙂

Hi
fyi, for our setup the only one I could get to work for everything was this:

WP-Mail-SMTP
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/

the error logs would likely be from your web hosting setup; go to your hosting panel, then “logs” and there should be error log which shows errors being generated (some are normal, some are probes from bots, some are specific to stuff like “unable to connect blah blah…”).

Actually, many SMTP plugins ALSO have a debug mode to let you know if there was issue connecting to send email, which is how I was able to finally get one to work for us.

We use “authenticated” email via secure port, on an “https always on” site setup. Which is why I had to go through some extra hoops.

Sorry don’t have more simple easy answer … this was the last problem that was tough to solve for the ecom setup in my case.

@Jeffrey Summers
apologies for the upset. Sorry you didn’t want help from other users and chose to attack me instead; which I kindly responded in the same form.

Most people would have replied to my initial note with something like:
“ha ha, funny! Yes, I should have looked first – that is very obvious” – or similar.

Apologies if my “bantering” mode of offering to help you, in this case, upset you so much. I likely should just not have replied back to your jabs at me personally. However, my answer to your request for help was not wrong.

I have helped hundreds of users on my own time here the past 2 years, and MOST people either enjoy my sometimes witty banter and often highly technical support help on weekends while I’m here working on my own sites and sometimes have small windows to post some help here for newbies to WP, and theme use.

Again, my apologies.

Please remember this is a public forum for users and these are not private support tickets. I am not a troll, if you’d bother to look at how many people I’ve helped on here. But in any case. Sorry for your upset. I’ll avoid trying to help/educate you in future and steer clear of any of your posts. Fair?

Cheers.

Hi, Alin
yeah — I just thought for those folks who wanted a blackout version AND a music version where the music sites seem more commonly ‘blacked out…’ might be good, and swap out video clips for audio clip player maybe.

Actually, you could just likely make a blackout version of the gamer demo as THAT is the most common blackout site type I’ve seen online —

just food for thought :-0

Odd that it would fail saying folder exists if no folder there. You might try deleting the folder in the wp-content/plugins there now from attempt.

Download fresh copy from themeforest in the all files download, extract the zip file on you harddrive, then upload the new copy of plugin folder to the plugins folder … Remember to put in wp-content/plugins and not the theme/plugins .. Then go to wp admin, plugins and activate plugin.

It does work so likely some step in that trail is missed or the orig file was corrupt.

Tagdiv support back tomorrow,

You would likely need to edit the query for the author box element with an if user 123 based on the user id number, then dont show box, else show box.

Tagdiv should be able to point you at right file with screen shot and some example code to try, when they get back in monday.

The share buttons above below stories are for people to share to their own accounts. To add your social media links you can use widget to add to sidebar and the footer area. See the theme docs for how to.

If that was not the question , sorry. Tagdiv support back monday! ?

You may need to setup smtp email as the theme does not manage the email, and usually this happens from built in wp mail connecting to php. Check error log also. Its also possible the signup got email but went into junk folder. Smtp email is sometimes solution for this issue as the receiving mail system treats it as real message vs mail bot. Tons of discussion about this online for bbpress, woocommerce, etc.

I just setup ecom store and only way to get gmail to not tag it as spam for lost password emails was to setup smtp email via plugin for wp. I think we chose the easy smtp plugin from the wordpress.org repo.

Tagdiv might gave better answer, but that has been my expeience.

Hope that helped a little bit. ?

They usually post the theme version in the changelog files from the theme download, and at top of style.css file, and shoukd show in the wp admin panel under appearance > themes.

I think you can also see list of versions and changes on bottom of the theme info page on themeforest. They might have separate changelog page, but had not seen that.

Hope that helped a little ?

Hi, we had same issue with lots of 300×250 images.
We also didnt have them set as featured pix.

So, track down the free thumbnail upscale plugim on wordpress.org, them do the regen thumbs again.

I ended up using the auto post thumbnail pro plugin on envato, it can generate the pix and assign as featured images from first image placed in post, if you dont have all your old pix set as featured.

Hope that helped! ?

A single blackout theme version would be cool… Maybe a music theme which others have also asked for.

simchris

Tagdiv support is closed weekends, and back Monday. If you have not already done so the theme docs right side this page are greatvplace to start for step by step on theme options, setting up home page and default post template, etc.

Hope that helped a little. ?

The version of visual composer included with theme is a bundled version, it does not with separate license key. It will be updated with next version of theme once tested as compatible. You can also see more info in the theme docs.

Hope that helped a little ?
