Hi,

Those thumbnails are indeed blurry. It’s the same on my test install. The thing is that they are also blurry if I test with a default theme, I think they look even worse https://prnt.sc/4SaSaFy2OAiT

There is a very small thumb there, 100×100 https://leather-templates.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/901-Leather-Belt-Pattern-v01-fixed-belt-free-02-100×100.jpeg If it was bigger it would look better, but I see no way to set a bigger thumb for the gallery in Woocommerce.

I found a lot of topics online about blurry woocommerce images, especially in galleries. It looks like there was an issue but I’m not sure if it was fixed https://wordpress.org/support/topic/weird-image-behaviour-in-product-gallery-after-last-update/

Some say to use this option in the wordpress customizer to make the thumbs bigger https://prnt.sc/6L8fZs_QQ3HE and then regenerate the thumbs, but I tried it and it doesn’t seem to have changed anything. I tried other code solutions but no luck so far. I’ll keep looking, maybe there is a way to increase the size of the thumbs or a way to make them look better.

Thank you!

I had the same issue with the galleries.
But in my case the images on laptop screen were ok. But they were blurry on my desktop monitor which has resolution of 2560×1440. The inspector says my thumbnail is 300×450 pixels, but in fact physically they had (at least) twice more pixels.
Finally, I have installed another gallery with Retina support. This gallery generates photo thumbnails for bigger screens too. And the issue have göne.

So, I think that either you can try to seek for some Retina plugin for WP, or the theme developers must add support of Retina screens.

Firefox is the default browser that I work on and all images and thumbnails look fine but when I check it on chrome a lot of images and thumbnails are blurry..how can I solve this?

Hi,

What you can do is to regenerate the thumbs and check to see if there is a difference -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/thumbnails-fix-strange-looking-images-on-blocks/ normal our theme create a thumb image for each thumb enable in theme panel -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/theme-thumbs/
If the images look blurry on homepage, what you can do is to use some flex blocks or a Big grid flex you have some more control over the featured image using this element -> https://i.imgur.com/9eZ0pJe.png

Thank you!

On my website all of my featured images are appearing blurry. This only happens on the thumbnails, when clicking on the post the image is full quality. I have tried resizing the images and deactivating any other plugins.

Is there any way to fix this?

Thank you.

Your theme has a small bug where it cannot detect 4k desktop/laptop displays as “retina” displays even though they are. The result is that all thumbnails use the lower res version on 4k displays and they all look blurry. I tried turning off the “regular” thumbnails and just leaving retina on, hoping this would force the retina version to display all the time, but that just shows the thumbnail missing placeholder. Any way to make this happen?

Hi there,

I’m having a problem where the images that I uploaded for the article thumbnails. Display differently on these 3 pages: Home, Categories, and Tag. I was hoping to get the same appearance of the thumbnail image from the home page and even though the image was uploaded High Quality, it display it as a blurry image on the category page and sometimes inside the tagged page. We noticed that the theme is auto-adjusting the image which we don’t like. Once again, we want to have the same thumbnail appearance on the home page…..to all category page and tag pages.
Is there a way you can help me?

Hi, I don’t know why the small images in my blocks are blurry. The same images are sharp when they appear in a post but they’re blurry when they’re very small. It’s like the theme was compressing them more for thumbnails than for larger images.

You can see that looking at the homepage of my site or any other category page or any post (at the end when other posts are suggested as related posts) : http://www.devenirbilingue.com

I regenerated thumbnails after the theme update, but it did nothing.

Could you help with this?

Thank you.

I have the same problem and waiting for their help. It’s very strange that the quality of Flex is very good but it is very bad in other blocks. And more strange that they all look good in the Composer mode, and become bad in normal view.

https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/thumbnails-are-very-blurry/#post-277037

Btw, I don’t think we need upload images with the exact sizes, because everything was fine when I worked with Newsmag.

Hello,
I just changed my theme to newspaper. Everything is working well except this one thing.
On the home page, below the slider, we have inserted 3 single images in a separate row in 3 columns.
On the test site, no problem, the images appear sharp. Once the settings are exported to my blog, the images appear blurry. They are well in real size, and the thumbnails have been regenerated. Any idea on how to solve this?
Thank you in advance 🙂

Hi,

1. Do you use any caching or CDN? If possible try without any of these as a quick test. How the website loads could be affected by such services. You can check the live theme demo, see how it loads
https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/

2. From what I can see you use stretched rows with blocks. The images may look blurry, the same thumbnails will be used, as in a non-stretched row.
You could use the flex block which allow you to choose a thumbnails size, this would be more suited for full width. Or use Full big grids
https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/full-big-grid-1/

3. I inspected the website, for me this issue is not happening
https://www.screencast.com/t/QNu7izkp
That would be the header menu section, but it should not have a height of 1068px
https://www.screencast.com/t/jiHw3rU2q

4. The latest theme version is 8.7.4, the theme and WordPress should always be kept to date if possible.
https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
If you use WPBakery page builder for your website, remember to deactivate the tagDiv composer after you update. When both these page builders are active there could be problems with some elements.

Thanks

Hi,

I have browsed the forum this morning looking for an answer but have been unable to find anything that works.

The thumbnails and featured images are displaying find on some displays, and blurry on others. I have turned on the Retina thumbnail option and am using high quality JPGs. Please see screenshots below:

images - retina

images - normal display - low quality

Retina display:
Good resolution on large image and some thumbnails

Normal display:
Low resolution on all images

I have attempted a variety of different things but nothing has worked.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Hi,
On my website, even though featured images are clear, all thumbnails are blurry. What could be the reason?

Regenerating thumbnails and deactivating plugins does not solve the issue of blurry thumbnails. The images in the posts are very clear – something happens with the display on the thumbnails – you can see my staging site here:
http://b71.778.myftpupload.com/ – I need the site to be live, but can’t do it with this blurry thumbnails.

This is common issue: https://forum.tagdiv.com/search/blurry+images+in+thumbnails/

Are you guys at Envato fixing this or what?

Hi
My thumbnails are blurry (poor quality) too, including logo image. It’s very obvious. I’ve regenerated thumbnails. This is a problem caused by this theme because I was using another theme with this same site and had crystal clear images, these same images. Any ideas on how to fix?

See here: http://epicobserver.com

Thanks

Hi,

Indeed there seems to be an issue with the thumbnails quality. I have used one of your images in a test using same thumbnail size, these are the result
https://www.screencast.com/t/tUG2n8k4n
There is a noticeable difference between the image quality. From what I can see the thumbnail is already created blurry
https://www.southernvines.co.za/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Windmeul-Market-218×150.jpg
This should not happen, the theme does not influence the quality of the thumbnails. Please deactivate all plugins except them plugins, and clear all caching installed. Then regenerate the thumbnails again
https://forum.tagdiv.com/thumbnails-fix-strange-looking-images-on-blocks/
The thumbnails will be recreates, and they should look better. If you have any image
quality filter added somewhere in the theme files or other configuration, remove it.

Thanks

Hi there, I’ve really been struggling with blurry thumbnails and featured images on my site. I’ve disabled WP Smush, disabled WP Super Cache, regenerated thumbnails, done it all and nothing is working. I’m uploading images at full size – most are over 1000px wide.

URL: https://www.southernvines.co.za

You can see when you click into each article the image is crisp and clear.

Please help?

I am having a problem with blurred images since uploading the new theme recently.
Images in portrait appear crisp, but images in landscape appear slightly blurred and smaller than the content container.
The portrait images are custom size (500pxX height). The landscape images are set to ‘large’ in the drop down (640 X800). This ‘large’ is a setting that just appears in the drop down and may have been a previous setting from my previous theme which is now built in and I can’t seem to figure out how to alter this ‘large’ option no matter what I try in Media~> settings, etc. or the theme panel.
I have a lot of content already loaded with images in landscape set to ‘large’ (640X800) so I would like to find a way to correct the size/blurry/problem by somehow altering the ‘large’ post thumb-size and then regenerating the thumbnails so that I don’t have to reload all the images seperately if possible.
ALSO NOTE: Many (but not all) of the older posts, posted using the old theme are showing larger, less blurry images (although still set to 640px).. so could it be a container/ content area size issue or similar?
Obviously I am a novice at the whole coding thing, so any help would be appreciated to get all the landscape images to appear uniform and not blurry and be the same width as the text like the older posts.
The blurry image problem is only noticeable on desktop. see examples here —
newer post — with blurry smaller landscape images
http://www.sevenwanderers.com/travel-tips/travel-stories/finding-korey
older post — with larger images (still not perfectly crisp quality though)

Thanks for any advice

Hi,

There is a major problem with responsive mobile version of the Newspaper theme that effects the page load speed and Google rankings. I currently using latest version (7.5), regenerated thumbnails and I thought it might fix it, but it didn’t.

The problem is that the image gets blurry and low quality in posts in mobile version even when I upload the image that is 400px wide. When I viewed it in my LG G3, the images in post (at least 400px wide) is of low quality. This wasn’t the case when I used to have Newspaper version 6.

The images should be able to get at least medium quality images in post images, but it doesn’t.

To fix this, you should upload image 2x the size. For example, if you have 400px wide image then you should upload 800px image to get it with good quality on mobile. WE DON’T want every image to be unnecessarily 800px wide image on posts. This definitely affects the site loading speed and eventually depreciates the search engine rankings.

You guys should do something to fix this problem immediately, or offer the solution get it fixed. You might suggest using Mobile plugin version, but it still it a mess, and the users has been getting a lot of issues reported on this forum.

Thanks!

Hi there! We’re stuck over here. We’ve gone through all the forums and posts regarding getting ultra clear images on our site, but just can’t seem to get it to work. We set up this test page to show what we mean:

http://pirl.com/photo-test-page/

The original photo is included at the bottom of the page, which looks very sharp. But as soon as we include it in any posts module or block, it seems the images are always blurry (to varying degrees).

We’ve tried almost all of the modules, we’ve tried regenerating thumbnails to exceed the width of the modules, etc etc.

Does someone have a best practice we can follow here? Or could someone from TagDiv log in to our site to set the image dimensions appropriately? Thanks!!

Hello Murphyo,

Please notice that our theme uses the cropping system to cut the featured images to perfectly fit on your website. For more information about thumbnails and featured images, you will have to check our documentation here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/thumbnails-vs-featured-image-size/ Also, if you want to change the thumbs size values, please try to consult the following topic here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/thumbnail-size-blurry-issue/

Hope this helps!

If you need more assistance in this regard, please provide your website URL so I can inspect it closer.

Thanks for your understanding!

Hello, I have a very similar issue, but with the 324×160 thumbnail images. If you look on this page: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper, at a browser window of 700px wide, for example, you’ll see that the thumbnails are being scaled up more than 2x. This of course makes them blurry, especially on a retina display. Example here: http://www.screencast.com/t/OxsmYbpo0xYw

These 324×160 thumbnails are also displayed in their ‘normal’ resolution on a full-width page, instead of 2x which would make them sharp on a retina display. Example here: http://www.screencast.com/t/Rf9E5vdpqT

If the featured image is not uploaded, then the theme shows either a placeholder or nothing, and that is not what I want.

Do you have a suggestion for how to show double-density images as thumbnails?

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Hello,

I am just wondering then you have planned to release an update for the theme?

The main problems for me is:

– The fixed navigation on mobile is not staying fixed after the new iPhone update.

– There are problems with the BIG grids on Safari. I am using “BIG grid 6” and there are white lines showing after each images when hovering the grid.

Then I also wonder if you are planning any solution for retina displays? On newsmag the smaller thumbnails are very blurry on retina devices. This could maybe be solved by a responsive image solution or something similar.

Best Regards

Erik
