we’ve tried a lot of things… we’ve made a copy of the site here
https://staging2.ekreator.hr

We’ve updated the main theme and turned off the child theme (all the changes are in the child theme) and turn off non essential plugins… so bare bones portal.

We have 3 depths of categories but only want to see first 2, so on the main site (let just focus on the “blog” top category) you only see few categories.

When we use a lot of subcategories (because we aggregate sites) is where the problem arises.

The modification that we did was hiding the deepest category from menu upped the limit, but we only found that for the “mega menu” on this location:
includes/shortcodes/td_block_mega_menu.php

But now we have a problem for the “mobile menu” that we can’t seem to find where to up the limit.

This is a summarry of the problem, if you need more, in depth problem clarification, I can do it with videos and screenshots if you need.

Thanks

Before the update I was able to show the modified date on certain templates. For example, on single_template_7.php I added this file to my child theme and modified it with the-modified-date.

Is there a way to still do this, either to a particular template or to all the posts.

Maybe this will change in the future, can’t say for sure what will happen. Or maybe we find a solution to be able to modify plugin files in a safer way, as it was possible with a child theme before. Sorry for the inconvenience.

If you simply want to display a shortcode in a category page, you could use a cloud template. The shortcode can be entered in a column text element, then the template can be applied to the needed categories – https://cloud.tagdiv.com/#/load/Category

*IMPORTANT*
I cannot update the tagdiv composer on one of my sites. My other site updated fine but the other will not. Continues to say that it failed.
It was using the child theme and I saw where the child theme is outdated so I need some insight on this, please.

Thanks!

While it does allow styling the document using custom CSS, it does not allow author written JavaScript beyond what is provided through the custom elements to reach its performance goals.‘

Please check the AMP HTML Specification
-> https://www.ampproject.org/docs/fundamentals/spec#html-tags
Also please check a similar topic -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/custom-javascript-is-not-allowed/

Also after you manage the javascript, please access your permalinks section of WordPress and press the save button again for the permalinks. you do not have to change the structure. Just save gain. This fixed the amp error for most users.

Hi,

Please do not use WPBacker on pages/templates/demos that are created with tagDiv Composer, please use tagDiv Composer on those.

This warning https://prnt.sc/njf963 appear when the page is open in back-end editor and saved the page -> https://www.screencast.com/t/gB5El0tWFC if you will click on save on TagDiv Composer and open the page again directly in Composer that warning should not appear.

Please make sure that all the settings are like in our requirements, please follow the guide carefully
https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/
and please increase all requirements that are lower, and follow all steps.

Hi Simion,
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction here. I was able to make the change now in the core plugin. A pity there is no real way to add into a child theme to protect against updates moving forward but I have made note of this now. Changing the top category grid layout to just allowed featured tags is the key for us as we have sponsored posts in our newspaper layout so we must continue to be able to alter this area. I am not sure if there are any plans to have an option in the theme options to be able to associated a tag for each category called featured_category name for example and then those featured posts stay in that area – who knows:)

At least now we have it all setup again the way we need it. Appreciate the time.

Thanks you.

Hello,
After upgrading to 9.7.2 we faced with multiple problems.
So far, we have used the possibility of modifying the existing templates (Style 1, 2…) that we used in the Child theme. And that worked fine. Now for custom templates we need to use the Cloud Library plugin.
Its very good solution. But now we have 4000+ posts to set up to use a new template – made in the Cloud Library plugin. Is there a way to change the templates via the MySql database in phpMyAdmin? For example: All posts that are using Post template: Style 3 to change to use New template that we make with Cloud Library plugin….

Thanks

Thank you for this.
The good news is that I wasn’t using a child-theme.

Hi,

That will not work anymore with a child theme. After the 9.7 update many of the theme files were moved in the tagDiv composer, due to the new Envato requirements
https://tagdiv.com/updating-the-core-of-tagdiv-themes/
As a consequence the child theme is quite limited now, only a few theme files can still be used in it.

The category top post style files are now here – http://prntscr.com/ns8oaf and the only way to edit them would be there directly. A child theme containing these files will have no effect.

If you have more questions, let me know.

Thanks

Hi,

You still can use the Custom Post Types and Custom Taxonomies but now you can not longer set in child theme template for theme, you can use only the default template.
Now the post template can be found in wp-content/plugins/td-composer/legacy/Newspaper/parts/single -> https://www.screencast.com/t/tUeFJjisP

Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding!

Hello,

Most of the theme files were moved into the tagdiv composer plugin as per the requirements of envato: https://help.author.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000472383-WordPress-Theme-Requirements.
We wrote an article on the subject here: https://tagdiv.com/updating-the-core-of-tagdiv-themes/
Moving forward with such requirements, a child theme will only work with functions.php, and style.css as there are very few files left in the main theme as envato requires all functionality to be added through plugins.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for understanding.

Yes, this is interesting, the file on my server had “1001” but the new download of the child theme packaged with the 4.9 version had “11”. Changing it to 11 fixed the issue.

Some additional info you may need to help us.

I have put our child theme in dropbox so you can see the file we used.

The file I’m referring to can be found in the child theme: Newspaper-child/includes/category_top_posts_styles/td_category_top_posts_style_2.php

That would override the parent theme file and show the grid we wanted based on a wordpress shortcode.

You can find that file here in dropbox:

Hello,
I just update theme Newsppaer 9 from Newspaper 9.6 to 9.7.2 version.
I set in Theme options to use Header – Style 4, and I set in Ads to use Header Ad and put on this place Html image code for banner. With this settings site is broken. Please see https://prnt.sc/ns0sfa

In case, I delete html banner image code from Header Add – the website works good! In case I change Header settings and change to Header Style – Style 1 (or Style 2, Style 3…) website works.

In this particular case only tagDiv plugins are enables. I’m using a “Child theme”, but I was trying with parent theme and the problem is the same.

Can you help me with this?

Sorry for my English

Hi,
Upgraded to the latest Newspaper theme.
My child theme had a custom top posts section which overrides the td_category_top_posts_style_2 class to show posts I’ve tagged as ‘featured’.
When I look at the new theme in the folder Newspaper/includes/category_top_posts_styles/ the only file I am seeing is . I would have expected to see a whole list of files for each of the top post category type classes?

Screenshot of the folder New theme: https://www.dropbox.com/s/780582iqweukzut/Screenshot%202019-05-22%2019.51.52.png?dl=0

In the previous version of the theme I would see a list of files for each category top posts type in the Theme Panel.

Like this screenshot Old Theme: https://www.dropbox.com/s/05bg4fm07ybw9l1/Screenshot%202019-05-22%2019.50.49.png?dl=0

Is my theme missing these somehow or is it now called in a different way, meaning I’ve to adjust my child theme?

Thanks,
James

That’s right, I switch to the standard theme and it’s fine.
The child theme was the culprit !

A lot of us are using child themes. Will it become child theme compatible?
