I’m using big grid flex 6 for the higher section of my homepage. I want to display the tags of a post within this section, but it seems it’s doesn’t possible in the theme panel. How could I modify the theme-child templates in order to do that?

Sorry but the category color is individual for each category no matter if there is a child-parent relation between them
These colors however do not work on modules and blocks. Only on posts. The theme blocks were never designed to grab the color from the posts. The category tag color is set for all blocks at once. The child theme needs the smaller version of the functions file as this file has a special implementation in the child theme. The small file is required instead of the big file .

Within Theme panel / Categories / Per category settings, we’ve the possibilty to set CATEGORY TAG COLOR ON POST PAGE.
2 questions :
– Is there a way to make the child categories inherit the color of the parent category ?
– This tag color setting works on Category & post pages but not in blocks used on custom pages such as homepage. How can I set this custom color on tags showed in blocks ? If it requires a custom modification of standards modules (on child theme), how can I get the category color information ?

A while ago I created a child theme with the files available in the /code/ folder. In this folder was also the functions.php file with just a few lines of coding. This file is now in my child theme folder. Everything is working fine btw. When I look into the ‘regular’ functions.php file from the latest Newspaper update, I see a much bigger file with more lines of coding. Should I copy this to my child theme or can I stick to the small file which is in my child theme folder for a while now?

With out header builder the only way will be to make some changes in theme files, but if you can not do this changes in a child theme after theme update this changes will be override.

Hi, I’m looking for how you change what’s displayed on block7 for a custom post type. Currently, the “post date” is what’s being displayed as the date, and I want to display the “event” date for the EventCalendar tribe_events CPT in the block. Can you point me to how to do this in Newspaper? I assume i need to modify some PHP in my child theme? Thanks in advance!

Now you need to make a new child theme with the actual header in it and set the code write by you for header from old child in the new one, this should work.

I’ve created a child theme for Newspaper. I don’t have custom post types, but do I have custom taxonomies for posts.
I’d like to add a “top post style Grid” to taxonomy.php, archive.php, tag.php and author.php so that all archives have a consistent look. Please check the screenshot to clarify:

I don’t need the “top post style Grid” to be selectable in the backend (like you have for post categories). All I want is to add grid 5 (or 7 – I haven’t decided yet) in taxonomy.php, archive.php, tag.php and author.php over the “ARTICLE DISPLAY VIEW” by adding some code there.

If it works without the child theme active, then it would be safe to say that the child theme is responsible.
Before an update, if you use a child theme, please check the files that have been modified by us. There is always a list of them here – http://prntscr.com/ml066e

In the latest update the header.php was modified

So the old file from the child theme may cause problems. You would need to copy the new file in the child theme and redo the modifications/additions that are needed.

Hello, I am building a site and when today I have updated the theme, the site does not load. There is a white page and that’s it. With the child theme it does not work, while if the parent theme is active everything is ok. What is the problem? Please answer me as soon as possible, it is urgent.

If you checked and it’s not in the theme pane, then it could be in the theme files. Reinstalling the theme will provide fresh files. If it’s still happening after trying this, maybe a child theme is active, or a plugin is responsible.

I don’t think it is possible from a child theme. Not all them files are supported to be used in a child theme.
If you use the tagDiv composer, now there are flex blocks which have a great deal of customization options, so maybe the result you achieved with the block you added can be achieved with a flex block.
With the cloud library you can design templates and create them entirely with the tagDiv composer, bypassing the need to use widgets

This update comes with the opportunity to build your own header, something that was not possible until now, so if you have in child theme changes make for header is possible that those now longer to work.
What you can do is to change the header in child theme with the header for current header and set the code there ( the old one with the new one).

Maybe you want to say if is still use this function td_api_header_style::_helper_show_header(), if is so then the answer is no, that function is not longer use, that function was made for default header, now the v9.5 include the Header Builder and the header file was change, this is one of the disadvantage using child theme ( custom elements ) you need to follow the theme updates and check if the child is still compatible.

This is a major update, you’ll need to make a new child theme after current theme and set in it the changes from the old one.

So the theme requirements are as mentioned in the guide but after the theme is updated the website crashes. Usually this is related to insufficient wp-memory. We recommend a value of 256M for most websites, when possible. If this is not allowed by your host then there could be various problems and there would be nothing we can do about it

Try to deactivate all plugins, if you use a child theme deactivate it. Then update the theme again, also update the theme plugins.
