Hi, I’m already using the latest version of the theme and of the child theme, so I’m afraid thats not the reason for the wrong visualization…
Hi there,
I am an enthusiastic user of Newspaper since april. I had a optimized child theme with few and unimportant changes.
It was performing really well, scoring 86-90 on Google Speed Test with no critical problem.
Yesterday I had the awful idea to update it using the ThemeForest updating plugin.
I updated the theme to 7.4 with all the plugins, but my speed terribly dropped. Now no matter how hard I try to work on plugins, cache and other optimization tools, results are poor. Google Speed Test also started to warn about image dimension (all adv not under my control), a warning never showed before.
Not only: visual composer added some information on my homepage I didn’t want to show (like author and comments) and made the Homepage extremely slow.
What happened?
I did nothing technical, just updating to a new version using official tools.
What can I do?
Thank you,
Alberto
WP Version 4.6.1
Newspaper Version 7.4

You should manually minify your CSS and not do it via the cache plugin; and don’t minify js with plugin, that also needs to be done manually. My long optimization thread in the docs > diy tutorials > best of forums has some examples on that. I also recommend NOT using child theme for best results overall on speed.
Hi all..
I’ve problem with fonts after minify css and js files.
For pagespeed I did some changes. Using child theme.
1. deleted import code from child theme style.css and moved main style.css content to child theme style.css.
2. moved font codes from header. and imported fonts child theme style.css file.
3. don’t use child.css file.
4. Moved jquery and other js files from header to footer.
Using w3 total cache, and when I activate css minify web site fonts not showing correctly. And after a few minutes only home page turning mobile version.
Selecting post content font “Open Sans” from theme panel, but it doesn’t work.
But if I change font family css code from Chrome Developer Tools, like font-family: “Open Sans, sans-serif”;, it shows fonts correctly.
I removed font codes header, but not changed.
What the reason can be?
Hi all,
first of all: I really like the them which is now running also on my musicblog (http://www.tespiel.de).
Unfortunately I have the skills to change the css in my child theme. I have to change to change the color to make the blockquotes visible. 😉
Example: http://www.testspiel.de/hallo-spencer-und-die-quietsch-beus-singen-meh-bier-von-fettes-brot/322514/
The big white area in the post is where the b-quote is.
Thanks for your help in advance,
Marc
Hello xanamorales,
I have checked your website and I saw that you are using the child theme. Please ensure that you are using the latest version of the theme and also, the latest version of child theme which comes bundled with the main theme. Please try to switch the theme to the main one, update your child theme, clear all your caches and test again the results. For more information about child theme support, please check here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/
Hope this helps and let us know how it goes!
Thanks for the message!
Hi,
Sorry but this modification must be done in the main theme. The file that needs to be modified does not work from the child theme. Only a few files from thew wp=booster folder will work from the child theme. Here is a list of files that work: https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/ – td_module.php is not among them. Sorry
Thanks.
Hi Bogdan and thanks for the answer.
I have tried to disable all my plugins except visual composer but it changes nothing.
I can’t clear the cache for my website because I don’t have a cache plugin installed.
I have no js optimization tools on my site and no child theme that can affect the theme js…
I have checked your site and the zoom effect is completely disabled from your site. You can see the loading animation and then when you hover over the posts in the big grid nothing happens.
This is on chrome. On Firefox it behaves as you describe. This could be a plugin conflict so please disable all plugins except visual composer, clear cache and reset cdn files if you use it. Also make sure you do not use any js optimization tools or a child theme that can affect the theme js.
Let us know if you still have trouble with this.
Thank you!
Hello bz,
Yes, you can try to use the child theme for overwriting the code in functions.php file. For more information about our child theme support, please consult here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/
Thanks for the message!
Hello kanana,
Unfortunately, the td_module_single_base.php can not be overwritten in child theme because this type of files is part of wp_booster which is the core theme, sorry! For more information about child theme support, please consult here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/
Thanks for your understanding!
No idea; I don’t work here; and don’t use child themes anymore for anything 😉

Thank you, Chris. That did the trick.
What are the chances of moving this functionality to the child-theme’s functions.php in the future?
Thanks Catalin! It works.
I change this if (get_post_format($this->post->ID) == 'video') { to if (get_post_format($this->post->ID) == 'xxxx') and it works.
One more question. Could i add this modification to the child theme? and if yes, i have to enable the child theme in wordpress dashboard? Or it is not necessary?
Hello,
I’ve read the official WooThemes documentation about changing the “Add to cart” button text and I’ve added the snippet there to the Newspaper-child functions.php. However, the the text on the website still remains the same.
Is there something specific to the Newspaper theme that needs to be adjusted as well?
Using WordPress 4.6.1 and WooCommerce 2.6.4, Newspaper 7.4
I’d appreciate your help!
Hello Federico909,
The child theme is only for PHP modifications and not from custom CSS. For your custom code, please notice that our theme has a special field for this, like this -> http://screencast.com/t/5nlrPZV8DJZp
For more information about child theme support, please consult here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/
Thanks for your understanding!
Hello,
Please update your child theme as the main reason why anything does not work when a child theme is activated is that it;s not been updated. You need to update the code in your child theme as well because there is no update proof method of customizing the theme files. Please check this topic:
Thank you!
Hello,
Unfortunately there is no update proof method of altering the theme files. Code gets updated and if you keep old files in your child theme and the theme requires the new code but you feed the old one through your child theme…what do you think will happen? Yeah, the site will break. The child theme must be updated as well if the code you modified gets updated.

Hello,
Why the custom css works only in the theme panel and don’t work in the child theme that i have upload’ (the child theme that i have upload i the same folder there are present in the folder code)
Thanks
Hello,
The files are the same. The tracking code should be added in the same files. Parts of the code got moved and some got removed and some parts added in. Code gets optimized on each update but the file structure remains the same. Header and footer.php are requirements for every theme so they will not get removed. The head and body tag will always be located in the header.php file
Maybe you have them set through the child theme. We also recommend updating the child theme as well. Please read this topic for an explanation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/setting-up-child-theme/
Thank you!
Hello,
i have bought the newspaper theme but in the zip there isn’t a child theme, how can i create the child theme of newspaper?
Hello tkumabe,
Please ensure that you are using the latest version of the theme with the latest version of required plugins which come bundled with it. If you are using the child theme, please try to switch the theme to the main one, without any additional customizations. Please notice that the theme uses the footer in full width and the header also. The layout of the theme will be switched to the boxed mode if you will have added a background and that’s why the header and the footer will be boxed. If you will rule out this, the layout of theme should have to be normal, in full mode.
You can provide your website so I can inspect it and so I will be able to provide a more accurate response.
Thanks.
Hello,
I suspect this issue comes from your child theme. Please disable the child theme and check your site again. If the problem goes away, make sure you update your child theme as well. A child theme is not update proof.
Please read this topic: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/setting-up-child-theme/
You can find a child theme in the main theme archive you download from envato.
Thank you!
Hello,
The child theme is the source of all your problems. There is definitely such a thing as an outdated child theme.
please read this topic to understand how the child theme works: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/setting-up-child-theme/
In the latest version of the theme we removed the mobile theme install from the theme panel as lots of people activated it and did not know what the plugin does. We added installation instructions in the documentation here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-mobile-theme/
You can see if the plugin is active or not if you have the mobile theme settings in the theme panel: http://screencast.com/t/1osEtjytUn or from the plugins section of wordpress.
Thank you!
You need to use a child theme, so that you don’t lose any customisations after an update. http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-themes/how-to-update-a-wordpress-theme-without-losing-customization/
