Very weird issue. The only reason I suspect it is caused by the theme is because if I change the theme, I don’t have the problem.
Ever since I updated to the 1.6 version, all my wordpress pages show completely blank. Nothing, nada. So I first thought it was the permalinks or the .htaccess, so I reset both. Then I thought it was the speed booster plugin, or wprocket, but disabling this didn’t help.
As a last resort I tried the 2015 wordpress theme. When I switch, my pages show fine.
I am running a child theme with one custom function in it, but even if I activate newsmag parent, still blank pages.
Visually I see a blank page, but if I show source, I can see some code there.
I just updated to Newspaper 4.6.2 after activating the child theme of the previous install (3.9.1). Everything seems okay on the visitor side, but I noticed some problems with the theme panel. Specifically, the Categories and Custom Typography options do not show any dropdown choices. The arrow on the right toggles to open the panel, but then it is just a small white line instead of the full array of choices. For example, I would frequently open a new category to adjust the display view and to hide the category on a post. Now, I cannot do that.
What am I missing?

struggling for this to work in newsmag I found two alternatives I would like to share:
1. Do the same as this,
but add one item to the array named ‘installed_post_types’ with the post-types needed:
‘installed_post_types’=>’post,page’
This approach has the disadvantage of touching the theme source code.
2. This is kind of tricky: create a child-theme and a new folder named ‘override’ or whatever. Copy td_block_mega_menu.php to that folder (Note that this file is internal and is not overriden by the general child theme method described in the documentation). In that copy, change render method to add ‘installed_post_types’ to the array before performing the query as in the previous paragraph.
Now, in your functions.php create a hook for ‘after_setup_theme’. This will be get called after parent newsmag/newspaper theme is finished.
Then you will have to change the api file for the megamenu block, invoking td_api_block::update_key (‘td_block_mega_menu’,’file’,FULLPATHTOMYNEWFILE);
Now when a megamenu is to be created, the overriden file is chosen instead of the core one.
This method is valid for updating some api blocks and files without touching parent theme.
P.D. Forgot to mention, first of all you should add category taxonomy to pages, using a plugin or in child-theme with register_taxonomy_for_object_type

I tried something else because I wanted a full-width slider. I changed the header-style-8.php file and added this code in a separate div:

I saved the header-style-8.php in the child Theme: …/themes/Newsmag-Child/parts/header/header-style-8.php
Unfortunately it doesn’t work. It works ONLY if I modify the same file in the Newsmag theme, not in the child theme. Any idea why this happens?

I also tested this and seems that is an issue with the child theme only files from the root can respond to changes. I added this on our list and it will be fixed soon as possible. Please make your changes to the main theme files until we can provide an accurate answer on this. Sorry for inconvenience!

Using the latest version of Newsmag theme (version 1.6).
I am unsuccessfully trying to override files in /includes/modules directory by copying the file to respective location in child theme. Seems that the module file in child theme is being ignored.
I am able to override files in the root directory and from /parts directory (as described in child theme documentation), but not from /includes/modules. This means that the child and parent theme setup should be correct.
Is it possible to give hints about what could be the problem?

So, single_template_2.php is not working on child-theme but it is if I edit the one located on father-theme.

For some reason now on version 1.6 it is not working. I’m using child-theme, and loop-single-7.php (to change date format on post template 7) is working perfectly but single_template_2.php is not. I think it is because the relocation of more and more files to wp_booster directory (override the original file when using Speed Booster, my case), which I have to say is not child-theme friendly.
I searched on wp_booster to find the file I should edit to get the date format for post template 2, without success. Or should I try to edit the file (single_template_2.php) on the father-theme to see if it works?

I’m using Header Style 3 (full width logo + menu)for my homepage and uploaded a 3000×300 logo image. (I want a bigger logo than 300×100)
I’ve also used 3000×300 for mobile logo too, but the display seems too small on the top right corner. Can I make the mobile logo bigger across the header? The website is http://www.konenok.com
Do I have to make changes to css? If so, which files do I need to edit? Or where can I add the code? (I’m using a child theme)

1. Unfortunately there is no changes to order megamenu’s categories. We will try to add this on Newspaper 5.

Engagement on my site is virtually non existent. Suspect it’s because comments box is too far down so website visitors never see it.
To address this problem I’d like to add the comments icon which appears at the top of each post to the bottom of each post just before “Author’s Books” and on the right and at the same time I’d like to make the icon 4x the size of the comments icon at the top of the post and precede it with the words “Click here to leave your comment”
My site is howdoidate.com and I’m using the Newspaper Child Theme.
Can you please tell me how to do this?

I updated as per usual via FTP and it did the same error. CRASH the site gives a completely blank white screen, can’t access front or backend. This the first update that ever did that since using NewsMag. I downgraded my theme back to 1.5 and it completely fixed the issue (and I am also using child theme by the way so I normally just update the main theme with no issues), so something is up with 1.6 somewhere in the codes.
Just for those who tend not to look at changelog, I’ve gone ahead and posted that here, for those who need it — since I was just looking at that myself.
ALSO: suggestion, use my “moving to newsmag” sticky as process for updating theme to minimize the change of “white screen of doom” or the server 500 issue (stupid Visual Composer!!!!) 😉

What about the theme settings? I would like to implement different theme settings?
To be more specific, which files should I copy on the “new” child theme to achieve this?
You can’t run two themes at same time with one install unless you’re running WP multi-user (“WPMU”).
You shouldn’t use child theme for any kind of testing, really, as it’s a redirect.
But yes(!), you could install
wp-content/themes/Newsmag
wp/content/themes/Newsmag2 *
*(edit style.css with new name)
then switch between them after making modifications to each one.
So how do I “clone” the theme? I’m kinda lost since I am currently using the packaged child theme? Should I just upload a Newsmag2 folder on my wp-content/themes/ ?

You are correct, however, that changing the folder, and changing the style.css file will work. I’ve done it for several sites running the theme.
Won’t work when using child theme, unless you fix that also.
If your wp-config.php file has hard coded link to /themename/ – that would need to be changed (not common).
All your caching on the server needs to be cleared completely likely twice.

How do you remove the meta data for images and author without touching the main theme files. I’m using a child theme. It’s currrently in conflict with Yoast SEO as it already has meta data.
