Hi SR20DETg20girl, if you updated from v9 than it will be need to install/enabled an extra plugin that doesn’t exist on your current version, this plugin is tagDiv Standard Pack to bring the old layout back.
Also, it depends on the WordPress version you have, extra plugins, host settings and many other parameters, but the problem can be identify and we can help you to resolve it, if you agree, then make sure that you have a complete backup for the website and database, only after that update the theme manually using FTP/cPanel and replace the old theme version with the new one, after that update the theme plugins from Newspaper > plugins and also install the tagDiv Standard Pack plugin.
Another important thing is to have set the theme requirements – https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/
Also, if you made the update and the problems persists, pleas contact us via email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide wp-admin and cPanel access.
Thank you!
I also tried making the WordPress in settings German, then from theme panel imported German, clicked save, showed successful and no translations take affect in frontend, this is without active loco translate plugin etc, only as it is.
Then i tried installing loco translate i see that there are default .po .mo german language files and still they don’t take affect in frontend.
I also tried a new fresh installation, even on a different hosting, on a different domain and again using the “TownTalk” prebuilt demo, things like in single post “By:” and others don’t get translated as they should be from the imported language.
Maybe i can send you wordpress and ftp access? Just tell me where to send in order the information to be private.
My site language is Bulgarian though, i mentioned German, just to try with different language.
And yes on fresh installation also comments cannot be opened, even when on post edit it’s ticked on to be able to leave comments, i even tried turning page comments, but nothing.
Perfect, I just send an email to contact@tagdiv.com with the subject: “TagDig Composer hanging while loading”. I’ve included an admin level WP login as well as an FTP user.
Kind of a hack, but have you tried changing the version noted in the style.css file to 3.3 and leave that line in after minification?
E.g., copy the top section into another text file; run style.css through minification service (e.g., https://www.toptal.com/developers/cssminifier ); then when it’s compressed, paste the original top section with theme version info back on top above the ‘single line’ minified code. Change version number to 3.3. Upload via FTP, over-writing the original file.
Anyway— that’s what I would do.
Also, the move from 3.2 to 5x was not so bad. I tried this recently. Site running latest WordPress and PHP 7.4x. Main issue was redoing home page, but making note of blocks before switch; moving any custom CSS to the WordPress customizer outside theme; noting settings for any widgets and footers (copy paste any custom code into text file before upgrade); note the modules used for sidebar. Actually was not too bad. Of course, I’ve only done one of the 8 sites so far, but actually not too bad. If running PHP 5x kinda screwed on multiple levels, though. 🙂
Hello @ashwanibhasin!
Check here the theme requirements: https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/
Deactivate all plugins except tagDiv ones. Also, if you are using a cache plugin, deactivate it, clear all cache, and try again.
Try to install it via FTP: https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Thank you!
if you edit it and not being served latest version, will be caching issue… you can try hard cache clear in chrome.
ftp still best way as you know for sure latest version on server. ver=3.2 is not part of filename but caching control.
I’d love to be able to edit it directly through the editor, but even if I have to do it via FTP… I still need to know which file to edit exactly. Because https://roadtovr.com/wp-content/themes/Newsmag/style.css doesn’t seem to be the correct file.
Best way is to download via FTP to PC, edit in text editor, resave, then reupload, keeping backup copy for changes so you can roll back if you mess something up.
(I don’t work here.)
Hi
we just upload the files via FTP. In theme panel we just set to default or something like sans-serif (I forget). But don’t select any Google font.
Lots of CSS minifiers online, like this:
https://www.toptal.com/developers/cssminifier
basically paste in all the css and then save out to a new style.css then compare file sizes! Good for at least 50kb right there.
Hello @tradersque!
@simchris Thanks for your time.
Yes. Check this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Thank you!
Thats an awesome idea, thanks
Now how do I exactly do this lol
I have access and know how to use, do I just manually unpack those files in place of FTP files currently?
Thanks for your time
I don’t work here; but generally best way to update is via FTP; unpack the ‘all files’ zip, then upload all the plugins (e.g., Tagdiv Composer, etc.) along with updated theme files.
That’s how I do it to avoid wonky gremlin issues!
Hi,
If you want, you can contact our custom work team here, and they can help you update the theme safely: https://tagdiv.com/premium-customization-services/
Here you can find information about the changes that have occurred in each update over time https://tagdiv.com/newspaper/
I recommend that you update the theme manually https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ via FTP/cPanel/File Manager; also if possible, disable extra plugins during the theme update to avoid any problems that may arise and make sure that you have activated the tagDiv Standard pack plugin to keep the website’s look. You can try to update the theme on a staging website. For this version, there is no automatic option for updating.
After you update the theme, you need to update the theme plugins too.
In the worst cases, the settings in the theme panel may be lost (there have been isolated cases); in these cases, after the theme plugins that were previously used are activated, you will have to use a backup for the theme panel -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/import-export-theme-settings/
Thank you!
Hi simchris,
I think I had some information similar to the one mentioned by you (when the theme is updated via FTP to the latest version and it shows in the update section to update even if you already have the latest version), from what I remember most of them solved the situation by making a backup on the site and then pressing the update button in the updates section.
We tried out the latest Newsmag and WordPress versions on PHP 8.2.x, but we haven’t tested them on PHP 8.3 yet.
Thank you!
resolved….
basically, did update via theme panel, rather WP panel > updates > themes
then simply dragged over my FTP copy which has the CSS fixes for generic fonts on top of the “updated” copy.
Solved. Weirdness 🙂
Latest version of WP, and running PHP 8.1x.
Probably some aggressive caching thing in PHP 8.1x behaves differently than 7.4x.
Hi, okay; just updated my beta revamp from 5.4 to 5.4.2 for the security fix.
I am the FTP upload guy; so I don’t update via the theme panel/WP admin. Via FTP I wipe old theme and td-composer folders; then upload new ones so no overwrites and no timeouts on curl and such.
Oddly, under updates > themes, this is showing:
Newsmag
You have version 5.4.2 installed. Update to 5.4.2.
LOL. Say WHAT now? Just for laughs I tried updating the style.css file to 5.4.21 or 5.4.3 and still showed update needed. I don’t want to deactivate and reactivate theme due to settings, although I have custom CSS in the customizer.
Not sure how I’d clear that. I guess I could hit the update button and see what happens, and worst case just upload the FTP version. (Only change I made to CSS file was my usual fix of removing any default fonts like open-sans to move to the more common web-safe font stack.)
Not critical, just an oddity.
Hi,
FTP is ok, please contact us via email and we’ll check it as soon as possible.
Thank you!
Thank you for the reply. Yes I did try disabling all plugins except for the 3 TagDiv plugins:
tagDiv Clous Library
tagDiv Composer
tagDiv Standard Pack
with no luck.
I can definitely set up a temp admin login, however we don’t use Cpanel, but we can set up an FTP login if needed.
Thanks for your mail. I have try to check through FTP plugin folder. I have found two weird things. Please let me know.
These two are found new. and i deleted Wp-Felody folder. But still my issue is same. only one time first time when you visit through mobile. you will redirect. but next time same browser if you visit. it will be normal. This is the issue. Please help me.
Hello,
In most cases, this problem occurs because you have the latest version of WordPress with an older version of the theme.
Please use the last version of WordPress 6.4.2 with the last theme version Newspaper 12.6.3 (if you have a theme version older, then tagDiv Composer does not work) and check to see if the problem persists.
If you need to make an update, before please make a full backup to all files and the database, in case something goes wrong. => https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
Here you can find information about the changes that have occurred in each update over time https://tagdiv.com/newspaper/
I recommend that you update the theme manually https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ via FTP/cPanel/File Manager, also if possible disable extra plugins during the theme update to avoid any problems that may arise and make sure that you have activated the tagDiv Standard pack plugin to keep the website’s look. Also, make sure that all the settings are like in our requirements, please follow the guide carefully: https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/
and please increase all requirements that are lower, and follow all steps.
Also, if the problem persists please check if you do not have a plugin conflict, please deactivate ALL plugins except tagDiv plugins, also if you are using a child theme or cache plugin, deactivate them, clear all cache (also from your browser) and try again.
Let me know the results!
Thank you!
Hi,
Please go to the Plugins, delete the tagdiv plugins, and try to install them from newspaper -> plugins.
Also, you can check this guide to update them via FTP https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-manually-update-wordpress-plugins-via-ftp/
Thank you!
Hi Anamaría, not working either…
I get failed message when trying to update from there.
Please elaborate more on the FTP update that Chris is mentioning 🙂
