You download the theme from your Themeforest account to your PC; unzip, and note all the files/folders. Note the /plugins/ folder.

And again, the theme docs are great place to start:
https://forum.tagdiv.com/newsmag-install-via-ftp/

(( I don’t work here; just being helpful. 🙂 ))

Best way to install is via FTP; or you can upload the theme zip file.
See the ‘how to install’ docs from links right side of page, as good starting point.

Also the ‘how to upload/install’ theme from the main WordPress.org codex/docs.

Try theme docs:
https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/how-to-update-visual-composer/

WordPress docs/codex also useful 🙂

##
if you’re not using a caching plugin on your site, then you won’t need to ‘clear it’ 🙂

Google: what does FTP mean

File Transfer Protocol
FTP is an acronym for File Transfer Protocol. As the name suggests, FTP is used to transfer files between computers on a network. You can use FTP to exchange files between computer accounts, transfer files between an account and a desktop computer, or access online software archives.

@punza
did you do the things suggested in this thread and in the ‘how to upgrade’ page ?

Delete old VC via FTP from plugins folder, and upload the new version via FTP, is best way.

simchris
tagDiv Member

Delete VC via FTP; do clean install of VC via FTP.
Clear cache on site (if used) and in browser.
Resave permalinks from WP settings panel.
Clear all transients with wp-optimize plugin.

Good luck!

If you have an issue with permissions or your WordPress built-in installer times out for some reason, the best way is to use FTP; this allows you to
a) make backup of your site files
b) delete old theme folder
c) upload new clean copy of theme folder

Seriously, best way to always update WordPress themes to not run into this issue of partial/broken installs. Very common with some hosting setups or if your process time settings is too short for PHP, file size uploads too small, etc.

Hello srampia,

Your custom font will have to be loaded to your dedicated server and not only for your computer. Please try to load this to your server through FTP and Cpanel and check the results. For more information about this, please consult here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/font-customization/

Thanks for your understanding!

Hello blake32,

Please try to make a new clean install from scratch with the latest version of the theme and required plugins, via FTP because this is the surest method in this regard. For more information about theme update and Visual Composer, please check here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-visual-composer-plugin/

Hope this helps and let us know how it goes!

Hi,

Please try to disable all other plugins except visual composer, clear cache and reset cdn files Then try to install the mobile theme without any other plugins. If you still cannot manage to install it, use the ftp method by simply extracting the plugin archive and placing the folder in the main wordpres install under wp-content/plugins. Then you only need to activate the plugin.
If this still does not do it, then please contact us via email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide wp-admin so we can login and investigate the issue. Please also include a link to this topic so we can identify you.

Thank you!

Buna,
In aceste cazuri recomandam instalarea temei prin ftp.
Multumesc.

Hello,

The theme does it’s part but it’s not up to the theme to install automatically for you. The automatic processes are created by wordpress or the envato plugin. We cannot be held responsible for other applications that try to install our product. We recommend the FTP method as it’s the safest way of doing it and you do not have to depend on other software for a simple file copy. FTP is as simple as copy and paste. If you know how to copy and paste folders, you know ftp. There is no rocket science involved. WordPress tries to do it automatically but it can cause issues. Even with plugins it sometimes is not able to delete the plugin folder so you uninstall a plugin and try to install it again, and it will say the folder already exists as it was unable to delete it entirely but did not mention this at all. SO In my opinion FTP is essential for WordPress.

Thank you!

Hello Pedro.

Please use the ftp method as the automatic methods can sometimes cause faulty results. Use this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ and choose section A

Thank you!

Hello gwhsjournalism,

Please notice that our theme has been changed quite a lot lately and if you want to migrate your actual theme to the latest version you must mind that you will lose all of your customizations, sorry! Basically, you will have to re-customized all your website on the new theme. First of all, I suggest you doing a full backup to your database and then, you can create another fresh install, on the local server where you can begin to create your own new website with the latest version of the theme and try to adjust every element from the old theme to the newest. For more information about installing theme, please check our documentation here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/

Thanks for your message and good luck. In future, if you want to bring better results with our theme you should keep up with our updates.

Thanks for your understanding!

Hello,

I can see in this Forum that a lot of users have this problem, and I´m sure that most of them (like me) doesn´t know how to work in ftp (that´s why we buy a theme like Newspaper, right?…) So, I think that it is fair that Newspaper solve this problem, because it affects a lot of users that pay a lot of money to have this license.

I expect your commentaries very soon.

Best regards.

Thanks for the replies. I’m pretty stuck here, I tried installed via FTP but when I activated the theme it crashed the site so I had to delete the theme folder and go with a default theme. I was able to find the wp-config file but can’t find the hthaccess.php anywhere.
Unfortunately I don’t have CPanel installed and can only work with wp-admin or FTP
Any help would be really appreciated.

Hi again,

I did everything what you advised. I turn off all plugins apart form VC, install theme via FTP, then switched on WP Super Cache and deleted all caches. I tried it twice, with no result. I still have old fonts from Newspaper in post content.

Marek
