In the previous version of this theme.. the featured image shown at the top of each post had a standard size (700 x357) that was uniform across all posts. I can’t figure out how to do that on Newspaper 6 and now all my posts shows different image sizes at the top of the piece, anyone know how to fix that?
Hi. I can´t find in document whats the recommended sizes of theme images, like featured image, background, blocks and others.
Thank you.
Hello,
There is no ideal size for the background picture. The travel demo uses a size of 1920 x 815 pixels: http://screencast.com/t/2i5pyr9SV
There is also another topic regarding background image sizes here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/background-image-is-driving-me-mad/
I hope this helps.
Thank you!
Hi,
Sorry for delay, we don’t work on weekends!
When you set a featured image, it is cropped for different sizes to be used on modules/block/post styles. The theme uses the add_image_size() function, you could read more about the featured image size here (it’s from Newsmag documentation but the principles are the same) – https://forum.tagdiv.com/image-size/
Thanks!
When I open my website from a twitter link or facebook link using an iPhone app, I get one of the following two errors:
1. The web page is displayed correctly except all my images are missing. Instead of showing an image, the area is just blank (a blank space where an image should have appeared).
2. The web page does not resize itself for mobile. All the content is visible but the images do not resize. All the text resizes as if it were appearing in a mobile window. So what ends happening is you see all the text aligned as if it were in a mobile browser but the images appear huge as if they were in a regular window.
I do not do anything to the settings to cause it go back and forth from the two issues above. I simply close the social media webpage and try to reopen it. Sometimes it I will have the first issue and sometimes I will have second issue but it won’t ever show the webpage correctly.
The website looks perfect if I try to access it on my chrome mobile browser. I was using the “social share and locker premium plugin” with no problems. I disabled it in case it was the cause but that did not resolve my issues.
Please help! This is my website
Im using “Big Grid” but the main image (on the left) doesn’t fit portrait images and leave me with ugly white space. “Big Grid 5” fits portrait images perfectly but the large picture is now on the right and doesn’t show the latest image which just looks odd.
How can a make a new Big Grid that has the layout of Big Grid but the sizes of Big Grid 5?
Hi
There is no ideal size for the feature images but in order to fit the thumb container it should have at least the sizes of thumb’s container, because WordPress doesn’t enlarges images. If you already use bigger images and still have issues with them, try to clear all caches purge cdn files also deactivate the plugins, leave just Visual Composer active, and make sure you regenerated the thumbs after theme’s update, then test again.
Let me know how it goes and if the problem persist please send an email at contact@tagdiv.com with your sites login details and we will inspect this issue, also include a link to this topic.
Thanks!
Thank you, that solved the problem, but I have a new issue because I can not find the right size for the featured image. I have tested with different sizes and the grid always have some trouble. I leave some screenshots here:

Thanks for your reply!
Actually, GTMetrix isn’t suggesting that I just make the images smaller. It’s saying that the images are being displayed at that specified width and height in the <img> tag, but the actual file is bigger and has to be scaled down to that display — which means a few extra kb of image have been downloaded.
The theme does in fact use that size, indirectly: http://www.screencast.com/t/6sIqSW4yk
After poking around, I realized what’s happening. It’s the CSS scaling to different screen sizes that results in these extra dimensions, so GTMetrix must be doing its virtual render on a “screen” less than 1200px wide.
Since the dimensions of these <img> change dynamically after page load, the image file doesn’t get downloaded again for each scaled-down size, nor would we want it to. So this is not really a problem. 🙂
Maybe a documentation note to explain this for anyone looking at the warnings from speed tests like this?
I notice on GTMetrix that some of my images are being scaled:
http://www.screencast.com/t/ORJQnMZA1lbp
These are the ones in my big slider. Those dimensions aren’t available in the theme panel, but are apparently being used by the theme… Should I add these image sizes manually in my child theme functions?
Thanks!
Hi, I’ve sent logos with all the sizes listed but it always loads the image with 272px of width and the resolutions gets terribly low. Someone knows what to do?
[ Version 6.4 ]
blog_post: http://tagdiv.com/newspaper-6-4-update/
– new: smart list with pagination
– new: this is the first version of our ajax preloader. The preloader loads the ajax subcategories on the initial pageload, this provides a better user experience and in some cases a better performance if the initial page is cache.
– new: all categories now have an option for infinite loading + load more instead of pagination
– new: 2 new smart lists templates (smart list 6 and 7)
– new: 2 new ad spots used for smart lists (smart list 6 and 7)
– new: 2 new post style template (style 12, 13)
– new: demo – Travel

– fix: default and custom ad size not working for tablet landscape
– fix: on the ad block the sidebar ad spot cannot be selected since the last visual composer update
– fix: IMPORTANT security issue with the ajax code that handles the sidebars.
– fix: issue with ajax subcategories. If you clicked them fast enough there was a chance that they will desynchronized with the content, showing the wrong content.
– fix: block 18 css fix for large image sizes
– improvement: a big part of the themes JavaScript now passes jsHint and complies to WordPress JavaScript Coding standards
– improvement: mega menu ajax loading now works smoother and the animation is top to bottom
– improvement: infinite loader now has a loading animation
– improvement: we improved the loading animation, when needed it’s smaller and it looks better
– improvement: added link to user page on login widget from top menu
hi guys
I have upgrade from 4 to 6 and have run the upgrade script with no problems. Then I ran the thumbnail regeneration as instructed but as I have 9 years worth of images (around 65,000) the process generated about 50GB of newly resized images and my site fell over!
Do I really need all those different sizes? Can you advise what to do please as going back to a restore of the uploads folder prior to running the plug in means I seem to have a lot of missing images (or rather sizes).
thanks
Andrew
Hi
1. The banners provided with the theme are just examples, and they are recommended sizes to be used for header, sidebar image banners. You can create your own banner size if you like, and use them according to our documentation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/header-ad/ To add your banner ad just replace in theme ad spots the url with your banner source url: http://screencast.com/t/YBexMUCv
In case you’re using adsense code the dimension are available in theme panel > ads: http://screencast.com/t/VpmwYojnhy
2. The theme doesn’t have an option to slide the banners, but you can try a plugin like AdRotate to achieve that functionality.
Let me know how it goes!
Thanks!
Hi,
When you add an image WordPress automatically creates a thumb for each module the theme uses so, besides WordPress”s, we have added new image sizes in config file(above screenshot) and the crop mode is center-top, you can read more about this here- http://www.davidtan.org/wordpress-hard-crop-vs-soft-crop-difference-comparison-example/ Also the demo images are cropped on your site – http://screencast.com/t/wWLdOxCfhj The only way to find out what image aspect ratio is better for you to use is to do some tests, depending what blocks/modules you use most add an image more nearest with aspect ratio of the thumbs in which you want it to look well. You can read more about aspect ratio here – http://digital-photography-school.com/aspect-ratio-what-it-is-and-why-it-matters/
Also I have checked you search page and you use module 16. All modules use a specific thumbnail as you can see in the code and in panel when you activate thumbnails on modules/blocks – http://screencast.com/t/9pNqiUyim6 but module 16 use wordpress thumbnail size(150×150) – http://screencast.com/t/n2iF1dLiUF2w – http://screencast.com/t/zsEphxbv
Thanks!
Thanks!
One thing I noticed – in the theme panel it says 696×385 is used for the 2 column slider but when I check on the site it uses a 640×385 image. I looked on the server and can’t find 696×385 size images. Can it be it is making the image in 640×385 and if so do you have a fix?
I’m switching off some of the thumbnail sizes as we have 55,000+ images in the media library and creating 20 thumbnails for each image will take very long and take up a lot of space.
Hi,
td-a-rec-id-custom_ad_5 is a class not an ID so please use this custom css:
.td-a-rec-id-custom_ad_5 {
margin-bottom: 0 !important;
}
Please try this solution – https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/how-can-i-add-thumb-sizes-to-dropdown-list-where-you-choose-image-size/
Thanks!
Try clearing your caches, CDN expirations, etc.
Use the “regenerate thumbnails” plugin to create thumbs to fit this theme’s layout/sizes.
I don’t think all the photos from the demo are included as they may be royalty images which require a license; not sure.
Thanks, I found problem was the old functions.php file had some image sizes from old theme. Just had to remove the code and resize the thumbs.
I notice with the demo images you can install that they are a wide variety of shapes and sizes.
Within Big Grid 1, the main article thumbnail and the 4 others have different height:width ratios.
I notice that Block 2 and 16 are also different from the above.
Are there image dimensions you can suggest that should work properly?
I have images with text centred in them that can’t really be used because they only centre properly in one of the three different situations above.
Thank you.
Hello, I updated to Newspaper 6 from Newspaper 4. From what I can see, all of the “art-x” image sizes are no longer used and now deprecated yet my wordpress is still creating files of those sizes every time I upload an image. Is it safe to remove all of those?
So my company logo is huge, I want to make it fit right. But whenever I upload the image, the theme resizes it to a 272px/90px dimension which is really annoying. I want to know how change that through child-theme. This is really urgent. Please reply as soon as possible.
Thanks.
Forgive me if I’m completely missing this in the documentation, but I’d like to set specified dimensions on the featured image per post. I did not see anything in the docs regarding which dimensions should be used for each Post Style.
Now that you mention the regeneration of thumbnails. With my old theme, the size of my website was 1GB more or less. Now it’s over 4GB, because Newspaper requires so many different sizes of images.
Thanks Alin,
1. Ads then use custom 1-5 (I can add adrotate widgets to Newspaper 6 sidebar though too? Any widget can go in your sidebar?
2.
I’ve done that just as you asked:
Deactivated all plugins – cleared all caches
Activated one by one – Result EWWW Image Optimizer causes the class errors (I have left it deactivated but installed) I’m sure I can use an alternative plugin to manage media upload minimise sizes.
Could you look at some CSS for me? Need no ads anywhere at all on ‘All listings’ ‘For rent’ ‘For sale’ and the ‘single listing’ quality
Sorry for the trouble but really want to use theme and the ad thing is a problem for the Real Estate advertisers. You can see how it’s worked on westbridgfordwire.com/for-rent/ with this css from theme author below: I tried the CSS from the WP-Prosperity author below in Newspaper 6 but it wouldn’t do anything
body.single-properties .banner-ad { display:none !important; }
So in the current ‘live’ theme there’s a tick box for remove all ads (I know you don’t have that no worries) – and additional custom CSS to remove header ad
Best wishes
Pat
