I think I fixed it, I updated the theme with envato wordpress toolkit and now I can see it.
I just downloaded and installed the Newspaper theme for my wordpress site. However there are some problems, the Theme Panel f.ex. doesn’t work. When I select it (in the menu) it is coloured red, like it hasn’t been installed properly. When I open it, all the menus are grey and do nothing and the pictures don’t load. Is this a known issue and how do I fix it?
Also one of the required plugins, WPBakery Visual Composer, needs an update, but when I go to the udpate page it asks me to pay 28 dollars for it. What? Could that be causing the problem?
Tried it all, doesn’t work. I tried adding a similar component on another page via the presentation > widget sidebar but the same “frozen” articles appear and i’ve checked the views: some of them have 0 views in the past 2 weeks so it’s definetely frozen.
I guess it might be something about a plugin but wouldn’t it probably mess other sorting criteria (eg. the latest articles sorting option works fine, even after the update, this problem is restricted to the 7 day sorting issue).
I think i’ll have to remove this content which is a pitty since it was working fine before the update. Let me know if you find any other reason for this, for the time being i will just remove the 7 day sorting content, hoping that at least in a future theme update it get’s back to working properly as it did before.

Regarding the theme update..i downloaded the wordpress zip file and when i tried to install, it said install failed becuase directory exists. why isnt there a way to update without needing to uninstall the current? I dont want to lose all my customization.

As I’ve also stated at first a host setting could be the reason for this as I couldn’t recreate this on my side. Please let us know when you have an answer from your host provider and, if possible give us wp-access so we van have a look at this and send your wp-admin login credentials via email at contact@tagdiv.com and include in your message a link to this conversation.
Related to the issue you have with those extra images added to your media library I’m not sure how that happens but the theme doesn’t suppose to do that and you’re right this is not a normal behavior.
Basically the theme creates thumbs which are used on blocks or modules or sliders and stores them in the ../wp-content/uploads folder not in media library.
The suggestion to disable the thumbs from theme panel was to save your host resources and so the theme doesn’t create unnecessary thumbs if you decide not to use some blocks/modules/sliders..
You can find all thumbs created, their dimensions and the blocks/modules.. on which they are used in theme panel > block settings > thumbs on modules an blocks.
We also know about the youtube link in excerpt, we have this on our todo list and will try to fix it in the next theme update, until then you can use the excerpt filed form posts editing panel to set a custom excerpt for posts that have this issue: http://screencast.com/t/s5UnkrMV

The image for homepage post block(post template 6) use javascript and you will need custom work for this and it is not an easy task to add link like on the title. The VC drag & drop issues was reported in previous version of VC plugin and when used with WordPress 4.1 version so if you don’t use the latest version of WordPress (4.1.1) please update it and also update the VC plugin to the latest version (4.4.2).
Download the latest theme version from themeforest: http://themeforest.net/downloads ..the latest version of the VC plugin is included within theme’s files in the /plugins folder. Unfortunately there is no option to do this. You will need custom modification for this, as I’m not sure how you can sort articles by category, more accurate to group posts from the same category and sort them by: http://codex.wordpress.org/Class_Reference/WP_Query#Order_.26_Orderby_Parameters I think that you have to do that for each category and is not an easy task, you can hire a professional to do that, as we cannot provide custom work at this time as we work on updates/development and support.

Thanks on the input. I still haven’t moved on the CSS part because unfortunately i activated the post view count and nothing seems to impact the 7 day sorted list.
You can check it on the same right side component on my hopepage http://goalpoint.pt/ under the tab “+ Lidos (7 dias)” on the right of the “FUN” component. The view counting is working OK but it doesn’t seem to affect the frozen 7 day list that has been like that ever since i updated the theme.
I tried removing and reinserting the component but with no sucess. Any other hint on how i can “reboot” that list and make it work effectively?

Yes, you are right the rtl support will be removed in next version, however this issue doesn’t concerns just rtl users and the option to set the sidebar on the left will not be removed.
Unfortunately we can’t make an update for this but I’ll let you know when we have a fox for this.

Yes, the latest version of the speed booster plugin is 3.2 which should work fine. Do you still experience this ad I’ve checked your site and haven’t seen this behavior. I suggest you update your theme also to the latest version which is 4.6.2.

Yeah. I have that issue notably with Internet Explorer; less so with Chrome on Windows 7/64.
The trick I’ve found with that is to do ‘save’ on right side to update, then try again, and if it spins, hit save. Then if it shows up, then go to edit.
Stupid I know. Went through this same issue over the weekend with migrating site to Newsmag from Woo Canvas. Basically it’s the Visual Composer uses a bit of memory, and since it’s all ajax based and uses WP “transient” settings, seems like browser runs out of something.
And I’m on a Mac Pro with 32GB of RAM, running Windows in 64 bit – what memory am I running out of ? 🙂
So try this:
1) clear your browser temp files/cache.
2) try the “save” button right side before doing ANYTHING.
3) if it spins and spins, try save changes; then if it drops into the slot in the preview, then click the pencil icon to EDIT it once it’s there.

I updated to the latest Newspaper 4.6.2 and then updated Visual Composer plugin with the zip file that comes with theme package as indicated in the update guide, but when I tried to activate the plugin I get a blank page.
And all admin pages are blank too.
I recover access to admin section and activated all the plugings that were previously working, but when I activate the VC plugin the same blank page happen. All the installed plugins work well together, except the when the VC is activated.

For those who want to set a custom time stamp under post titles, on post pages and in modules (it’s all or nothing unless you want to hack templates):
This fix survives theme updates as it’s a WordPress setting – not a theme setting.

Best bet is to have ONE file, so it is one less file for browser to load; however you should minify it to load faster.
The flash of unstyled text is more often from the custom CSS, and you can often fix THAT by actually editing the CSS in style.css vs adding bunches of things to custom.css panel.
Just make a record of WHAT you change to reapply with future theme updates.

As an update on this please note within the latest theme version we have changed the child theme system (for which we will have a documentation available soon) and because of that at the moment module files can’t be overwritten via child theme.

1-2-4-5 Unfortunately there is no option to do this, smartlist overwrite image settings and for the moment is not possible. We plan to add a new format for the smart lists in a future update and to have more control to the smartlist, but I cannot say when it’s going to be implemented, we have a lot of features on the list and we have to take them in the order of priority.
3. Smartlist 2 and 4 were designed to use font size 12px, so you will need to use custom css for them. Sorry for inconveniece!
