Yes, that is normal. The size of the font used in the admin panel is not the same as you might have on the website, and the theme is responsive, so the “actual” width will vary as far as word-wrap.

Again, the visual editor is not a “what you see is what you get” editor like you have in print publishing; it’s an “approximation” … it’s not “pixel accurate” … partially because the WordPress admin uses CSS from WordPress, while the actual page uses CSS from the theme.

So, the value in the visual editor is in doing elements like alignment, pre-viewing photos and videos, or MP3 audio, bolds, italics and other “presentation formatting” … but it is *not* a 1:1 view of the actual page. This is true of WordPress and always has been.

So, in your last example, it’s working correctly. You cannot manage exactly where line breaks are, or word-wrapping as the font and kerning, and so forth may vary based on the device being used.

So, on one device you might have 7 words, another 6 words and the 7th word goes to next line due to letter spacing, kerning, and the space between letters (not to date myself here, but I went to Compugraphic Typesetting school in 1985… so kind of savvy on font issues).

Upshot; based on your screen shots above… you’re just fine. 🙂

@kronos Thanks a lot. I tried and it looks as expected. The problem with this method is that it inserts short-codes in the post bodies and if we decide on changing themes in future, there will be a lot of ugly shortcodes visible to users (due to the WP Bakery Visual Composer) So a theme template will be a preferred solution. We burned ourselves before by depending too much on plugin based feature. That said your suggestion does help a lot.

I’m running two Apple 24-inch cinema displays at 1900×1200 but my issues are slightly different from yours. I only use the visual editor when pasting in MS Word files for articles. The rest of the time I use the text editor as I need to be able to manually enter a div class, or whatever. My issues are where something is conflicting even with the simple use of a <br> tag in the text editor, and <p> tags don’t seem to work either. I can only line this up with the visual editor bleed-over for the whole post page. And of course I could be totally wrong. But, on a WooCanvas site I am using <br> and <p> tags and they all behave as expected; not with Newsmag.

CORRECTION: I am NOT having this issue on my sites which use NEWSMAG and do not have WooCommerce running. I just tested that. Some element of the visual editor code is conflicting with the WooCommerce post page, likely due to the extra meta boxes added by WooCommerce. So, this seems to impact pages, posts, and products.

Weird thing is there is no console error on the pages themselves, so it’s totally a back-end thing.

Will be happy to help debug this for WooCommerce, but I realize this is different issue than what @daimpa is experiencing. Suggestion to @daimpa …. do a screen capture video showing the issue, if possible to best illustrate the situation. In my case I will experiment with turning some things on/off with WooCommerce to sort out what is causing my problem as well as the http element not loading via https in the visual editor page. I have separate ticket for this – and apologize for polluting this thread. 🙂

MegaMenu also has a feature to embed a page as part of the menu for a custom look:

I need to put a lot of automakers in the submenu and the way MegaMenu would typically do a vertical list for sub-menu items doesn’t work for me. This is functionality provided by the plugin itself.

When you use this functionality in conjunction with a page developed with Visual Composer and you are browsing a bbPress forum, you get the above broken sub-menu.

I’d start by disabling plugins. I had the same issue due to a plugin conflict with Themewich shortcodes. About the only one I can tell you is not causing your issue is Easy Social Share Buttons (I use that plugin on this theme without any issues). I’d be surprised if the Thrive Visual Editor plugin isn’t causing you some problems, though. Check them all.

You can do that with Visual Composer. Go to Settings > Visual Composer and turn it on for Posts. Then, on the posts you want centered like that, turn off the sidebar and go into the VC backend editor, change the row layout to 1/4 + 1/2 + 1/4 and use a text block in the center column. If that’s too narrow, just remember the row layout is any combination using fractions larger than 1/12. So 1/8 + 6/8 + 1/8 would give you a wider center column for text than 1/4 + 1/2 + 1/4.

It won’t allow you to go full-width with images throughout the post, as in your example, but that’s because this is a newspaper/magazine theme and that feature is more creative or photography.

But it will produce the desired layout without much effort and no coding. Play around with it a bit.

Have not been able to determine what is loading via http when switching to visual editor on post or product pages. Everything on the site uses forced 301 redirect for any http requests, so nothing can load via http on our domain; however the admin panel is loading

Oddly Newspaper theme running in different folder on same domain, doesn’t throw any error when editing post in visual mode.

Might be a WooCommerce thing. I will have to try that next.

Taking a look at that so far, I would say it should do what is may say it does, but also some problems noted in the comments from users where people can still detect things, so may have limited value. It seems cheap enough, and if you’re more interested in that vs theme features, why not buy it and try it.

Also note if you’re using Visual Composer, you would likely not be able to hide that fully, and I see some issues from their support with things like contact forms.

I’m also doubtful that the tagdiv speed booster will work with that plugin.

What we do to hide a lot of WP stuff is using Yoast to hide some stuff, but then we run mod_pagspeed which hides all comments, we hide the versioning via functions.php, and we remove the pingback script. In most cases we also move the uploads folder. So, you might hide all the other stuff and people could still search for sites with xmlrpc.php or license.txt — did you remove that already? How about readme.html ? Is that still on your site?

There is also some bbpress style sheet data and woocommerce code you likely would need to manually remove from the functions and td booster functions.

There is no “one click” or “one plugin” way to fully hide WordPress. People who want to hack your site could likely figure it out through various methods. However, it’s better to concentrate on other security measures and only use highly validated plugins and code, vs trying to fully hide use of WP. With all the VIP sites now running WP (time magazine!), etc., there are much bigger fish in the sea than there used to be.

I would advise “caution” on a live site.

On a test site, why not just try it out ?

Depends on old theme vs new theme ….. obviously.

If you look at a snapshot of your old theme post page layout, count how many queries are being done for each section of the page. Do the same with the new theme.

For example on one of our sites, we changed the sidebar module to NOT show thumbnails with each item on the “latest items” list. We chose not to use megamenu. Etc.

Themes are not apples to apples unless identical layout and number of queries per page.

Visual Composer does add some overhead, sadly. But caching and mod_pagespeed, etc. help with that.

Not sure if that helped in any way, just some food for thought 🙂

I has used the “homepage – with background” template. Theres not the Big Slider on the visual editor.
