The author’s posts and comments counters are based on the user ID – http://screencast.com/t/xVW9dstV This could happen only if it doesn’t return the user id, so it displays the total posts from your site and it takes all the comments from your database(if you had comments they are saved in the database, even if now they are disabled).
I cannot provide you an exact answer why this happens but like I said above I suspect that it is related to the author id or also the plugin may affect this.

Please regenerate your thumbnails – https://forum.tagdiv.com/using-the-theme-with-existing-content/ it should fix this issue.
This was a major update as the Newspaper 6 is practically a new theme, all the code was rewritten. You should not have now any issues with the new versions of the theme, we will just add new features, some fixes that should not create any issues. It will not be any major changes to the theme code in the near future.

Unfortunately the theme doesn’t have an option to add more inline ads, you will need custom modifications for this and it is not so easy. The latest version of Visual Composer was tested only with Newspaper 6.
Regarding you custom page template, you can create your own page template in the root of the theme and copy the code from page.php(default template) and just add this comment instead – http://screencast.com/t/UdDaIQhr It should appear on template options – http://screencast.com/t/cONiVSlbjH7 Then add your custom modification to the code.

You can register a new menu and use it, but you need to alter the code and if you don’t have basic knowledge I suggest to hire a freelancer to do it for you as we cannot provide custom work.

Unfortunately the javascript file cannot be overwritten via child theme and you will have to make this change in the main theme. I have added this on our list, maybe we will find a better implementation for aspect ratio(black borders).
