I am not sure what you mean but the demo from here http://screencast.com/t/GhZPOL0QY are made with the same theme as a guide to help the user to create his own pages and posts. If you already have your own content, it’s not necessary to install a demo, because the demo pages will be published automatically, and the theme works fine without any demo installed. You can uninstall the demo to remove the imported pages from your site.

Newspaper 6 must be regarded like a new theme and before update you should consider the following aspects:

– backup your current theme/WordPress/database: https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups
– empty all caches/purge files if you also use CDN host then disable any services of this type until you switch to the new theme
– setup a maintenance mode (if your site is live) and you can use a plugin for that
– disable all plugins
– install the theme then install the required plugins
– switch back the rest of the plugins and start other services

Also you can check our documentation here – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ Notice that it’s important to back up your site, in case something goes wrong, you can get back at the previous theme version.
If you have any custom modification in the code or custom css will not work in version 6 of the theme.

When you purchase the theme from themeforest, the version you get is always the last one meaning when a new product it’s released the previous version it’s replaced and the user have the option to update. We still offer support for user who are using Newspaper 4 but setting up the site means custom work and we cannot offer it as we work hard on the development, updates, fixes and support. First you have to get the page id where you want to hide the number in smart list and to do that you can go to All Posts in wordpres and hover over the post. The id will be displayed at the bottom of the page like here:

Try to deactivate all plugins except Visual Composer, clear the cache and test again. Also I found this errors on your site: http://screencast.com/t/9R1UscOhH8 that can be caused by some plugins that conflict with the javascript from the theme. and see if you still have this issue.
