There are 3 menus on our site. top bar menu, a header menu and a footer menu. Please make sure you did not set the menu to the footer or that your menu has elements in it. If you create an empty menu, then nothing will show.

Are you installing the demo content as well? or just he demo style without content?
A demo usually just applies the style if demo content is not selected. You will have to create your own layout. please edit the page you get and add content to it or install the demo content if you have not already.

The colors you mention can only be changed with custom css as there is no setting for them. Please use this code for the ajax filter (menu):
.td-subcat-filter .td-subcat-list a, .td-subcat-filter .td-subcat-dropdown span, .td-subcat-filter .td-subcat-dropdown .td-subcat-more i{
color:black!important
}
And for the excerpts, please use this code:
.td-excerpt{

Unfortunately our theme has no such options so maybe you can find a plugin that can provide a feature like this. I cannot make any suggestions though as we have not tested any. Please test to see if other settings from the theme panel are also affected. Try to change a few things in the panel to test it out and if other settings are affected. If this is the case, please disable all plugins except visual composer, clear cache and reset cdn files. Then test the panel again.

If you use WordPress 4.5 and an older version of visual composer (under 4.11) then this is the result. There was a conflict between the plugin and wordpress but has since then been fixed. I’m not sure what happened as we have no reports of this. Maybe the update process did not go as planned or there was a plugin installed for image optimization that conflicted when updating. It’s hard to say for sure. Good thing you figured it out though and fixed the issue.

The “ads” you mentioned are not actual ads but rather widgets made wither custom in html or with plugins. Our theme has no such options so you can maybe find a plugin that does this or simply create them in html if you have the proper coding skills.
The first one is a simple bullet list with links added to it.
The second one could be a plugin though.
