Ok – I hope you can create an imitation of this soon.

Ok, I have fixed this by enclosing Google code within

<div style=”width:320px”>

</div>

as you advise in another forum reply.

Thanks

Ok, Calin – I’ll check with Leaky Paywall see if they have a solution. I would be good if Newspaper could include a paywall option.

Further to this, the same Google code works fine in Theme Panel ad spaces. So the code is active and good. Can Google code not work in Single Post Templates? I have spent many hours laboriously customising a template in order to be able to place ads better than in the themes Style 1 but it doesn’t seem so easy…

This method also entails more work – one would have to set featured image in the post (or none will show on category pages or modules) and manually set and size the same image left-aligned at top of every post. Not great, and some way from Newspaper’s claim to make content creation easier.

Mark Gilbert

I got round this to some extent by making a two-column row above the post content block and putting feature image in left column and author, date, review rating etc in the right column. But it’s a tedious workround and absolutely still not ideal, leaves loads of white space on right of pic.

Newspaper needs to do the obvious thing and create a Pro single template based on Style 1 so those who like Style 1 (my site’s got 1500+ articles in Style 1) can also get continuous scrolling and in-article ad placement.

Mark Gilbert

Why don’t you create a Style 1 template? It’s an obvious need, a popular and common design. A fault of Newspaper is its obsession with images, usually too large…

I’m struggling with this – quote system here seems a complete mess. Quotes are an important style feature and it really should be smoother. Do custom post templates offer more range and less clunky interface? Right now, I can’t remove a left quote in Classic Block deleting a par. It’s become integrated with the par.

Thanks – I had missed the Block Setting and it now works.

However, I have Show Author Name turned on in Meta Info but no authors’ names are showing in category lists, e.g., here – https://jazzjournal.co.uk/category/reviews/audio-reviews/

I am using M6. I notice author name will appear if I use M4, M5, M8 but not in M6 or M7. Is this a bug?

Mark Gilbert

Thanks, Calin – that worked.

Mark Gilbert

Thanks, Calin – I tried that but then the quote colour and font changes to very small. Maybe there’s an adjustment for that?

This altogether seems a very complicated workaround. I hope a cloud template might offer more streamlined solution – when I get time to work on one.

Well, of course I have reviews set, on about 1000 reviews, like this: https://jazzjournal.co.uk/2020/05/18/trilok-gurtu-god-is-a-drummer/

Mark Gilbert

Yes, but I want the left-aligned quote to go across the whole width of the column, not just half. The same width as the paragraph below, beginning (An étude”…

I think there is some confusion here over what “centred” and “aligned” mean…

Mark Gilbert

Do custom post templates offer more choice of quote style? This is very limited as well as a workaround.

Thanks
MG

Mark Gilbert

But how do you get it to go across the whole column but align left?

The first quote here is aligned left using your advice but only fills half the column: https://jazzjournal.co.uk/2020/05/18/still-clinging-to-the-wreckage-05-20/

I want quotes to go across the full column width, like the 2nd one in the above article, but align left.

Mark Gilbert

Thanks – is that a problem with WP or a Newspaper bug?

Mark Gilbert
tagDiv Member

This is very important – using three column format, where the main content is in centre column, can look good on desktop and tablet. But go to mobile and the first thing the reader sees is the first column content, not the main story. No good!

I have fixed this one instance “39” by going to Inspect Element and changing

<input data-tdc-for=”padding-bottom” name=”” type=”text” value=”52″ class=”tdc-css-box-input tdc-css-box-input-padding-bottom” title=”Css padding-bottom” placeholder=”39″ data-model_id=”c17″ data-param_name=”tdc_css”>

to

<input data-tdc-for=”padding-bottom” name=”” type=”text” value=”52″ class=”tdc-css-box-input tdc-css-box-input-padding-bottom” title=”Css padding-bottom” placeholder=”-” data-model_id=”c17″ data-param_name=”tdc_css”>

but I am not a coder and have no idea what I’m doing. I guess these uneditable placeholders are the problem – but why have they appeared and is there a global fix?

Mark Gilbert

Padding is locked in many other Flex Box 3 across the site.

Mark Gilbert

More – in tablet horizontal view the lower vertical padding is inheriting the padding in desktop view and not changeable. If I change desktop padding, tablet padding changes too and is locked to same padding as desktop.

Have you thought of making a Cloud Library post template that imitates WP Style 1?

Mark Gilbert
tagDiv Member

Ok – can I modify any Cloud Library template to get a standard WP look? Or work from a new blank template? If so? can you advise how?

Mark Gilbert
tagDiv Member

I just want to use Post Settings/Default Site Post Template/Style 1 in Theme Settings, so my posts look same as at present, e.g.: https://jazzjournal.co.uk/2020/04/05/don-vappie-jazz-creole-the-blue-book-of-storyville/

None of the templates seem to have this simple design.

Thanks
MG

Does this only work with a template from the Cloud Library, not standard WordPress post?

Mark Gilbert

Thanks for that clarification – sorry, I copied the URL incomplete to the query above. But on this page – https://forum.tagdiv.com/search/infinite+scroll+posts/ – the same URL as hyperlink – https://tagdiv.com/infinite-loading-for-single-posts/ – goes to page not found…
