Hi Andrei,

I am having the same menu issue as described by everyone else, but I am not running Mega Menus. On any menu button with a child menu, the main menu button does not work on a tablet.

How do I create a main menu item which is not linked to another page, so that I can put the menu item into the child menu instead? When I try to do this, it won’t work because I need to have a link in the menu button.

The URLs are thecarexpert.co.uk (Newsmag) and tcenew.wpengine.com (Newspaper – new site in development).

Many thanks,

stuart

OK, thanks Bogdan. Have a good weekend.

Thanks Andrei. No, I haven’t made any changes. I assume that it is a far more complex situation, just wondering if there was something simple I could change!

Thanks Andrei. I seem to have got rid of them after uninstalling Jetpack.

Thanks Catalin. If you guys are planning a new theme anytime soon, it’s worth keeping in mind. I’d like to have all the features of Newspaper and Newsmag in a wider format (1200px), and I’m sure that plenty of others would as well.

Actually Catalin, I’ve just had another look at that screengrab on a desktop rather than on my iPad, and it looks like the ad you have shown is for a full-width page, not for a page/post with sidebar.

I need to know if I can fit a 728×90 ad into a post (inline) on a post with a sidebar, and it looks like that’s not possible. The images your demos use are all 696px wide.

Or have I got it wrong?

Many thanks,

stuart

Thank you Catalin.

If that’s the case, then it is worth me switching from Newsmag to Newspaper, as I can probably recoup the cost of the theme with a few months’ worth of increased revenue.

You should highlight the ability to include 728×90 inline ads in your demos, as it would be very beneficial to lots of potential customers and potentially get you more sales.

Hi Catalin,

I was having the same problem and have just implemented your fix – working properly now, so thank you.

Can this be made permanent for future versions of Newsmag and Newspaper, or does it bring other problems? My site relies heavily on comments, and many visitors get confused if they don’t get a moderation message so start using the contact form or bbPress and I end up with the same questions over and over.

Thanks,

stuart

Same for me. Showing 0 Facebook likes, but other social networks working fine.

I’m pretty novice when it comes to anything remotely complicated on WordPress, but I managed to update to both Newsmag v2.3 and v2.3.1 easily enough.

Yoast SEO was giving me some grief, but that seemed to sort itself out once I updated the theme to v2.3.1.

Thanks for your help guys. I have been rather busy with work, so will hopefully get time to have a look at this over the weekend.

Yoast has now updated to v3.0.2. I have found this corrects some problems I was having (I can now select sidebars, post styles, etc. which I couldn’t before), but it still doesn’t seem to want to play properly.

Doesn’t like Visual Composer, doesn’t save titles or meta descriptions and the SEO analysis seems broken. I may need to keep on clearing the caches, but so far it doesn’t seem to be helping.

Maybe the inevitable v3.0.3 will sort it out…

Sorry, feeling stupid… Didn’t even look there, was fiddling with custom css.

Thanks 🙂

Absolutely, but I doubt that is what is likely to happen. I have used several themes over the last four years, and researched plenty of others. If you browse the different themes on Envato, you will see plenty of examples of customers who seem to think that they should have some kind of permanent hotline to the developer for personal assistance and customisations. There is also a huge variation in the level of support provided by different developers

Six months should be plenty of time to install your theme and iron out any problems with assistance from the developer, which is what the support is for. If you want to add extra functionality or modify your theme after that, I think it’s reasonable that you should pay for additional direct & personal support from the developer if you need it.

Tagdiv are unlikely to abolish your forum membership after six months, as it provides a valuable community for support, tips and future ideas, and helps them produce better themes. There are plenty of people here who offer their advice and expertise in addition to the theme developers, so it’s doing the developers a favour to have it.

From what I can see on the Envato website, it says 6 months of support from the author. Version updates should be available beyond six months, and I imagine that you will still be able to post issues to this forum beyond six months.

I assume that it’s an attempt to impose a uniform minimum standard on developers to directly support their themes, but that individual developers will be able to guarantee longer support periods if they want to. I also assume that it’s aimed at direct one-on-one support rather than a forum environment like this one.

@andrei_luca If you are considering new post formats for the next update of Newsmag, it would be great to have a post style similar to Styles 4 or 5 (or 6) but with less height. So instead of a featured image size of 1021 x 580 for Style 4, make it something like 1021 x 300ish.

Hi nherious. Yes, get it working again over the weekend thanks to lots of help from the guys at Jetpack. Traced the problem to the Gravatar Hovercard module of Jetpack that was causing a conflict with Newsmag and/or Visual Composer. Once they eventually pinpointed that, everything went back to normal.

Thanks, stuart.

Here is my site, The Car Expert:

http://www.thecarexpert.co.uk

Have used various themes over the last couple of years, but fairly happy with Newsmag. If I was choosing now, I would probably go with Newspaper instead, as I would prefer the wider look. This is mainly for more versatility in displaying ads, as Newsmag column widths are too narrow to display a 728 ad width if you have sidebars.

Other than that, it seems to work well with bbPress and The Events Calendar, both of which I use. If I had more any coding skills I would try and play with some of the single post formatting, but it works very well out of the box.

Cheers,

stuart

Hi iomichele. Dont know if it will help you, but I had a conflict between Jetpack and Newsmag, which was preventing my images from displaying.

In my case, the cause appeared to be the Gravatar Hovercard module of Jetpack. It may be a similar issue for you.

I am still chasing this problem and appear no closer to a solution. I have disabled caching, regenerated thumbnails again, switched off as many plugins as I can without disabling key features, and still I get empty or grey boxes instead of images. Very frustrating.

Further inspection reveals that i can see images when I am logged in as an admin, but when I log out the images disappear.

Thanks.

Hi Andrei,

Not sure if you were replying to eemskrant or me. My site is http://www.thecarexpert.co.uk and I still have no images

Many thanks, stuart.

I’ve had the same issue – can’t work out how to fix it so far. Not just on homepage, but all pages. I have regenerated thumbnails, but that hasn’t helped.
