You could set a custom color just for the Big grid bottom box, with some custom CSS code. Try a code like this for example

It could originate form the Theme panel->Analytics section, if you have entered code there. Please check if that is the case. Analytics code should be inserted in that section between script tags, like this example

Everything should work properly with any version of the theme.
Please try as a test to deactivate all other plugins except the ones included in the theme package, and clear any caching installed.
Check any custom code you might be using in the theme panel, or in the theme files. Switch to the main theme if you use a child theme, as this might be outdated and needs adjustments.
Maybe you can provide some examples of what exactly is not working so we can understand better and try to help you.

Each of the Big grids and blocks that are used to build pages, can be customized how you want. You can control the articles that are displayed in these elements individually.
This is done in the Filter tab of the element

Matched content ads were not really tested with the theme. There are solutions posted on the forum that you could try, if you would like to try and place them on the post pages as well. You could try and use a shortcode to insert them in the post template files for example

It would maybe be easier to use a plugin for this however.
