2. Unfortunately those VC column options don’t work but you can add a custom css class to that row/column you need to hide on mobiles like this: http://screencast.com/t/Y5B0S3wrEcje then use custom css to hide that row on mobiles or the viewport you want like this: http://screencast.com/t/69cIbmxcW
This is the css I’ve used you can set the “ttt” class your self and sue the css below to hide it and place it in theme panel > advanced css on the device you need to hide it.

3. That unfortunately can’t be done easily as the theme isn’t designed to support blocks in the header. Please note that in approximately two weeks the new version of the newspaper theme will be available with more customization options available for the top menu and more header styles from you can chose so you can decide then if you want to design your own header or use a predefined one.

I deactivated all the plugins and still see the large logo on the retina display.
I inspected element and changed the max-height to 90px and it seems to load correctly just like the newsmag demo. Would this be an acceptable solution?

Regarding the icons, I shared your reply with my hosting support team for their help in changing the htaccess and they came back with the below.
I have added in your website .htaccess the directive that was suggested in the article, however as I checked the characters remain unchanged, but via Chrome I am able to see another result:

Are you asking about how to do a Featured Image or setting up your home page with that block?
For the big block on your home page, just use Visual Composer to add the “Big Slide” block. Then just change the settings to your liking.

Regarding the icons showing squares and chinese letters issue I’ve noticed these errors in browser’s console which pointing to theme’s icons fonts: http://screencast.com/t/BXRl080N2b and also noticed you use cdn. This usually happens when loading the font file (which contains those icons) from another host/url like your case of using cdn.
The solution would be to load them from the same url as the site or try this solution – http://webmasters.stackexchange.com/questions/71630/font-blocked-from-loading-by-cross-origin-resource-sharing-policy-no-access-co

I never did any phpadmin thing to my sites on updating Newsmag… ever!
That was a special case. For us, we just had to fix one block that changed, and that wss it; just updated that, resaved home page. Done.
I think the MySQL thing was for folks who had built massive custom pages, categories, etc., using Visual Composer — in our case we only used it for home page and nothing else.

you can upgrade right to 1.71 — just be aware some of the codes on front page changed with Visual Composer and tagdiv blocks. So, you pretty much just need to revisit your home page after update and update/change a couple of blocks if they no longer work. Not too painful. 🙂

I tried to hide some elements/blocks on some devices (mobile phone e.g.) using the “responsive behaviour” menu. The block border becomes white but It does not work. Still all blocks appear on all devices (PC, mobile etc). Why? Regards, Chris

You can change the page template to “Pagebuilder with title” so you will have a h1 title or you can use a text block element anywhere on the page and add the h1 tag via page builder.

The featured image is created from the youtube/vimeo video and it is downloaded by the theme, but it seems that for some videos it can’t download the big thumb image. Also unfortunately WordPress doesn’t enlarge images so you will need to use plugin like Thumbnail Upscale to enlarge thumbnails: https://wordpress.org/plugins/thumbnail-upscale/ For upscale use a combination of plugins Thumbnail Upscale + Force Regenerate.

a)i tried all things your listed options, except “you have to set a featured video”, nothing works.
I dont understand what is meant by “set a featured video”.
Do we have to set every single video imported to the site, to featured image? but this doesn’t make sense.
We use a video robot and it imports different videos from youtube etc.
The index page shows these different videos and they change hourly. In the hundreds.
But still after clicking on them it opens the page but there is no video.
I didn’t set up a single post page. We just installed the theme and child theme as in documentation,
and loaded the settings and demos. http://www.yougothype.com is our page. i hope this is the link you want.

b)Infinite Load doesn’t seem to work on any page.
Again we followed the email steps you sent but they didn’t work.
Our settings:
In Visual Composer for Main Page/Index page:
Parent – Homepage Infinite Scroll
Template- Homepage Blank
Used Block 8
-multiple category filter(hollywood, rides, luxury)
-Random Posts
Limit Post Number-5 (this is set automatically)
Pagination – infinite load is set
(load more was also tried. this shows on page. but when clicked its shows load circle but nothing more is added or changed. so this doesn’t work either. FYI.)
But please help with the Infinite Load.

Well.. note that for a “lot” of folks they are not having this “CPU death” issue. But also a lot are. Also there were a lot of conflicts with VC 4.5 and Yoast SEO.
So, not everybody having this issue. I know Radu has been trading email with the Bakery folks to share this experiences (and my server data presumably).
From what I understand, and might not be accurate their plans are:
a) the shim provides a solution for those of us with the CPU spiral of doom, as stop gap – works fine with VC 4.42 on my box — no problem for short term use at all as long as I’m not getting huge traffic spike ( so I check my CPU usage before messing with it )
b) they want to push Newspaper 5 asap; which has the threads of things from Newsmag (sticky sidebar, more layout options for home page; control over the blocks/images, etc.); and presumably will include VC 4.5.4 or whatever.
c) Newsmag 5 would then be a dev track for possibly building their own page builder that does not use VC at all.
So, there isn’t going to be a “death of TagDiv” or themes not working. Mine are working just fine and no need to upgrade anything “right now” for me. So, only reason I upgraded to 1.71 from 1.6 was for security patches.
But try using your old version of Visual Composer — the issue is with VC not the theme, but there is some bizarre combination of things that our particular server does *not* like at all. So, in my case using the 4.4.2 for short periods does work just fine; quickly tweak, then switch off VC, and huzahhh! I won’t install any VC version newer than that. Period. Luckily I’m not using VC for posts or pages; only the HOME PAGE … so in my case unless home page getting whacked, usually not big issue. I also have the addition in my functions.php to NOT load VC code on post pages.
So, delete new version of VC you installed;
reinstall older version of VC (any 4.4x version should work in theory)
leave shim active
turn on VC, and edit your page/layout.
Obviously you should be deactivating any caching stuff while messing with VC changes.
Anyway… mine is working ….

Theme Ad system was designed to work with adsense code and make it responsive for different screen sizes, just paste the code in Theme Panel > Ads and use Ad Box block to display ad in page(or/and widgets for sidebar) – http://screencast.com/t/vBqCTfiOz4 – http://screencast.com/t/SnDcNCb5BIQu Those divs are recommended for non-adsense and non-responsive code. You can also try a plugin if you think that it will help more, many users are using AdRotate or Simple Ads Manager especially for rotate banners as the theme doesn’t have such of feature.
