I understand that updating a theme can be difficult, but should it necessitate rebuilding the website?
We used your theme and page builder in confidence that moving forward TagDiv would continue to support those tools. We complained about speed, but were told that it was just us. We used the tools you provided, which you apparently now want us to stop using.
Now we (and many others) are faced with the following (and please correct me if I am wrong):
1) If we have used TagDiv Composer to build our site, we will have to rebuild any pages, headers or templates under the new theme because the short codes are put right into the text. For many, that is essentially rebuilding their entire website!
2) If we do not want to see all of the TadDiv short codes from Composer, we must use the Standard Plugin, which essentially returns the site to 9.8 compatibility and the same old CPU/speed problems.
3) I cannot see (and I have looked) how upgrading to 10 from 9.8 would benefit someone currently using your theme? There is no comparison on your website to show the benefits of the upgrade.There is nothing to recommend updating except the dubious honor of rebuilding your website.
Are there major security patches?
Is it needed for 5.3 compatibility?
Will 9.8 continue to receive security/other patches?
4) TagDiv Newspaper 9 is not a fast theme, there is unneeded JS running creating CPU cycles where there doesn’t need to be. The code just isn’t clean. This may be due to legacy code but I’ve had conversations with TagDiv before this related to speed and was always assured that the theme was fast, it was just my site was slower. Now I will quote the truth from your website:
Deactivate Standard Pack for blazing fast-websites. To gain page loading speed for your website, you’ll need to deactivate the Standard Pack plugin. This step will separate the templates (pages, singles, headers, footer) you’ve created or imported from the tagDiv Cloud Library from the ones built inside the Newspaper theme panel. All of the default templates from the theme and some of the elements from the tagDiv Composer will be disabled by deactivating the Standard Pack.
5) So, by running the standard pack we are negating any reason to update. The 9 theme was causing websites to be slower and by deactivating all of those features you spent so much time creating and selling to us in 9, we essentially slowed our sites down. The solution? Upgrade to 10 and turn off the Standard Pack Plugin. Which brings up the following…
4) Deactivating the Standard Pack plugin will cause any site that has modified any part of the Newspaper theme using the TagDiv Composer to show up as short codes and break the site completely.
I will again quote from your site:
For example, your website uses one of the default headers from the theme panel, and you deactivate the Standard Pack, your header will be displayed as a series of text and symbols on the frontend.
Guys, you screwed up. It’s pretty obvious to those of us who used your theme and if you can’t see it then that’s on you, and your inability to remain customer focused and customer centric.
• In 9 you introduced a bunch of cool toys, showed us how to use them and set us loose.
• These toys introduced a bunch of extra code that slowly but surely slowed our sites and caused excessive CPU cycles on our servers. (for those of us who pay for SPU usage, this not only slows our sites but eats into our pocketbooks)
• In 10 you back tracked and told us to turn OFF the cool toys you gave us to make the site run faster. Ah, but if you do that then your site will break, affording you the “opportunity” to rebuild your site.
Unless you can be upfront with us and admit you made a mistake and are now trying to fix it the reasons to continue using Newspaper become nearly non-existent.
(and yes, to all of you out there who know “all of the things”, these conclusions were discovered using a test site which has been wiped and copied several times to come to the place we are today)
I’m an independent and my time is money. I can’t charge my clients for upgrading their websites can I now? When the recommendation to go with one of the most popular themes in use came from me?
As a test, I’m going to delete Newspaper and scrub it’s existence from one site. Then install a flexible, fast page-builder friendly theme and rebuild that client’s website to see what the difference is and how long it takes. I’m going to guess between 30 – 40 hours of my time. I guess we’ll see what the end result is…
Where do I send the bill? (rhetorical question I know)
I fixed the sticky menu from appearing on the right by setting the sticky menu mega menu to “Relative to menu.” That seems like only a temporary fix as the normal menu is set to “Relative to screen” and is showing fine. Any thoughts on this?
I turned off the standard pack, but I’m still seeing issues with the menu and other things:
1. In all browsers, when you first load the page, the height of the main red menu is really high for a second, then it snaps back to the proper height. Is this normal?
2. In Safari, the sticky menu on the home page (https://www.vitalthrills.com) does not pull down the posts or the “More” submenu. That seems to work fine in other browsers.
3. In all the browsers on posts (example: https://www.vitalthrills.com/2019/11/15/frozen-2-cast-and-crew-on-the-sequel/), the sticky menu “More” submenu items text seem to be squished and not each on one line. They are on one line in the normal menu.
4. Also in Safari, on the home page (https://www.vitalthrills.com), the Ajax Categories in the “Latest Articles” section (Flex Block 1) do not work, but they work in all other browsers.
Hello,
I notice a problem with the design of my article blocks when I create a page with TagDiv Composer. The titles and layouts selected and visible in the TagDiv Composer do not match those that appear when I put my page online.
What can I do to remedy this problem?
Thank you in advance for your help
I updated to Newspaper X no problem last week
I was having to work through changing blocks since the update etc so that Standard Pack plugin could be deactivated etc like many others
Aside from this – this morning I tried to update to Newspaper 10.1 – using the dashboard method which I always use.
1. Activate another theme
2. Delete Newspaper
3. Upload 10.1 Newspaper.zip
The site opened but all the TagDiv plugins failed ‘ajax error’ on the opening TagDiv theme page – I then lost dashboard access and the front end has lots of code like the image attached before reaching the site –
When you say in the forum update advice ‘delete plugins’ – is there another step now? Like below? Or is the Dashboard advice still the same
1. Activate another theme
1a. DELETE TD PLUGINS from dashboard?
2. Delete Newspaper
3. Upload 10.1 Newspaper.zip
Site restored to Version 10
But how do I update to 10.1 without the same issue repeating?
Is it different from before – do we delete plugins AND theme or just theme
Documentation should be clearer and there wouldn’t be so many confused users!
Hi,
No, you understand this wrong, you deactivate the standard plugin only if you replace the page elements with flex elements and cloud, without classic elements ( block, style ), only hen you can deactivate the standard pack, because the standard pack is the old version of the theme, by deactivating it you’ll have only the cloud elements that will make your website faster.
I hope I was clear this time, if not, let me know!
Thank you!
Hi Vlad,
I followed these steps, but it did not fix the problem. It looks like the blocks “Page Title” and “Breadcrumbs” are missing.
See screenshot:
Hallo Vlad,
did all of the above (deactivated all plugins except tagdiv, cleared cache). Problem still occurs.
It seems like the block designer made a mistake. The problem occurs if the title of the previous article is one row longer. Then the next article block doesn’t get placed below the previous one but on the right side of it where is more space (as you can see on the pictures above).
That should not happen because it makes the “Load More” option on the Flex Block 3 useless. Could you give this information to your design team? I think that would be good for the theme if that would be fixed.
I will make a workaround (use different blocks and so on) but for the future it would be good that this will be fixed.
Thanks.
ello !
Please make sure that you do the procedure properly according to our documentation here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
For Yoast: In the new update there have been inserted new blocks in gutenberg and due to those improvements you have to refresh your post because now Yoast doesn’t work in real time. So you can do this by updating and saving your posts.
The page editor has been fixed in the Newspaper 10.1
The best way to update the Newspaper Theme is to delete the current Newspaper Theme version and TagDiv Plugins and after that you can install the new version.
You can find 9.8 version here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/action-required-please-read-how-to-update-to-the-newspaper-theme-v-10/

Hello
Is it possible to change the related content template under the post?
I’d like to set the style of the block14.
Hallo,
I use the Flex Block 3 on my site with the option to “Load More” articles. But when I click the “Load More” two times, the content (the articles with pictures) are displaced.
See here:
This is how it looks after I press the button once. That looks good: https://imgur.com/ICGyoEE
And then after the second time. Doesn’t look good. Tried with two different browsers. Same issue.

How can this be fixed?
Thank you.
Hello !
It can be a plugin conflict that may occur but for a quick fix you can use this CSS code here: .wp-block-button {
margin-bottom: 10px;
}
The code must be inserted here: https://www.screencast.com/t/J1Nxw5s5

Hello – I’ve noticed since updating to WordPress 5.3 that the yellow button with text “Click here to buy Espen Berg Trio: Free To Play” at: https://jazzjournal.co.uk/2019/11/03/espen-berg-trio-free-to-play/ now crashes into the next block instead of floating between the two text blocks. Is this a factor of 5.3 or its relationship to Newspaper? I am using NP 9.2.2.
Thanks
Mark Gilbert
I would like to use a toggle like q&a of WordPress, or alert popup, or other nice element in my post.
There is some plugin or other way to add shortcake or something else. ?
Bye Alex
https://www.businessmag.co.uk/
Since updating to 10.1 yesterday our media library is not working properly. Sometimes it just loads indefinitely and if we refresh it may load after 30 seconds or so. Then the images will sometimes not insert into either post or the featured image. It’s random.
I’ve disabled all non-essential plugins and had only the tag.div plugins running. I’ve been in touch with WP engine, our host and they suggested the problem is with the theme.
They also found this error.
2 PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function get_header() in /nas/content/live/thebusinessmag/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/index.php:1\nStack trace:\n#0 {main}\n thrown in /nas/content/live/thebusinessmag/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/index.php on line 1
Any idea? I really don’t want to roll back to the previous version as we would lose an entire day of news posts.
Hey,
how can I change the header for the widgets in the sidebar?

When I normally do an update my site looks weird until I re-install the TD Composer plugin, then it all looks fine again. I followed the same process here when upgrading from v9 to v10 but even after installing the TD Composer plugin, the home page looks broken.
This is the “code” for the homepage that breaks:
[tdc_zone][vc_row][vc_column][td_block_24 limit=”1″ custom_title=”LATEST ANSWER” mx16_el=”25″ m19_el=”45″ td_ajax_preloading=”preload”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="2/3"][td_block_11 mx4_tl=”35″ custom_title=”RANDOM ANSWERS” td_ajax_preloading=”preload” ajax_pagination=”next_prev” limit=”4″ sort=”random_posts” offset=”2″ m1_tl=”35″][td_block_15 sort=”” td_ajax_preloading=”preload” ajax_pagination=”load_more” limit=”3″ custom_title=”LATEST ANSWERS” offset=”1″][td_block_15 custom_title=”POPULAR ANSWERS” td_ajax_preloading=”preload” ajax_pagination=”load_more” sort=”popular7″ offset=”1″ limit=”3″ mx4_tl=”40″ tdc_css=”eyJhbGwiOnsic2hhZG93LXNpemUiOiIwIiwib3BhY2l0eSI6IjAiLCJkaXNwbGF5IjoiIn19″ f_header_font_style=”eyJwb3J0cmFpdCI6IiJ9″][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_widget_sidebar sidebar_id="td-default"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width="stretch_row_1200 td-stretch-content" tdc_css="eyJhbGwiOnsiZGlzcGxheSI6IiJ9LCJwaG9uZSI6eyJkaXNwbGF5IjoiIn0sInBob25lX21heF93aWR0aCI6NzY3fQ=="][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][/tdc_zone]
I think this is what I saw on the page when it was broken, but I’m not 100% sure. I should have taken a screenshot but was in a rush to get my site back up.

I am unable to remove the Instagram widget on the side and the Sponsor widget from all pages 🙁 @rochelle
Hello !
Sorry for missunderstanding your issue, Unfortunately those links cannot be displayed. You could use a css code like this but we do not recommend it since it will brake the layout of the page: @media (max-width: 767px) {
.td-header-top-menu-full,
.td-header-sp-top-menu {
display: block!important;
text-align: center;
}}
The code must be inserted here: https://www.screencast.com/t/J1Nxw5s5
