Hi,

Did you made a custom template for the author page? the page should look like this – http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/author/admin/

The issue may be caused by cache, if you use a cache plugin try to delete it (sometimes the cache is disabled only if you delete the plugin) and see if the issue is still there.

If you made modifications on the theme code check those modifications to see if there’s something which may alter the author page look.

Thank you, Emil G.

Hi,

If you use a cache plugin you have to enable the Ajax view count – http://screencast.com/t/Mg7Ls0Uh
The theme view count feature registers one view for each page access (including page refresh), the other systems may filter for unique users or other criteria and that’s why the results are different.

Thank you!

Hi,

If you update from Newspaper 4 then note that Newspaper 6 is practically a new theme, the code structure was modified and the old custom modifications(or custom css) have to be rewritten.

If you refer to the latest update then yes, you have to save the custom code modifications (or backup the current theme) on you local hard disk, install the latest version and reapply the code modifications. The css added in Theme Panel -> Custom CSS is not affected because it’s saved in the database and you only update the theme files.

The best practice is to backup the side before updating (usually there’s a backup option in the cpanel/host administration area). If you use a cdn or a cache plugin clear the cache (purge cdn files).

Thank you!

Hi,

Have you updated theme from version 4, if so you have to run the update script after updating the theme, like instructed in the update guide here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/

Updating the theme right shouldn’t cause you any issues so you can try to update the theme based on this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ backup your current install, run the import settings script, update plugins and check the result. You can always get back to the previous working theme version if something goes wrong as long as you backup it but doing the update as instructed the theme should work fine.
You should also consider into the process at the following aspects:

– backup your current theme/WordPress/database: https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups
– setup a maintenance mode and you can use a plugin for that.
– empty all caches/purge files if you also use CDN host then disable any services of this type until you switch to the new theme
– disable all plugins
– install the theme then install the required plugins
– switch back the rest of the plugins and start other services

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks

Hmm I’m not using a cache plugin but it seems like I should after reading about it for bit..
I just migrated from Shopify so I am new to the WordPress platform.. Which plugin do you recommend? I’ll install it.. Thanks for the quick reply.

Which plugin are you using for Cache? Or are you using a CDN?

oronmati
tagDiv Member

I followed the instructions and updated the theme via Method C (WordPress zip upload) and lost my custom CSS that I entered at the Appearance tab. Sucks but I will rewrite it.
One question I have- it says in the Best Practices to reset the Cache.. How do I do that?

I find the plugin very stable now, I would say it’s 5 times better than what I had available originally 8/9 months ago, when I started this as a hobbie at first. Again, I recommend a decent server, the cheapest one will require work to stay fast and deliver a pleasant user experience (like CDN, cache, optimized images, etc)

Dates are now easily set, used to be an headache. Depends what one consider “small things” I guess 🙂 everything that is standard or mainstream works very well.

Comments are not affected by the plugin (except for the labels of the input fields ofc), a comment made in a post, regardless of its content or its language, will appear in all versions (languages) of the post/page. I remember I stumbled upon an extension/plugin which allowed to show comments separated per language, I see it can be useful in some cases but it is not for mine, a least for now, so I never used/tested it. Out of the box, no option is given to the user commentating in regard of classifying a post as being in any particular language.

Menus are great, I just need to customize the theme or the plugin to show a flag in mobile, between the icons of search and slide the menu. Right now is ok but (just one click away) but I kindda like gimmicks

You can have a look at http://www.infoporto.pt but I still have some bugs and it might not be the best example because it has some customizations and custom post types and custom post fields… I just started January and I have other things not related to the site it self to deal with… The hobbie became serious but I had to focus first on one language first because, in my case, there’s a will to have some depth in the differences of the contents of each language (2 so far, soon professionals will be hired to translate a more solid number). I also had delays in releasing “final” and complete version of my site cause of constant developments, newspaper seems to support child themes and custom post types now so I need to check out that first before continuing to fine tune the custom functions I already made.

Hey there, I love the theme. I just wish I could get these author pages working.

Tried disabling plugins (except visual page builder)…tried clearing cache.

Check out one of the authors pages for example: http://eaglenews.org/author/madison-hampton/

Anyone have a fix?

What could be my problem. Maybe Wp Super Cache? Now my “TWEETS” widget on the sidebar is working on every page except the frontpage.

Site.

Hi Lucian

I’ve disabled all plugins except VC, emptied the cache, but the issue still persists. So I guess this isn’t a plugin issue? For now I’ve enabled all the plugins.

Here’s the link to see the issue: http://mobt.me/5dyT
My website is http://www.dailyenglish.in.th

Thanks

Hi,

I can see it working fine for this post: http://screencast.com/t/GDOSh3zfXC for which the fetayred image is set: http://screencast.com/t/LLryDTEX
Make sure you empty all caches and also purge files if you sue cdn host and test this again.

Thanks for the message!

Hi,

Please make sure that you test your site without using any extra plugins besides theme’s VC plugin, empty all caches then test this again. Let us know how it goes and if you still get this please let us know and also provide your site’s url so we can inspect this.

Thanks

Hi,

This could happen due to a plugin so please make sure that you also test this without having any plugins active, also empty all caches and/or disable ant js/html/css compression tool then test again.
I can’t inspect your site as it’s in maintenance mode so if you can’t manage to solve this let us know via email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide a link to this conversation and your admin credentials so we can have a closer look at this.

Thanks

Hi

The theme seems to be missing the main css file, and can be caused by some plugin that overwrite the theme css or the file got corrupted during the ftp transfer, you cab try to re-upload the theme or try to deactivate all plugins except Visual Composer, clear the cache, purge the cdn file if you’re using and test again. If the problem doesn’t solved please provide a link so we can inspect it closer.

Thanks!

Hi,

Unfortunately customizing your site for a better page speed score requires custom work so if you’re not aware of the instructions and steps you need to take on this we recommend you get some help on this and get a freelancer from site’s like: http://studio.envato.com/
We recommend wp super cache because it’s more easy to use while W3TC has lost of settings the wp super cache lighter.

Thanks for the message!

Hi

It possible to have a plugin that redirect you on the first page every time you want to navigate to another, so you can try deactivate all except Visual Composer clear the cache and test again also you can try to regenerate your htaccses like so http://screencast.com/t/rQkmLsLNlpz3

Thanks!

Hi Lucian,

Thanks for your feedback. This must be a cache issue, because we do have several of the posts with featured images and they are not showing on my browser.

If we run into any other questions on this topic we’ll get back to you.

Hi,

It seems that you’ve forgot to paste your site’s link.
The menu issue could happen due to a plugin so you could also test this without using any plugins, lave just theme VC plugins active, empty all caches and test again.
Let us know how it goes!

Thanks

Hi,

1. Also make sure that you update wp files install and database also: https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups

2. Either way, but considering the theme wasn’t tested with previous versions of WordPress you should update WordPress then update the theme.

3. Many files have changes from forth version, this sixth version of the theme is practically a new theme. I suggest you note the changes, update the theme using the update guide and remove the files of the 4th version you now have installed then upload the new ones then make the changes again but note that it may be possible not to work anymore.

4. There are lost of improvements, as I stated it’s practically a new theme, with a new grid, new designs, new features, new modules, blocks and posts templates.

Use the FTP method form the update guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ and follow the instructions carefully and updating it right shouldn’t cause you any issues, backup your current install, run the import settings script, update plugins and check the result.

Thanks

Hi,

Please test this without any plugins active, leave just theme’s Visual Composer plugins active, empty all caches, purge files if you use cdn host then test this again. Also make sure that you disable any jss/css/html compression tools.
Let us know how it goes and also provide your site’s url if this still happens.

Thanks

Hi,

First you have to import the settings which come with the Classic Blog demo, just go to the Install Demos section – http://screencast.com/t/wNSBAyTUr

Second, you have to create the homepage – http://screencast.com/t/tvSvT3bJ8RIhttp://screencast.com/t/cXHtWvQz5u

Third, set the newly created page as homepage from Settings -> Reading – http://screencast.com/t/i8Ozxe8q

@other issues – please provide more details, i’m not sure what you mean. If you use a cache disable it (or clear it) and see if the issue is still there.

Thank you!

Hi,

1. I’ve added this on our list, we’ll try to add the 7days sort option in one of the next updates.

2. If you use a cache plugin the 7days post sorting option doesn’t provide precise results. We have this on our list, Radu is looking for a solution.

3. Use the offset option present on the Latest Articles settings panel – http://screencast.com/t/lGFAMan4yg

Thank you!

Lucian

Hi,

Please go to your theme panel > categories then select the drop-down for the category you’ve mentioned: http://ontargetmagazine.com/category/training-tech/ then make sure you select and set an article display view for posts then empty all caches and test again: http://screencast.com/t/AitNKPZFa

Please let us know how it goes and if you can’t manage to solve it please provide your admin login credentials at contact@tagdiv.com along with a link to this conversation so we can take a closer look at this and we will get back with an answer as soon as possible.

Thanks
