Right .. well it’s a new theme not a dot update; all the grids, layouts, images CHANGED.
You need to regenerate your thumbnails to fit new layout, hence all the resize image errors seen in the GTMetrix check. Also need to update any tagdiv plugins, clear server side cache if using one, etc.
Optimize that one image which is 23KB too large (see the report link for which one).
When you change themes you need to regenerate thumbnails to fit the new modules/layouts/sizes.
Theme can’t do that for you, unfortunately.
Also this may help: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
We use opcache on server along with mod_pagespeed for our server and works very well.
I love this theme, one of the best I have used in 10 years publishing WordPress sites. However, it is unusable on mobile – it take minutes to load – as much as 5 minutes.
I am at a loss to understand why. It loads on desktops and tablets fast, but mobile is useless. My only option is to figure out why or abandon the theme in favor of a better designed responsive theme.
Here is the link to our website http://www.DroningSkies.com in contrast to our other website http://www.DroneCyclone.com
DroningSkies.com is the one with the Newsmag theme installed.
It is not using any cache. What appear to be the problem is a script that is loading first.
Any insights are welcome.
Hello,
We are still working on the speed booster plugin. To make speed booster run with all plugins, you can easly edit it like so: http://screencast.com/t/Lv17MLygXSZ
the list of tested plugins:
'bbpress/bbpress.php',
'contact-form-7/wp-contact-form-7.php',
'jetpack/jetpack.php',
'js_composer/js_composer.php',
'td-speed-booster/td-speed-booster.php',
'font-awesome-4-menus/n9m-font-awesome-4.php',
'wordpress-seo/wp-seo.php',
'wp-user-avatar/wp-user-avatar.php',
'td-social-counter/td-social-counter.php',
'wp-super-cache/wp-cache.php'
We will add more plugins as soon as we test them
Hi,
Please provide a link so we can take a look, also you can check this without any plugins active, leave only Visual Composer active, clear cache and see if you still have this issue with megamenu. If you don’t please activate your plugins one by one and see which one caused this issue.
Thanks!
Yes, I cleared cache after both css snippets. Very strange, but good that it worked for you, hhealth.
Hi,
1. Please disable all your plugins leave just Visual Composer active and clear cache. You can change the block title from settings – http://screencast.com/t/J7dTw8ny0Cdv
2. You have an option for each block to filter by category – http://screencast.com/t/djlQMLoY7D
3. For tagdiv blocks you can change the title color and background – http://screencast.com/t/wNXFYuwJHqTy please provide more details what title color you want to change as wordpress widgets titles can be changed using custom css.
4. Please provide more details as I’m not sure what you mean, also a screenshot and your site url may help.
Thanks!
Have you tried clearing Cache afterwards? I used the first CSS and it worked on my site
Hi,
1. To set Leverage Cache you have to add the code in your htaccess after # END WordPress
2. Also about WP Super Cache configuration we recommend to use it as default.
Also Christopher’s topic may help.
Thanks!
Hi,
Unfortunately I don’t have a copy of this plugin and we don’t tested it with the theme. You can try to deactivate all plugins, leave just Visual Composer and Orbit extension active, clear cache and check again if you still have this issue.
Thanks!
Hi,
I’m not sure if I understand well, when you save it redirects to the above link?
Please try to disable all your plugins, leave just Visual Composer active, clear cache, also re-save your permalinks and see if it works.
Thanks!
Hi,
@kaygorod There is an error on your category page – http://screencast.com/t/pW71o5MRjp2 Also you can resave the permalinks and try this without any plugins active, leave just Visual Composer and clear cache.
I have checked your article and the bottom ad is displayed – http://screencast.com/t/O11mrhA6b please provide more details. You have an option set the size of ad – http://screencast.com/t/3yvMv7Xu8g
Thanks!
Child theme updated / replaced with the latest version, all caches cleared etc. Still an issue. The only Big Grid that fits is the Big Grid Slide. All others wrap over. Comparing Slide with Grid 2 – Slide is set in a 1068px wrapper div and Grid 2 set in a 1050px (inherited) width div, with 741px main and 324px additionals for both.
Hi,
Your article/link doesn’t exist – http://screencast.com/t/sohKgn4pY7
Any way I have checked an article from your site and this word comes from a share plugin that you use – http://screencast.com/t/i47BJ2U7 Or did you have made custom modifications to the code?
Please disable all yuor plugins except of Visual Composer, clear cache and check again your article.
Thanks!

Hi,
Do you have any custom modification to the pagination? If not please check this also without any plugins active, leave just Visual Composer active, clear cache and purge your file if you use CDN, then see if you still have this issue.
Thanks!

Hi,
The latest version of Social Counter is 2.10, please make sure that you have updated the plugin. Also please re-add your youtube Id – http://screencast.com/t/R0hi5hn3ag25 and clear cache. Also please make sure that your subscribers number is visible from youtube settings.
Please also provide a link so we can take a look.

Hi,
You have these errors in the console – http://screencast.com/t/aGLY6Hjh2 please check this without any plugins active, leave just Visual Composer active, clear cache and see if you still have this issue with gallery.
Unfortunately this delay usually happens when speed booster is used as the css and js are moved at the bottom of the page structure, so that the page will load faster. That’s why the theme’s default style appears first then changes, because of the cascading property of css. To avoid this you could try to make the changes directly into theme’s style file.
I also checked your page source and those css resources are moved to the bottom, you also can check – http://screencast.com/t/vkHNjMZu only jetpack sharing css is not moved – http://screencast.com/t/YGTYW5v11oxY Try to move also that css and see if you still have this issue when you test pagespeed on mobile.
Thanks!
Hi,
I also checked this on Chrome (logged in/out, incognito) and did not found any issues with it. Please check this without any plugins active except of just Visual Composer, clear cache and see if you still have issues with it.
Also please provide a link so we can take a look.
Thanks!
Yup. Just take all of that out of your style.css file which is what I do.
All those features you keep asking for need to have the code someplace. And better to have one big file, vs. having 10 different CSS files like some sites. That’s the whole idea behind “combining CSS” so only one file gets loaded/cached.
CSS larger for this theme vs hot topix (I use that also), is all those fancy visual composer modules and layouts; which is why you have 50 layout options vs the 3 or 3 with topix — apples to oranges. Why does a V8 engine use more gas has than a 4-cylinder ? Self explanatory – twice the cylinders.
No way for theme to easily generate different CSS and a nightmare for support (where is my WooCommerce CSS? Un, did you activate that option? Where is the option? In the CSS panel. Where is the CSS panel? Did you see the documentation? What is that?) etc. 😉
Just my two cents if we’re all going to chime in on this topic.
Upshot: tweak your site to remove those elements you don’t use, for best performance.
I did have conversation with Radu about what could safely be removed from the config file, also, such as require loading modules for bbpress if not using that. Never got to finishing that process due to the server CPU issues we had due to stupid VC memory leaks or whatever is up with that.
Personally I would prefer to have a MAGAZINE focused theme without all the bbpress, multisite and woocommerce stuff – but 20-30% of people buying this are “wanting” and perhaps “demanding” those features so they are in there (the Magazine theme got bloated from Oct 2013 to Jan 2015 due to this … annoying to me, personally — but this is a “one for all” theme, not a micro niche focused offering; or it would not sell in these competitive themeforest marketplace).
Happy Sunday. Ranting over (rant!!!!)… 🙂

Why would the theme have anything to do with URLs posted on Facebook ?
The theme has nothing to do with how URLs are parsed. Meaning, if the URL you share to FB is correct and actually works, and somebody clicks that link – it will work if the site is accessible.
That is handled by your DNS, web server, and the ISP being able to resolve the DNS pointing at the IP where your website is hosted.
It might be a setting you have for Android users, or it may be that the caching of your CSS is mismatched on server and some android users or chrome users where chrome caches websites, is loading old CSS and not the new CSS and page will not load properly.
In those cases you need to clear server cache quite completely, where applicable; and a visitor who has a browser which doesn’t reload the CSS properly would need to hit “refresh” in their mobile browser to get the new CSS.
Sometimes you can force this by setting a very short TTL just for the CSS, like one hour, and let it be that way for a week — bad for pagespeed, but can “force” some browsers to make sure they only see new site CSS.
Might not be your issues; just a thought 🙂
Hi Alin,
Thanks for pointing out the issue with the category URL. There seems to be a problem with Yoast SEO plugin which should strip /category from the URL (if you put /category/world it works fine). I’ll speak to Yoast devs. This problem is fairly recent, it worked fine a week ago.
As for ?s=rome, I disabled all plugins except Visual Composer, I emptied all cache and the problem is still there. Actually, this problem does not seem to be related to the Newspaper theme, as it occurs even if I change to one of WP default themes.
Thanks for taking the time to reply and sorry to have bothered you.
Regards,
Martino
