Hi,
Please make sure that you follow the update of theme like in our documentation -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
Install via FTP – https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Install via WordPress – https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-wordpress/.
If you have child theme please deactivate it until you update/install the theme.
We recommend to be made via FTP.
If there is still a problem, you can send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide admin login, as well as cPanel or FTP if possible. We will take a look. Include a link to this topic in the email.
Thank you!
Hi,
1)Make sure if you are using the latest version of the theme installed via FTP way, remove all of the untested plugins, clear all the caches, purge CDN files and check the results.
2)Please notice that all of your custom modification through the code will be lost to the next update, sorry! The file where you have made this change was overwritten by the latest version of the theme and that’s why it reappears. You can try using the Child Theme.
Thanks.
So, here’s what I did to update:
1. Put the site on maintenance mode
2. Renamed the old theme folder to Newspaper-old (so WordPress thinks now the parent theme is broken) and then deleted the folder completely.
3. Uploaded the new theme zip and activated the theme. So, now WordPress detects that is a parent theme of the current active Child theme.
But, when I keep the child theme active – even with 0 errors – the website loads up as a blank page (even though the analytics records the visit). And, when I activate the parent theme – it works just fine.
I’m not sure why the child theme is causing the issue even if it has not been modified. Here’s the style.css code of my child theme: https://pastebin.com/PdJ2J8wf
Let me know what I can do to resolve it.
You can find info here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/easy-theme-and-plugin-upgrades/
I used many theme wordpress who have all easy update, this is the only one who have difficult update.
I try to make simple update with theme forest Evanto tool kit, but after i had blank website, must reactivate tagdiv composer and stop using child theme.
And after you need to reorder your menu and widget.
It’s the only one theme i know who need 30 mn for update, and it’s better to wait few day before make update, because if update have bug, they’ll do new update few time after!
Edit:
Do you list functions/methods/classes that you deprecate?

When I updated to the latest version (9.5) I am now getting
Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined method td_api_header_style::_helper_show_header() in /Users/mgargano/Sites/jerusaysyoureplayingyourself.com/site/web/app/themes/Newspaper-child/header.php on line 32
( ! ) Error: Call to undefined method td_api_header_style::_helper_show_header() in /Users/mgargano/Sites/jerusaysyoureplayingyourself.com/site/web/app/themes/Newspaper-child/header.php on line 32
I see a method called show_header() is that a replacement for td_api_header_style::_helper_show_header() ?
Thanks,
P*
How do i do it? what you showed was link to child theme not which file in the child theme should be modified
Hi,
If you want to make some change in single_template_1 you can copy that template in child theme and make changes there.
Thank you for your understanding!
@iamkingsleyf You can make that modification in a child theme, for the default post templates
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/
The default post template files can be modified in a child theme, so this way an update will not affect the modification.
Hi,
You can use a child theme to make some changes in theme file and keep them after theme update, Also this is only for theme, not plugins, and there are specifics files that can be edit in child theme.
Here you can check our documentation for child theme support: https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/
Thank you for your understanding!
Hi claudioper,
Here is our documentation for Child theme support -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/ her you can see how it need to look like the child in order to work, also you can find here the file that can be set in child ( not all files can be edit in child theme ).
Thank you for your understanding!
Hi,
You can set a default template and set the shortcode, in this way you’ll get the header and footer too.

-> https://www.screencast.com/t/l2IYy26W
Please check this documentation for Blank Theme Page for Full Screen Sliders -> https://www.themepunch.com/faq/blank-theme-page-for-full-screen-sliders/
Also this template is in plugin files, and will not work in child theme, only the file of theme cone be set in child theme, sorry!
Thank you for your understanding!
Hi,
You can use the theme on the sub-domain of the install domain, but not another sub-domain.
Using child theme you can make some changes in some file of theme and keep that settings that you made in child theme after theme updates.
Also here is our documentation for child theme -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/
Thank you!
I’m just building my first site with Newspaper 9.5
With my WordPress sites I don’t usually get into changes to functions.php etc.
What is the case for and against deploying a child theme?
1. I’ve updated theme through Envato plugin. So after that I still need to update plugins through FTP?
2. I can’t find anything about child theme changes in the chanelog (https://tagdiv.com/newspaper/). Where can I find info on how to “re-apply changes” to child theme?
Hi. To what extent can the child-theme be used? … I try to create custom blocks through td_config.php, custom functions through td_module.php in the child-theme and none of this has any effect. Always look in the parent-theme. Any ideas on this? Any ideas on how to create the styles so that in the td_composer mode, playing something from the iframe.css (in the rd composer plugin), you see the blocks live something similar to how it will look in the final edition? Any ideas about this? Thank you!
Can you tell me where to find the template, revolution slider blank template I can find all others but that.
I want to copy it to my child theme to add get_header(); and footer.
Thank you
a) update plugins at same time as theme; they do not update automatically
b) READ the changelog to see what changed prior to update — so, for example if it says ‘child theme changed’ — you may need to re-apply changes to child theme (why I don’t use them)
c) choose whether to update AFTER you look into what changed
ALWAYS MAKE DBASE BACKUP VIA HOSTING CONSOLE PRIOR TO ANY THEME UPDATE.
ALWAYS MAKE FTP BACKUP PRIOR TO ANY MAJOR THEME UPDATE.
Same happens to me.
Wp-admin work fine, front side just blank.
source code is available so page loads but not render to view
@edit2
ok, the problem is with the childtheme.
Okay, I just wanted to confirm.
I believe I can use the theme on site.com. What about sub.site.com? How do I use it in this case? I hear some talk about child theme or sth. I’m getting illumined and thanks.
I have by your instruction successfully installed the theme.
I’d like to create a sidebar main menu instead of a top bar main menu (what comes with the theme) but keep the overall formatting of my newspaper theme. Is that possible? I’m assuming I could overrule the top main menu in my child theme, but I don’t know if introducing a sticky side nav and offsetting the body content would break the page.
Hi,
I make some investigation and investigation and is look like this file ( td_module.php ) can not be set in child theme, sorry for the inconvenience!
You can see our documentation for child theme here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/
Thank you for your understanding!
It’s not because of the child theme. I tried without as well.
Basically, no matter if I change the code in Newspaper>includes>demos>fast>demo_style.css (https://prnt.sc/mflzlb), when I look at the page code in console (F12), the same default colors appear: http://prntscr.com/mfm3dg. Strangely enough, when looking in the console where it takes it’s colors from it does say that the CSS is in Newspaper>includes>demos>fast>demo_style.css, but it doesn’t see the updated colors.
I’m not using any caching plugins, so that’s not the issue.

It doesn’t work. I tried to make it all black, but there’s literally no color change to the menu: http://prntscr.com/mflzlb
When I do this in the console though (F12), it works: http://prntscr.com/mfm08j
Can it be because I’m using a child theme?
Thanks – this worked using the theme files 🙂
Why weren’t they picked up from my child theme?
Is Newspaper-child/includes/wp_booster/td_module.php the correct path?
Please make this change in theme files with child them deactivate, and after you achieve the result try to set the settings in child theme.
Thanks.
