Thanks a lot for the quick reply.

That was pretty much all clear. What I don’t see is, that a user can choose a specific page to submit the content to.

The pages shall be used to list the content of a destination.

Then the user as well chooses a category (sights, food, adventure). That’s easy, as it’s in the “add posts” widget.

But where can the user decide the main menu section?

It would make no sense to built everything with “categories”, as that would mean a huge mess of finding the right continent, country (worldwide) & then somewhere in between a topic (food, sights…).

Let’s take the News Paper demo as an example: https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/

Let’s say “Lifestyle” is a page & the “Travel” & “Recipes” in the sub-menu as well. How can the user choose to submit content for the one or other?

Each block on the frontpage should show the continents & in the block sub-menu should be shown the different topics.
_____

I was thinking of working with tags, but it’s not working either.

The topics should be fixed. So users should not be able to add new ones. And when adding/choosing the topics, the user should have right away the complete overview of those.

Some topics might also got sub-topics like:

See/Do
– activities
– sights
– museums

Food
– street food
– restaurants

That’s why “categories” is useful for the topics.

Is it possible to have two separate widgets with categories? So that one would be for countries & the other for categories?

Or is it possible to use taxonomy with the News Paper theme to built this?

Hi TagDiv support and community,

I’m creating a website using newspaper 8. I imported the main demo, now I’ve started deleting categories, posts and pages, as well as adding our own content, but I haven’t been able to remove “All” and “Featured” from content sections on the homepage, how do I do that?

Our site is a news site in Spanish, please help.

Now it works for me on desktop and on mobile. Those bars may appear on mobile, depending on image size and maybe aspect ratio, check the gallery on our demo website
https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/td-post-aston-villa-beat-liverpool-to-join-arsenal-in-the-fa-cup-final/
Some image display differently than others. However in terms of functionality the gallery works fully now on your website.

Hello Philcomputing,

You can install the demo Voice Report from our Theme panel or simply use the Homepage source code and add it into a blank page. Use the code below -> https://pastebin.com/vf8q1LBP

Thanks for the message!

You provided me some example like https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/td-post-lenovo-details-new-computers-that-could-be-heading-our-way-in-2015/
I really like the fact the image background go on all the page.
It indicate Style 7… that I use but don’t do the same.
How I could achieve that?

Ok. Maybe you misunderstood my question.

If i.e. this post (https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/td-post-2015-awards-all-of-the-best-and-worst-moments-from-the-show/) is linked to from a block on the front page – then the picture that will be loaded on the fornt page is huge (1920 x 1269) while only a small image 360 x 220 is necessary.

This causes issue with speed and performance.

So how can we load a smaller image in the block-display on the front page – and still keep the larger image as the background in the post template itself?

Best wishes
Lars

Hi,

So you are referring to the post template 8. The background will use the full original image, the one you set as featured image. Not a thumbnail.

The original image set as featured can be as large as you want. It’s full size will not be used in many places, there are thumbnails created for that. But as background the full size will be used.

If you use a small featured image, it will be stretched to cover the background. The result will probably be of low quality.
The demo post uses an image of this size as featured image

Hello brucetm,

Notice that the demo overwrite some codes and that’s why the Block Header 1 is different than the default version of it. You should edit the theme core files, demo folder and make the following change like this -> https://www.screencast.com/t/amcHQWfu -> https://www.screencast.com/t/oZlZT8n0

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your understanding!

Simple question: Where can you change the picture for the mobile header menu? This menu does not appear on PC version. I want to delete the default demo picture.

I have been looking for a long time through all the menus and cannot find it for the life of me.

Thanks

Edit: Sorry, I found myself.

So you lost posts that you created? That would mean there are problems with the website database where posts are kept.

As I mentioned above, only imported posts by the demo will be removed when a demo is uninstalled. You own created posts will not be touched. Unless maybe you edited the dummy posts from the demo instead of creating new ones, if you did that then the posts are lost
https://forum.tagdiv.com/installing-demos/

Only if made a full backup before could they be restored.

Hi,

Is there an easy way of adding in the Ads section 2 more Ad widgets, and they would need to show either side of the content floating over the top of the background image and staying fixed near the top when you scroll down the page.

But they would not show for mobile phones

I have done an image to demonstrate

I appreciate any help, thank you 🙂

Hello zlatanwil,

Please notice that the speed of your website depends on how well your site is optimized.
-> https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?hl=ro&url=http%3A%2F%2Fyesitreallyhappened.com%2F&tab=desktop

Notice that is not a simple task and if you do not have any experience in this regard you will do not bring good results for the theme. Also, notice that we have a speed optimization tutorial but this is addressed only to advanced users. So, if you follow the steps which are presented in this tutorial here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-make-the-site-faster/ you can increase the page speed loading and if you are not aware of the steps in this regard, please consider hiring a freelancer/developer to help you because the speed optimization services are not covered by our support policy, as you can read here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/support-policy-2/ Check our documentation here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/ regarding on dedicated server to fit our requirements.

Notice that the function which have to be added in functions.php is -> td_inspect_scripts() as you can see in our useful guide.

Unfortunately, our theme does not have such an option to minify the style.css file and we cannot recommend any plugins with this functionality because is not tested with our theme. For minifying this file, we are using CloudFlare for our demo and works fine. If you want to read other views from our users, please check this topic -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/tip-how-to-easily-minify-your-css-without-breaking-your-site/
Also, check all of your Ad Spots and if you have entered any suspicious code through them, remove all of them and check the results without them.

One of our top members here on the forum wrote his own optimization tutorial here:
https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/tutorial-chriss-custom-optimizations-for-functions-php-etc/ and here -> https://www.infophilic.com/get-almost-100-pagespeed-newspaper-theme/

Basically, these are the theme requirements

Thanks for your understanding!

Hi @Catalin,

thanks for your kind reply. I already did this. The Voice demo is up and running.
The layout looks fine. Have a look at my project: https://healthupyourlife.com.

Unfortunately, the content blocks (light box must read, past stories etc.) do not behave like the content on the demo homepage. Within your demo of “village voice” the blocks act according to the headline. On my homepage the content is randomized.

What do I have to do to replicate the behavior of the homepage of “village voice” on my page?

Best regards Phil

By default all the colors are predefined. So you don’t need to put anything in the theme panel, leave it as default
https://www.screencast.com/t/1o78VXmVo

Each post template will have a predefined color, for example white in this template
https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/td-post-lenovo-details-new-computers-that-could-be-heading-our-way-in-2015/

Black in this post template
https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/td-post-patricia-urquiola-coats-transparent-furniture-for-glas-italia-with-an-iridescent-sheen/

This happens without you doing any changes in the theme panel, by default. If you set a color in the theme panel, that will apply to all the post templates. If that is necessary, best to avoid dark or light colors, that may cause visibility issues for some of the templates.

Hi,

When a background color is used like in this case, the website will be boxed. Every full width elements will be boxed. That featured image would be full width if there was no background set
https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/td-post-lenovo-details-new-computers-that-could-be-heading-our-way-in-2015/

It would be very hard to modify the post header with CSS to break from the general container in this case.

Thanks

Hi tagDIV,

Thank you for the theme, it looks great but perhaps you can help with an issue I have spent a few hours trying to figure out.

I have followed your guidelines (http://www.screencast.com/t/zrDage9q2) for changing the background image on the homepage. In the demo, this is a camel picture but I not the version I have imported seems to be off some streets in Europe somewhere. Anyway, I have tried using to composer and now visual composer but the image remains on the streets.

I have edited the row and input my image many times. Updated the page over and over etc. However, the streets are still showing. Perhaps you can tell me what i am doing wrong and how I can fix this issue? Your guideance to previous posters has not worked and I have spent many hours on this already.

Thanks very much!

Hi I have installed the black version demo with content on but when I go to my site thewealthyforever.com

I am getting a mostly blank page?

For some reason the posts weren’t there when i switched from one demo to another. They weren’t in the trash either…any suggestions of another way to dig them up?

Simion C.

Hi,

When installing a new demo, your posts (the ones you create) are not affected. If you install a demo with content, there will be demo content imported included some posts. When the demo is uninstalled these demo posts are removed, they are for demo purposes only.

So basically only demo posts are affected, your posts will not be touched in any way. Do not edit demo posts and use them, they will be removed when uninstalling the demo.

Hi,

You will have to decide by yourself, a demo is simply a customization of the default theme. All of them can be seen here
https://demo.tagdiv.com/select_demo/select_demo_newspaper

The base functionality is the same for all demos, demos contain only additional design which will be loaded after you install a demo.
Check them all out, choose the one you like best and you think is suited for your purpose.

Thanks
