Having issues. Not my first rodeo with Newspaper. I did not upgrade from v4 of Newspaper to v6.1 – fresh database.

Uploaded Newspaper, Newspaper Child, activated Newspaper Child then VC and TD Social Counter – in that order. I’m getting the VC Menu link for its settings in the admin menu and when creating a page the builder does not show any Newspaper blocks at all. VC is showing me the demo homepage templates loaded into it by Newspaper, but when I use them, the blocks are not editable, only sortable.

Front-end of the site is loading fine. Even uses the blocks from the theme when I use a template to get it rolling, but I can’t edit the settings for it, obviously. Even tried installing and activating the API plugin to see if it would help, but no go.

This is for my main site. I’ve been testing for a few days on my development site, which is located at a subdomain of my main site, and everything has been working BEAUTIFULLY there with Newspaper 6. Really impressed with the improvements. Can’t figure out what’s making VC dumb at the moment.

What’s the malfunction?

first, lil´success on a milestone:
after one day off work and the weekend solved my previous problems with login/speed. Finally got a 85/100 on google website speed insights, plus loading speed of under a second (around ,5 sec) AND nothing broken on the website so far.

How I did it?
Followed Chris functions.php tutorial (see top of this forum thread), thanks Chris. Obviously not 100 percent yet and on the mobile side of things also improved dramatically, but more to do still (60/100)

Lastly, after every single tweak I checked my site (cleared cache, went to Google website insights and double checked again, before I continue so to isolate the outcome of my input and then act accordingly. Save time, educated me better and finally improved my results so far.

Tip: Don´t do anything without a backup and make sure wen you do your speed testing you use your target market location and not California or England etc if your target market is France, Brazil etc…(you´ll aleays receive bad results, although).

My Question:
How to best use images that automatically link “back” to my pages and post as I need them?
I´ve tried via grid style however the page mode on the backend seems not to work properly or i miss something (chose the ID and the type in methods) both not really fruitfull so far.
I want to have just the images (on a grid) that are clickable? Obviously the look and feel is here very important as well as page load time.

I do not necessarily want image and post excerpt like I get when I use the post/grid style.

I need to hide the date for the posts on the homepage and show them only on the post view

Been busy re-configuring my site after switching to NP6.1, and soon after discovered none of the content in my posts is displaying. Any idea what’s happening here?

1. Visual composer is set to pages only.
2. I can edit the posts through the All Posts admin section.

Thanks for a great theme! We’ve just updated to the latest version from v4.6 to 6.1

All is well, except the page view counters are now gone from our homepage! Instead, it shows a comment counter.

Can you please check (www.askdrmaxwell.com) and advise on how to get rid of comment counter from home page, and instead replace it with the view count like before?

1st things 1st, new version of Newspaper is awesome! 😀 I really like it a lot so far, thank you for the upgrade and your great work.

In this version, if SHOW DATE option is off in the theme panel, the date never gets printed at all. Before, the date would get printed but hidden afterwards. Is it better this way? I prefer to print the date and hide it, I believe that it helps SEO to print it but I also read that search engines don’t like a page that hides (via css) too much things from users. So in the end, is this just a personal choice? [this is just a thought not an issue submission, I already customize it to my needs] Also, the function seems a bit “redundant” as it sets something to be hidden if printed but it never prints it anyway. This is no problem at all, just my OCD kicking in 😀

But I do have an issue: I never hide the dates, except for one custom post type. And for that custom post type I want to hide the date only when viewing the post it self, the dates should keep showing elsewhere like blocks and sliders. So I have something like this:

It partially works, the blocks in homepage show the dates and when I click and go to the post itself, the date is hidden. The problem is when viewing the custom post itself, if its side bar contains a block with more posts of that type, the dates get hidden there too in the block.
How can I hide the date only under the title but get them to appear in the sidebar widget block?

This issue is not important nor urgent so I don’t mind waiting for help/answer if you have urgent or more important things to do. It might not even be possible to do what I want without changing too much the current mekanism of hiding the date, and in that case it’s not worth it to waste time thinking of a solution for something that is mainly aesthetic.

Newspaper 6.1

I would like to make two small tweaks to the main slider at the top of the homepage.

1. I would like to increase the height just a bit.

2. I would like to increase the length allowed for the headline text.

Any help on making these changes would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I am using Amazon Banner Ads for desktop and google ads for table and mobile. When I use the google adsense code, it overwrites my amazon banner.

I have the three tags that are used in the header ad template. I need my Amazon Ad to display only on desktop and my google adsense ad to only be displayed on mobile and tablet. How can this be fixed?
