Please make sure you download the latest files from envato. There was another fix in 15 Dec (even if the version is still 6.6.2 there were 2 revisions to this version) so make sure you install the latest files. The fix was tested and it works as expected.

Please try to disable all the active plugins, except Visual Composer, clear all caches, purge your CDN file if you used and install only the plugins that come bundled with our theme and try again.
After this changes, if your problem is still there, please provide your URL website so we can further inspect the issue.

Can please tell when will you release visual composer update. As I am having some serious troubles when I try to use yoast seo with visual composer.
The problem is that when I install yoast seo on my site that have newspaper and visual composer. It gets down and site only starts after I deactivate either visual composer or yoast.
I searched for this problem on google and found a reply from the plugin author (visual composer) saying that it will be fixed in version 4.9.
As of now, I am running different seo plugin but urgently need yoast seo. That’s why I am asking for the update.
I will suggest you go back and remove that code in your functions.php file
Uninstall WP Smush.it then install EWWW
Clear your Caches,
Deactivate all plugins except Visual Composer and Regenerate Thumbnails
Regenerate again, then go back to EWWW and Bulk Optimize
Your site should show super quality HD photos and they will be optimized for speed.
Contrary to Bogdan’s opinion, you should try Photon. I use it and my site is incredibly fast.

Here is what you should do.
1. Download the update (Installable WordPress files only please) from envato.
2. change your theme to a default one,
3. Delete the present Newspaper theme, don’t worry, your settings are still intact.
4. Upload the New Updated Newspaper theme.
5. After successful upload, Activate the Newspaper theme.
6. Your settings are back and the theme is updated
7. Enjoy and have an awesome day.

that is odd, I was using EWWW as an alternative to WP Smush.it Plugin, because they limit the optimization to about 50 pics at a time. I even used it months before I updated to Newspaper.
So I suggest trying it out, and if it breaks your site, then you if you have access to your server (i.e like VPS and not shared hosting), you can check to ensure it has jpegtran, optipng, pngout and gifsicle installed on your Linux server but the plugin will attempt to install jpegtran, optipng, and gifsicle automatically for you. This requires that the wp-content folder is writable by the user running the web server though.

Did you directly modify the theme files without the use of a child theme?. In my case I manually modified the theme’s style.css, so when I update the theme, I simply go back and minify the css file over again.
So the simplest means to update the theme and not lose your designs and settings or modifications is to simply change the theme to maybe a default one, then delete the Newspaper theme and install the theme directly in the Appearance>theme>add theme . Don’t sweat it, your settings are not lost.

Unfortunately this error could come from a big number of problems. It is a general error and we cannot point it to a specific thing. I believe it happens due to your server configuration which is not responding, it could be due to a delay or it could also be a temporary issues so you can try this a few times and if you still get this error please contact your host provider and let him know about this, ask them to unblock our demo in order to retrieve the theme data. It could also happen due to your wp install or other plugins might also cause this so you could also test this on a fresh wp install and let us know if you still get the same result. Also make sure that your permission for the upload folder are set correct. You can check this by trying to upload an image in media library. If the process succeeds then the permission are ok. If not you can use the c-panel to change permissions (set them to 777) or if you do not have access to the cpanel, please contact your hosting provider.

This task does not require superior knowledge. You simply have to edit 2 files with a text editor and edit or insert a few pieces of text. You will need to know how to copy and paste and type in a few things.
You will need to edit 2 files for this task: The first one is wp-config.php and the other is php.ini.
You can find wp-config.ini in the main wordpress installation folder.
In the wp-config.php you have to add this line to the bottom of the code:
define( 'WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '64M' );
That’s it with this file. You now need to edit the php.ini file. This can be found in different places depending on your hosting provider. If you cannot locate it, please contact your hosting.
In the php.ini file you have to edit a few numbers.
search for these entries and replace them with the corresponding values. They should look like this:
max_input_vars = 5000
max_execution_time = 300
post_max_size = 50M
If this does not help you on your task, then you will need to get someone to help you.

I read the cloudflare tutorial and searched the forum, but couldn’t find recommended settings for cloudflare and WP Super Cache.
I’m running the latest Newspaper and WordPress with WP Super Cache and cloudflare. Newspaper increased my homepage average page load times from 400 ms to 1500ms, measured via pingdom. This is most likely due to the big grid and other images now on my homepage.
I installed cloudflare hoping it would reduce the page load times but no luck, still 1400 ms. Before I spend days iterating through all the combinations of settings, I wanted to check what others are using to optimize Newspaper for Cloudflare.
Hello, I tried to upgrade recently which failed so I went back down to my current News Mag install. I tried to make some changes in the Theme Panel area and noticed that everything was now grey. Not a big deal, but when I would try and make changes, the save button no longer appeared. I also went into Custom CSS and Java area which is now blank (still showing the side bar but the actual editing area is gone).
Is there a way to fix this without loosing what I have done with the theme?
I want to remove the “more from author” box that is displayed next to related posts in the bottom of posts. I have gone through all settings in theme panel but unable to find out how to disable it.
Can you please provide instructions on how to disable or hide it.

You likely need to be more specific on what you were trying to do, exactly.
Did you change your website URL, and then move the theme files from one site to another… or ?
Usually best to do clean install on new domain, then import the dbase from old site to new; then edit the dbase to search/replace instances of old domain name with new domain name (URL).
In face, we did this recently with the “DUPLICATOR” plugin which does most of it for you automatically!
If you’re talking about changing “permalinks” that is done via the WP admin panel, not in functions or wp-config.
I’ve disabled all plugins and forwarded contact information as requested. I received a reply saying that they aren’t sure why it doesn’t work properly and they would have to dig further and try to re-create. I’m afraid the answer for now is that the Newspaper theme does not work properly on a multi-site install.
I’ll be sure to add a note here if I can figure out why or if the vendor is able to create a patch.

Unfortunately there is no easy way to go about this. The theme has no such option. You can create sub-domains and create a WP install on every one for each category. The redirect your links to the specific sub-domain. Not an easy task. There a re plugins to create sub-domains that may lighten your work.
Unfortunately there is no easy solution for it as the theme uses a different style for each demo and you cannot have 2 demos working at the same time on a single website.

Please make sure you have the ultimate version of the theme (6.6.2). The last update was released on 15 December 2015. Try to download from ThemeForest the ultimate version and install it correctly. After these changes if your problem is still there, please try to disable all the active plugins, except Visual Composer, clear all your caches, purge the CDN file if you use it and try it again. I’ve checked your website and your Console and I saw you have some js. errors, like this: http://screencast.com/t/tsheTJ9X I suppose it might be conflicting plugin.
