Another really weird thing that is happening is that I have ugly fb and twiiter icons in the top right corner. The demo shows nice white ones – I get blue and white. See link. Thanks 🙂
Hi Simmons. Would that be under the Customize menu? Can’t find one for the nav bar text colour, or the icons.
I think one of the options in the drop down is for white … although maybe it’s a “very light grey” … there should be a default, then 2-3 additional options when setting in the widgets. I have mine set to white/grey on top, and then full color at bottom with logo area in footer.
Hi there – I have discovered that error occurred because of a duplicate css style – I hadn’t changed the style but it was present in my child theme style sheet. Once I removed it the icons show up.
However – is there a way to change the colour of the icons to white? Or will I need to replace the images to do that?
Hi Marius. Yes I can – it’s not live though. I can give you a login to view. Is there an email I can send to?
Hello @jambr,
We want to see the issue. Can you provide us your site URL to inspect it?
Thanks again Simmons for support
Hi Simmons, Thanks for replying anyway 🙂 Yes I did already add my social icons and the menu home icon. It is that none of the icons show up = not even the up button that floats along the side, or the breadcrumb images between the items – no icons at all. It’s weird. Not sure where to look for them – thinking maybe a link is pointing to the wrong place or something.

Hi, not sure if this helps, I had same issue on install… may not apply to you
1) to setup social icons, use the appearance > widgets and then drag the [tagdiv]social widget to the Top Right (social) sidebar; open and put in your URLs, select icon type (e.g., type 1,2,3,4 — which will vary the style by color, white, black); “save” then go look
2) for the main menu, to add a “home” icon you have to create or update your menus under appearance > menus … in my case the “primary” menu I added a new menu item called “Home” per normal WP menu setup then when you go to edit the actual menu item on right side, there will be option to use an icon in place of text. (The icons “enhance” the normal WordPress menu editor; unlike some crappy themes, this doesn’t rewrite and break the whole WP menu system; so, you’re basically setting up a custom menu item and then using an icon vs text).
If you’re saying you don’t see *any* icons when you go to do that, then it’s possible your install was incomplete, and may be missing the sprites included in /theme/images/
Not sure if that helps. I just popped in here while waiting on some automated stuff, not wanting to work. I’m not part of the tech support crew. 🙂

Just wanted to follow up on this – my revolution slider is now working. However I still have no icons – can you please help me troubleshoot that.
Thanks.
Only plugin I have is Adblock, when I disable it, everything works fine via the website, when it’s enabled it forces page load on the sub categories and doesn’t start slider :(? Shall I try the install on a diff folder or completely different domain?
Hi I’ve just installed Newspaper and have a couple initial problems.
1. The icons do not show up anywhere. The menu bar, search icons, social sharing, back to top icon. Is there something else I was suppose to install?
2. My revolution Slider does not appear. I have tried to include it on the home page with a shortcode, as well as with the page builder Revolution Slider module – but it just will not appear.
Thank you.
Hello,
We are using ad block here all the time on multiple browsers and we didn’t encounter this before.
1. try this: disalbe all plugins
if that doesn’t work.
2. try to install your site on another domain: instead of http://test.beatzmag.com/ use http://mysite.beatzmag.com/ or something like that.
One of adblocks filters removes some content from the theme and I don’t know which one.
Radu from tagDiv
Hello,
with adblock I get a strange message: http://screencast.com/t/H0ERWNf1M
That message is from one of the installed plugins.
Radu from tagDiv
Hello,
after searching a lot about what could be the cause of all this and I’m mostly sure it’s an misconfiguration issue. Please try this:
edit wp-config.php from you http://filmmaker.com.br/ wordpress install and replace:
/** MySQL hostname */
define('DB_HOST', 'localhost');
with:
/** MySQL hostname */
define('DB_HOST', '127.0.0.1');
let me know if it works.

I deleted all and reinstall wordpress , database and theme from hdslr.com.br ( still with the version 1,0,1)
Just sent the new version via FTP. Same post, same pages, same plugins. All the same

– v1.0.1 = 8,16seconds
– v1.7.2 = 24,16seconds

Hello,
No need.
Please install the demo content from Theme – Options for a demo data. http://screencast.com/t/7bpekxe1
Thanks for the message!
Hello,
Try to use this plugin: Auto Post Thumbnail
Thanks @Simmons
I want to ask if you suggest to use a seo plugin with the theme.
I have installed with my previous theme All in 1 SEO plugin and i am wonder if it needed or not.
Please let me know.
Hi
most modern themes have moved to using the built-in thumbnail system in WordPress which uses the “featured” post to tell the system which image should be used for the thumbnail. Older themes (including many I still use like “Canvas’) use both the “featured” method with alternate timthumb method which would grab “first image placed in post.”
However, there is an awesome plugin called “regenerate thumbnails” which can make new thumbnails *and* make all them the featured image.
If you end up with two images on posts, you need to deactivate the “show featured images” in the Newspaper theme customizer (this is what I did). So, for new posts I place my main image, and any additional images into post as per old skool way, then on right side under featured image select the one I want to appear on home page and indexes, and most of the time in social media, and then you’re set.

Hello,
I just purchased the theme last week and have a developer to install it.
I finally heard back from him with this comment:
… You have nearly 6500 posts, and unfortunately all of them are set up “incorrectly”.
What I am referring to is that none of the posts use the featured image function. Instead, the primary image is just embedded as part of the post text. This approach is very outdated and most WordPress themes do not even support this anymore.
So we are left with two options to get things working properly: manually add a featured image to every post OR try to find a work around and edit the theme (I am working on this right now).
I’m looking for a plugin that could accomplish this as I am sure that this is not the first time someone has come across this issue.
I’ll keep you posted as things progress.
A little surprised here, as I thought that featured images is an optional function.
Are images in the posts really outdated and is it possible to set up the Newspaper theme
with my current posts, which have images inside each post (top, alignment none)
Thanks
My current them is suffusion by sayontan, which displayed images just fine
Just heads up to folks worrying about page speed, one great resource you may already be aware of is my friends at GT in Canada who built a neat testing tool years back, here: http://gtmetrix.com/
Paste in any page URL from your site, such as a post page, and it will tell your speed scores with Google PageSpeed and Yahoo Yslow – but also give you suggestions on various things you can fix; particularly useful is looking at number of calls for some plugins that “dial out” for avatars, social media, etc.
Keeping in mind that most WP themes may have too many calls to CSS files, and some plugins add more, which they shouldn’t (I’ve got one called ‘external links’ right now, and not using any of the CSS in the plugin, but he still loads another style sheet, not needed – having to bug him to remove that …) …
Anyway… it’s a good reference to some of the issues folks run into prior to optimization. YOu can create free account, then run a scan, and then when you tweak, you can come back and rerun test, and see improvements over time.
It’s more useful than running Google Page Speed insights, as it actually provides tips and exmaples on how to actually address each issue, along with explanations – which Google does in a roundabout or confusing way or not at all (meaning Google penalizes your page speed for their own AdSense content … which is hilarious … “you should fix this” – and it’s their content that needs fix!).
I’ve spent 3 months optimizing our main business site (not using WordPress) which has been an adventure; now starting on the WordPress stuff.
I can tell you from experience that Radu and co are doing an amazing job with optimization within the confines of the WordPress setup which inherently has numerous flaws for SEO, like the method for CSS redirect used in the child themes (WP core devs keep using a method not recommended by the rest of the universe … for example).
So, there is a *lot* going on with WP, which *no* theme maker can fully address, only tweak and you need to research common problems and workarounds for *ALL* WP based installs when concerned with Page Speed.
For instance, I do *NOT* use JetPack myself as it “phones home” all over the place and slows things down. SO, every little spinning widget and flashing light and cannon blasting all slow down the page. If you want the most speed with WP, you need to have the simplest layout possible, ala Newspaper, for this kind of site, and then optimize the heck out of all your images, minimize anything that calls out to other sites (like FB comments box), certain JetPack things, and anything that doesn’t run in async with javascript, and avoid plugins which add more CSS style sheets and can’t inherent code, or properly write custom CSS into the head INLINE, not as yet another external style sheet!
Just some suggestions, somebody may find useful as a WP user since 2005, and webdev since 1994.
Hi guys,
I have Yoast installed an properly configured, however, the H1 tag is not being set. The title of the page is not being picked up and included in the H1 either.
Any ideas?
