If you minify style.css file then you need to upload it in themes/newspaper/

It will not affect page speed load.

If you see CSS OR js minify error in Google Page Insight. Simply download minified files and upload them using FTP.

Sadly, Im not a programmer and I dont know what css I have to minify and where I have to paste it in the code later.

I tried to edit the code as you suggest and then activate the plugin. I think it is working.. and without issues… i did not get any alert or site break / FOUC …

AMP is good with the theme, and i think with the optimizer following 2 has become green in pagespeed.

Thank you. I will try to go with the workaround. Speed improvement is important.

As you mention, the AMP plugin is working with the theme, if possible, can you include in the list of validated plugins, so it is not showing with flagged message in the Status Window. For new people like me, it will be very helpful. 🙂

I intend to continue to use the AMP plugin then, seems a lifesaver in current situation, when other methods of speed improvement – cache plugins, minify etc does not seem to be working for me.

I have same issues like above on checking with the two sites above. Using Cloudflare with Auto Minify (and other plugins to do the same in WP).

Kindly advise.

On pagespeed insight, mobile version said that following is blocking scripts:
/wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.js

However, on desktop version, it said that 2 blocking script resources and 19 blocking CSS resources.

How to resolve these issues

Because WProcket minification of javascript usually breaks it. It’s almost impossible to “auto-minify” javascript.

Google has some help on this topic, and I believe I have some examples of how to do this manually in my long winded optimization tutorial thread found in the docs > tutorials > DIY > best of forums.

Theme devs often don’t minify all the files, as a buyer might want to edit/change something which is very very hard to do from compressed version without comments.

However, you can easily do this yourself with an online compressor tool recommend by Google; you simply copy the file, paste into compressor, paste optimized version into file and upload on server over the original file. Shazam.

If you’re unable to find my optimization thread, here is link to compress the JS file(s) you wish to optimize manually (you will have to do again with each theme update!).

And you can use Better WordPress Minify and Autoptimize who make (i think) the same thing and are compatible with many other plugin or you can easily deactivate those not compatible inside this plugin.

I deactivate minify for wpforo in BWP minify,
deactivate mobile template plugin on page with “plugin organizer”

You need to do the things in my thread

a) you need to optimize fonts either by not using Google Fonts, or you need to unhook them per my notes, then manually put the actual CSS in your style.css file at bottom

b) you need to minify the style.css file using my thread info.

c) consider some of the longer winded stuff — which is super advanced; the only way to fully eliminate above the fold issue is to put css in footer, after un-enqueuing it from the header, then use a critical css generator to build the CSS and put into your header.php file.

or — you can try to resolve some of that by using the speedbooster plugin.

Note I am only working with Newsmag optimzations now, and no longer use Newspaper.

Also note, that if you get everything else optimized, the ‘above the fold’ isn’t going to kill you in SERPS.

But there is *no* one click solution to fully optimize your site for maximum speed.

Common issues with loading elements:

a) not enough memory allocated to WP (256M or higher recommended)
b) timeout and process run time too low for php (mine is 2000 for both)
c) mod-security running blocking elements in WP
d) using old version of php (5.4 not recommended; 5.6 recommended)
e) general permisssions issue due to WP being installed by the hosting panel and partially “owned” by root, apache, and not by ftpuser
f) funky issue with CDN setup
g) poor optimization plugin being used to minify or compress elements of code on the fly, breaking capability
h) cURL and other server elements not working
i) robots.txt blocking access to parts of WP
j) custom WP install not setup right, renaming paths and folders
k) mis-match of https and http, www and non-www site structure

These are most often the “reasons” why 20,000 people can do something and 200 cannot.
