hi i been installed the theme, i need hel with this i saw file call patch_1.7_1.7.1 what the mean we need over write?
i was trying getting good score google speed but i got 44/100 and both mobile and desktop, i have dedicate server and installed APC i been follow all instruction but i would like get support if ami doing some wrong

Text Logo not Working on Mobile. - reply

I added the code in and it still does not work.

I originally had the following in the css in the theme panel in order to create the bold and font size.

.header-logo-wrap .td-logo-text {font-weight: bold;}
.header-logo-wrap .td-tagline-text { font-size: 20px; margin: 6px 0 0 30px; color: #222; }

I have tried it with and without your code and it still does not work on my Vodaphone Smart 3 mobile phone.

According to google your site appears not mobile friendly due to multiple reasons: http://screencast.com/t/082WVTNfz

I suggest you test this first without using any plugins, leave just theme’s Visual Composer plugin and also make sure that you disable all html/js compression and test again.

Also make sure that you follow their instructions on how to unblock resources and let google bot view your page correctly, all this guides/tutorials are provided by google in your test page:

Hi,

The top menu was not designed for mobile screens that’s why is hidden so displaying it you may need some other modification.

Hi,

I have checked your site and the images are loading also on mobile devices. If you want to disable lazy load feature there is an option in Theme Panel > Template Settings: http://screencast.com/t/4UcPOSoS46
If this is not what you mean please provide more details (which mobile device did you use), also you can check this without any plugins active, leave just Visual Composer active and clear cache. Disable also js/css minification.

You can use media queries to hide it mobile view:

Just paste the code in Theme Panel > Custom Css and also if you want to hide the Big Grid only on home page please add .home class – .home .td_block_big_grid

Site Speed test results: Pagespeed Insight

Hi,

I’m trying to improve the speed of the site, my mobile speed results are currently only 40/100
I’ve got Gzip on, I’m running Total Cache, I’ve compressed all images with EWWW

I have tried the TagDIV speed booster plugin with the steps outlined on this page

However, the list it produced didn’t seem to correlate with the actual page insight results (with the exception of a couple)

I’m wondering are able to provide a list of corresponding id’s for some of the above that I can try adding to the td-speed-booster.php file or should I just take every ID from the list and paste them into the speed-booster.php?

Any suggestions you can make would be greatly appreciated, I was considering trying Better Wordppress Minify Not sure is it’s compatible with the theme or not?

Ads disappear on mobile - topic

For some reason the ads that show up on desktop are not appearing on mobile version. These same ads work fine on another site of mine using the same theme on mobile. Also I’ve made sure that ads are not disabled on mobile in theme panel.

Jetpack plugin – Which features? - reply

Hi,

Jetpack plugins is recommended for Tiled Gallery and the Carousel so if you don’t use this features I suggest to not use it – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-make-a-gallery/ Also the theme is already responsive so the feature mobile theme from jetpack need to be disabled: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-manage-the-mobile-theme/ This plugin has a lot of features but also it affect the speed of your site.
The jetpack photon feature can cause some issues and while the theme works based on the same system – creates and serves/uses thumbnails for each uploaded image. We have some reports that the jetpack photon feature caused some issues also on Newsmag when used with the theme or other plugins.

Hi,

I just bought the Newspaper theme, and installed it on my site I’ve never used the Jetpack plugin before, but as it was recommended, I installed it.

There seems to be a ton of features to choose from, my only interest is making the site as fast as possible. It seems like some would override the existing theme features like “mobile theme” for example.

So far I’ve just activated “Photon”, I wonder if maybe you could recommend which others I should activate, and which to avoid?

The pagination shouldn’t affect the feeds query.

If you can’t manage to do it I suggest you also contact your mobile application authors and let theme know about this.

Top Navigation Display on Mobile - reply

Hi,

The top menu was not designed to work on mobile devices, that why there is no option to enable it. You can do this with custom css in Theme Panel > Custom Css, but you may need more css customizations when is displayed on small devices: http://screencast.com/t/jZUxEacY

Change sidebar from left to right for mobile - reply

Hi,

This happens because the elements are render in order and the left sidebar comes first. On mobiles the elements are set to float:none and they drop one after the other. Currently we have this issue on the list, we’re looking for a solution.

You can hide the sidebar on mobiles via css or you can use the solution Radu provided in this tread: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/rtl-problem-on-change-sidebar-position/#post-40627

We have this on our attention and try to find a better implementation within newspaper 5 theme version.

This is a recent development this year with insights; kind of annoying; and why you get higher score with GTmetrix than insights score. With “responsive” design, images are often resized vs serving an entirely new image as traditionally it was actually faster since the server caches images, especially high request images. However, now the insights score is based on a “mobile user loading the content” as part of the “mobile first” movement, and so it seems there is going to need to be some kind of element added to all themes which load images much like the ad banners used to load the past few years prior to Google adding responsive ad units …

basically…
if viewport large = load big image
if viewport small = load thumbnail

Dumb thing is that in many cases, the larger image being loaded on mobile, e.g., iPad actually works better as a “resized” image, since it effectively makes a 640×400 96dpi image into a 340×200 200dpi image for retina displays by having larger pixel density when the large size is reduced on screen — hence why the images look so good on retina mobile devices without having to reload a “retina image…”

So….. stupidly, they are looking at “bandwidth” not “quality”…

Themes are basically going to have to be re-engineered to “by default” always make something like a 50% thumbnail and serve that on mobile devices.

Even stupider requirement because not all mobile devices have same viewport, and so it’s not practical for every page to constantly load 10 different size “featured images” based on viewport — this is what responsive design partially solved.

Upshot — you can live with suffering the warning for now — everybody is getting this — everywhere.

Not sure how TagDiv will address this, or if some super clever person comes up with plugin.

In our case we’re running mod_pagespeed and just updated last Friday (week ago), in hopes it would have solution for this as part of the “resize images” function (well, subset of “rewrite images”), and that isn’t even doing that with Google’s own technology!

(argh)….

Sorry for editorial. I started trying to deal with this April 1, and was super annoyed by the “actuality” of the issue.

Basically a featured image now has to be treated as an “ad module” and load a different size main image based on desktop v mobile. Show me any themes doing that right now. Nope. Annoying.

Hope that helped in some way …. main thing is to ensure the main images you’re uploading are as compressed as possible. I’ve been trying to make sure our larger images are no more than 25kb vs 32kb. If you have an image with 120kb that can be removed, it might be too big to start with.

No simple answer.

Recently I purchased NewsPaper4 theme for my News portal IndRead. I successfully installed and did all required settings. Its outlook is simply amazing. Here are some of my problems I am unable to find solution for. Wish I could get some help.

Mobile menu and Search button is not working and is showing # link in URL.
Latest article section page 2,3 and so on are also not opening and showing same # in URL.

Hi,

First of all i’m not a developer i’m a designer/new to wordpress:.I followed the guide by Chris S, it was little bit hard for me to understand all of that, english is not my main language.I did everything i could to improve my pagespeed.I get 89 on desktop and 74 on mobile.I asked developers at my work, they were unable to help or they just sent me away.
In your guide on eliminateing render-blocking js…. i did everything as said but where or how can i look for ids of these files :

Page style settings - reply

Hi,

Unfortunately the theme doesn’t have anymore an option for fixed/responsive settings from 4.3 version. Newspaper has an fixed grid layout, responsive as it is fluid and style for desktop/tables/mobile screens. So changing the width would not be easy as it needs changing the width value for all elements on pages and for this you would need custom work.

Serve appropriate images sizes for device - topic

Hello,

I’m trying to improve my page load times on mobile devices. As you can see from this screenshot, things are not looking great:

The theme is serving out full-sized images for mobile devices. However, the plugins seem to only work for feature images and images added via the media browser (this is based on their description, I have not tried them). However, my home page is full of images not served in this way and therefore is very slow to load.

Am I missing something obvious?

Unfortunately you will need custom modifications to disable mobile version as the Newspaper theme was designed with an fixed grid layout, responsive as it is fluid and style for desktop/tables/mobile screens.
