Hello,
Newspaper theme generates miniatures of size 534×364
This size is strange for google and for optimization plugins. I have optimized all the photos, but this strange size is not compatible and mark error in pagespeed
https://fotos.subefotos.com/e4c6b08f038318a89748408a4cd973a8o.jpg
How can I change the size of the thumbnails in newspaper, so that they are 533×261 or 534×462?

Reading the tips on GTmetrix.com when you analyze your website issues, is super useful. They even make optimized images for you of the worst offenders.
For photos;
you need to upload optimized versions to begin with; obviously a 250kb image that should be 50kb will be problem with speed. Some plugins like ‘smush it’ or similar can help. If your host supports mod_pagespeed, that can also resave large images in faster formats like webp.
For thumbs, try changing default compression level (e.g., ’60’) in your wp-config.php file, then “regenerate thumbnails” to redo all those at smaller sizes.

Did you check your post with GTmetrix.com ?
Did you review my long tutorial on how to optimize your site?
Did you look at the tutorials in the docs section on suggestions for speeding up site?
All good places to start 🙂
Sorry Catalin but as far as I can see all this information applies only (or mainly) to desktop version and I am very satisfied to its speed. I do not see any particular options or methods to optimize specifically mobile version. I would be very grateful for any help.
Hello gbhackersonsecurity,
Some optimization tools can cause issues, that could happen for any theme. If you want to optimize the website loading speed you can take a look at some topics with solutions and discussion in this matter, such as these for example

For the link color, please check the theme accent color in the theme panel

If by any chance is set to white this could happen. Change it if it is and check the results.
Thanks
Yes, you are right. Thanks a lot.
I was using Autoptimize plugin to optimize .js codes.
Can you please share the render blocking javascript file names that Newspaper uses? I’ll use those in the ignore list so the plugin can be used without any issue.

Hello,
Sorry for this but please notice that if you will check our emo preview you will see that the page score are the same for both devices. Notice that the page speed depends greatly on how well your site is customized and optimized. The only useful guide, in this case, can be found here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-make-the-site-faster/ Also, you can read here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/tutorial-chriss-custom-optimizations-for-functions-php-etc/
Hope this helps!

Hello,
I installed Newspaper and made some changes to optimize as much as possible the site, but now i can see that the site does not charge on my computer. It says that the site is not accessible while, when i check from my mobile, i can visit it normally.
From where could be the issue ?
Best,
Aurore
Hello,
I want to optimize my page with the booster plugin for the pagespeed (google), but honestly … I do not understand a lot of programming.

Can you do this work on my website? Could you please provide me with a quote/price? my web is: https://goo.gl/ysx2ic
Thanks
Hello culturezvous,
Please notice that the speed of your website depends on how well your site is optimized. Notice that is not a simple task and if you do not have any experience in this regard you will do not bring good results for the theme. Also, notice that we have a speed optimization tutorial but this is addressed only to advanced users. So, if you follow the steps which are presented in this tutorial here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-make-the-site-faster/ you can increase the page speed loading and if you are not aware of the steps in this regard, please consider hiring a freelancer/developer to help you because the speed optimization services are not covered by our support policy, as you can read here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/support-policy-2/ Check our documentation here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/ regarding on dedicated server to fit our requirements.
Unfortunately, our theme does not have such an option to minify the style.css file and we cannot recommend any plugins with this functionality because is not tested with our theme. For minifying this file, we are using CloudFlare for our demo and works fine. If you want to read other views from our users, please check this topic -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/tip-how-to-easily-minify-your-css-without-breaking-your-site/
One of our top members here on the forum wrote his own optimization tutorial here:
https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/tutorial-chriss-custom-optimizations-for-functions-php-etc/ and here -> https://www.infophilic.com/get-almost-100-pagespeed-newspaper-theme/
Basically, these are the theme requirements

For solution;
The problem is due to Autoptimize plugin (https://automattic.com/wordpress-plugins/).
i disabled to JavaScript option, everything is okey now
Hi Catalin,
i tested the plug in after u say. and now i figure out.
The problem is due to Autoptimize plugin (https://automattic.com/wordpress-plugins/).
i disabled to JavaScript option, everything is okey now i think.
But the other issue is when i click the next page, the screen throws me and the bottom of the page (not top of the page).
You can set number of revisions to keep for WP by editing the wp-config.php file; you can also try optimizing your dbase with the WP-Optimize plugin.
define( 'WP_POST_REVISIONS', 3 );
https://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php
Basic part of WordPress, not part of the theme.

Images are not compressed/optimized via my web host; I optimize my images in Photoshop and they are all optimized in the same manner.
I disabled all of my plugins per your instructions and the problem remains. Please look at my home page again and note that the stretched images only appear stretched on Blocks 24 and 25 which are the two blocks that have been customized for this theme only. Those customized blocks were the sole reason I chose the Erotic theme; I loved their unique layout. I gave up on Block 25 entirely provided I could use Block 24 properly, but my images are completely distorted on Block 24. Could it be the way Blocks 24 and 25 were coded? (I’m grasping at straws at this point.)
As you can see from the other test blocks that I added, all of my images were shown correctly; those blocks are your standard blocks and show my images perfectly.
I don’t know how to correct this issue. I’m really hoping for your guidance at this point. Thank you for your consideration of this request.
Again … theme cannot fix your basic system setup stuff; you have to do that yourself, as with *all* WordPress themes and any website in general.
Using GTMetrix.com to test a post on your site will also give you specific examples of the things you can optimize with tips, if the speed guide I linked to above is no help. 🙂
Hello,
I would also like to enable Gzip compression.
As the theme is marketed as a fast and easy to use theme without needing to know coding, I find tagDiv’s communication style a bit nerdy and technical. For example the guide says:
“The theme demo server is set like this:”
An amateur like me would ask, “set like this, where?” Is that a piece of code from the .htaccess file or what is it?
Anyway, I asked my hosting provider how to do it and they gave me links to different Gzip plugins.
Question: can you recommend some plugin for this use?
Feedback for future: please try to make the end product as easy (and good) as possible for the non-technical user – as it is marketed. It can’t be that you always hide behind the explanation that “optimizing site speed is for advanced users..” or “you need a developer”. On your theme sales page it says:
“Because everything is perfectly optimized for you!”
Well, mine is 90+ without a caching plugin and not fully optimized since moving from 2x to 3x.
You might look at my long-winded tutorial in the ‘best of forums’ section, as I cover many tricks for optimizing the site – from the basic htaccess stuff, various WP optimizations for wp-config.php, removing google fonts and using system font-stack, switching to local avatars, not using social ‘likes’ tracking, removing unused CSS not used (e.g., woocommerce, bbpress, if not using them); minification of main css and js manually; using a lazy load YouTube plugin to show thumb, and only load video when clicked (won’t work on featured vids outside post); limit modules used ‘per post page,’ to limit PHP calls; make sure using php 5.6 or higher with opcache ‘on’; changing default thumbnail image compression to make images as compact as possible for thumbs; etc.
It is doable. If you have gzip/deflate on, time to live extensions, opcache, and limit external loading, you should at least be 65 as baseline. Anything below that shows serious issues unrelated to theme.

Thank you for your answer. I’m building my own website and i find yours very interesting in design especially the clean setup of the menu background. Mine goes horizontal from left to right all over the monitor and yours is cut in width along with the content of the website. I was looking to optimize mine like that. Thanks anyway.

You need to actually choose one of the other templates for the footer, not the default one in order to use the widget areas. Try changing to the blank one with three empty colums, then save. Then clear any caching; try clearing transients with WP-Optimize; hit ‘force refresh’ in Chrome once logged out. It does work.
Found it.
Disabling all the plugins didn’t provide any result.
Then I realized that I’ve added the Google Optimize script to the theme’s settings.
Removed it, and everything is smooth again.
Hi,
The theme is fully responsive and will adapt the website for every device. All the theme elements are responsive. I have inspected the website, there seem to be no side scrolling issues at the moment
– https://www.screencast.com/t/XAE13GbDHxhh
– https://www.screencast.com/t/JU4C7p1vyO
If it happens again please try and scroll to the sides and see what exactly is causing the issue. Usually these issues are caused by ads that are not responsive or optimized for mobile.
The menu is not working on desktop as well, so it will not work on mobile. Please re-add each of the menu items as categories, if they are categories

This is a guide if you would like to create mega-menus
