Please follow this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-fix-strange-thumbnails/ first and regenerate your thumbs also make sure you have added the featured image right and that the featured image it’s not set to not be shown from the theme panel.

Chris I copied and pasted the snippet from your .htaccess file but nothing seems to change. I also tried turning jpeg to progressive. Do I need to regenerate thumbs?

looks like one main thing for mobile you need to fix is the images
1) set the default compression in your functions.php file per my recommendations in the pagespeed topic (specify 60, since default with WP is 90)
2) regenerate thumbs once you do that to reduce all in size from core starting image you uploaded; but make sure you have backups if needed
3) make sure you use a plugin like smush.it or similar, although changing your default compression might do most of that for you
4) make sure the images you’re uploading to begin with are optimized, per my recommendations in the pagespeed topic — for example for the featured post image you would want to shoot for less than 40kb for the big 745 image, vs 100,300,kb or whatever. Some of mine are under 25kb. Start with quality factor of 25 in Photoshop with 0.2 blur, and see how it looks. Anything with lots of red needs higher to avoid distortion.
Set images to progressive not optimized when saving to web from image application; don’t embed meta data unless you must have copyright info in there for legal reasons.
If you wrangle the many many suggestion image compression issues for your mobile score it will help your rating as mobile is all about speed of stuff loading on page; and if you have 10 photos all twice the size they could be, that is your issue right there for most things! 🙂
Please see the sticky topic top of the forum on optimizing your site for Google PageSpeed. Try using the GTMetrix site to test your speed, as GTMetrix will give you specific info on WHAT needs to be fixed at server level, image compression, slow loading, etc. in more detail.
For example for your server you need to
1) consider faster server account
2) turn on gzip/deflate on server (ask hosting provider)
3) set expiration headers, which can be done from htaccess file on Apache based servers
4) optimize your images, using something like smushit, and/or set compression level with your functions.php file and then regenerate all thumbs; make sure your images you upload are compressed as small as possible from photoshop or whatever you’re using (e.g., quality of 30 if you can, 52 for anything with reds; or try “medium” jpeg quality when save for web).
Those items above are good for about 30 points, and have nothing to do with the theme, but are necessary for ANY WordPress site.

1. use google for js, defer load js, async css and minify
2. The plugin is very big, I’ve configured every part of it with time. I need to know your settings to say what lacks in there. 🙂
3. Before you upload images to wordpress, open that image in photoshop. Press alt+F There is an option “save for web”. Adjust your settings there.
then in the speed booster pack plugin there in default wordpress image compression level, set it to a lower value like 60 and regenerate images.
4. I can see yout html is minified but there are no minified css and js. I minify these files myself and upload them back to server. I don’t use total cache for it.

I have inspected your site and seems like there is a problem with the images you have uploaded and set as featured image on post as they are not cropped for some reason, my guess it’s because they are to large.
Please try to increase the memory limit, edit wp-config.php file and change the limit to 128M like this: http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Increasing_memory_allocated_to_PHP
You can also do this by editing the php.ini file and search for this line: memory_limit = 128M ; Maximum amount of memory a script may consume (128MB) and change it to 128M
If nothing works please try to resize those images and then re-upload them and the regenerate the thumbs.

I recommend simply setting the quality level to “60” by adding directive to your functions.php file, then do regenerate images plugin. Bam! Some people like “smushit” also.
Anyway…. it may not work with png format, hadn’t tried that; but this does work for jpeg images really well.

The images thumbnails used to fill the containers of the big slider are set here: http://screencast.com/t/qsqNdE2g so if the image uploaded is large enough to fill the container will coupe the entire container without blank spaces.

It’s possible, you cloud try to add your own image and then replace it within modules/sliders.. besides wordpress default cropping sizes http://screencast.com/t/ifk8fE1HYk and we added more sizes inside the functions.php file – http://screencast.com/t/2QaaubXnqxL you can also add your own there and then use it.

You also have to regenerate thumbs after you add a new image size.
About the cropping modes, you can create your own images sizes and use it like I said before, hare are some more info about this:

Are you using Jetpack Photon – http://jetpack.me/support/photon/ or a similar CDN plugin ? I noticed that your images link contain this resize=480%2C360 which makes the image link looks like this – http://i1.wp.com/thatcoolwebsite.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/hqdefault1.jpg?resize=480%2C360
Without this CDN the link should be something like this: http://192.168.0.70/wp_demo_009/3/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/maxresdefault41-745x483.jpg
I think this could be the reason for this issue. Please disable all plugins including CDN and then regenerate thumbnails https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-fix-strange-thumbnails/ and also remove and add the link for the featured video again for that post.
Regarding the infinite scroll you already have an loading in progress animation http://screencast.com/t/zca13IONyC which it’s positioned at the center of the block.

Hi, looks like setting proper folder permissions on your site really helped to start 🙂
But, looking at your example post page you have a LOT of work to do.
most of your errors have nothing to do with the theme; so you’re going to want to address all that stuff first. Possibly find better solutions for what you’re doing with some of those external systems. Basically you’re loading too many things from external sites, which will lower your scores; more than 5 external things is bad for speed.
For example – this is crazy:
This page has 29 external Javascript scripts. Try combining them into one. This page has 13 external stylesheets. Try combining them into one. This page has 7 external background images. Try combining them with CSS sprites.
Note you can’t do much about the stuff you’re loading from other sites/servers, but you should
1) remove “versioning” — implement the .htaccess (if running Apache) and functions.php suggestions which I’ve posted, especially for the remove of the version tags. If running child theme you may need to put in child version; not sure on that.
2) optimize javascript delivery; use the td speed booster plugin to help with theme resources; but it won’t help with external stuff you’re loading
3) you cant do anything about the image dimensions of the things being loaded off external websites
4) prefer async – you’d have to hack whatever plugin you’re using for Facebook to load that as async
5) optimize images – be sure what you upload is already as small as possible; also use something like smushit or similar; possibly use my functions.php code for setting smaller default compression size for WordPress built in function (e.g., change from default 90 to 6); then do regenerate thumbnails — boom everything 20% smaller!
7) consistent URL errors coming from your “leadpages” stuff
8) vary encoding errors – coming mostly from leadpages
9) redirect issues – whatever you’re doing with Facebook and Google generating errors
10) bad request with favicon
(etc.)

The http://cherrykoks.de/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/images/no-thumb/art-big-1col.png is the path fro the thumbnail placeholder, that image shows up when there is no images to show there.
Please deactivate all your plugins except those theme requires so this way you are sure that is no plugin conflict that generates this and then please make sure you add the video into the featured video field and regenerate thumbnails like this: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-fix-strange-thumbnails/

This issue appears when using the 980px layout, please try to use the 1170px layout instead we will fix this in the next theme update.
If this dose not solve this problem please make sure you clear CDN cache and also clear your browser cache and check to see if this issue is still present. This may cause this issue as your CDN delivers the old versions of the files.

I’m using the plugin on both our sites running Newspaper, but we use the paid version (recommend using the paid version!). It’s cheap enough and we use it all the time.
Note it won’t grab “first image from post” if you already set featured image and are having theme load the featured image above/outside the post block. It will work when you have a local or external image PLACED into the body text of the actual post box.
We had to do regenerate thumbnails to have it build the images for pre-existing posts, and then it works on FUTURE posts just fine.
Actually, we’re using three plugins to solve image issues:
1) Auto Post Thumbnail PRO
2) Regenerate Thumbnails
3) Thumbnail Upscale
for us these 3 plugins solved all the issues we were having in trying to replicate the old way that thumbs were generated (e.g., with the deprecated “TimThumb”).

As I’ve noted in past, I’m sort of “paying it forward” from all the help I got over the years in sorting things out when I could not solve something and others pointed me in the right direction. Also, I’ve been doing some work lately where I have little snippets of time where I’m basically waiting for something to process for 5-9 minutes and need to watch it but can’t do much else while waiting, so I pop in here. Also we’re getting ready to retrofit some of our working sites with Newspaper, so have been keeping an eye on any weird voodoo issues I should be on top of before switching from Woo Canvas to Newspaper for those production sites. 🙂
