Hi,
Is this possible through the theme panel?
I have the following category setup
Parent Cat A
-Child Cat 1
-Child Cat 2
–Child Sub Cat 1
I would like to have the category tag display over the featured image if you are viewing an upper level category that has child categories. But NOT display if you are at the bottom of the category list, such as Child Cat 1 or Child Sub Cat 1.
Or, to explain it using the demo, I would like to remove the category tag on this page (but have it appear on its parent page: Fashion)
http://demo.tagdiv.com/newsmag/category/tagdiv-fashion-week/tagdiv-cosmopolitan/
I don’t understand why the category tag (Cosmopolitan) appears on this page. If the user clicks on the link for the first page of posts, it just refreshes the page.
Can this be done through the theme panel? If not, can you just point me in the right direction.
And, nice theme!
thanks!
Hi
1. I am not sure what you mean but if you want to count the post’s shares you would need a plugin as the theme doesn’t have an option for that. The theme wasn’t designed to display the social sharing buttons on pages, you will need custom modifications in theme core files ton achieve that. You can find some useful information in this topic: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/can-i-edit-block3/ Please note that this is complex tacks and you’re not aware of the steps you need to take in this regard please consider hiring a developer or a freelancer to do this for you as we can’t offer custom services at the moment.
2. You can remove the Pintrest share button by editing td_module_single.php file and delete this line: http://screencast.com/t/4s5kcUCsEvr – http://screencast.com/t/OM5SNSEPnn – http://screencast.com/t/SV7modnT3 In order to add a new sharing button please follow this tutorial: https://forum.tagdiv.com/add-a-new-linkedin-button/
3. Please make sure that you enabled the social icons in top bar: http://screencast.com/t/som0EZIfwQ clear all caches and test again.
Thanks!

Hi
I suspect you’re using page builder + latest articles as page template in Visual Composer: http://screencast.com/t/eRU4fCDo You can find more informations about page templates in our documentation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/page-templates-2/ Also you can change the sidebar from page settings: http://screencast.com/t/7y3bwpnv2J and you can customize the latest article area from posts loop settings: http://screencast.com/t/IIpzqFa7hQ7 Regarding the sidebar widget that can be customized from Appearance > Widgets: http://screencast.com/t/UH5kUA4Dp IOn this section you can add or remove elements from that widged or change the blocks settings displayed in the widget.
Hope this help.
Thanks!
Hello Emil,
I have spent hours trying to troubleshoot and fix this.
Here is the error code:
Catchable fatal error: Object of class stdClass could not be converted to string in /home/content/77/11795277/html/wp-content/themes/Newsmag/includes/wp_booster/td_block.php on line 131
#1 Only occurs on posts and pages (not home page)
#2 Removes many images, eliminates 90% sidebar and 100% footer
What I have done:
#1 Clear Cache
#2 Inactivate all plugins – Reactivated and it worked briefly and the error came back.
#3 Did an FTP install of theme and Visual Creator (Now version 4.74)
#4 I tried backing up to my last Updraft back-up (October 6th)
It is very stubborn for a n00b like myself; perhaps an expert can pinpoint what’s triggering this.
Here is someone else you helped with the exact same problem (exact location, exact line 131):
https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/change-widget-text-background-color-catchable-fatal-error/
Thank you sir.

Hi Patrick,
The category tag has to be enabled on modules. Each module has it’s own enable button.
1) Enable the category tags on modules:
http://screencast.com/t/vuzc13XPnxK
result: http://screencast.com/t/LiZWwTWpCe
2) If you want to hide the category title on specific blocks there is no option from the theme panel to do that but there is a workaround. You can add an extra class to the row in which the block is placed :http://screencast.com/t/PrldZnw3 and then use this custom CSS to hide the category title on the blocks that have this class set to them:
.hide-category-title .td-post-category{
display:none;
}
result: http://screencast.com/t/hJj0mVAviFEW (removed tags from the middle block)
Thank you!
Hello Petra,
It is true. For the big grids to fill with images faster you need to tinker a bit with the page speed.
Try to follow our tutorial here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-make-the-site-faster/
Another thing you can try is to disable lazy load from the theme panel: http://screencast.com/t/uI82jAjFgqA
Unfortunately, there is only so much you can do to reduce the delay time for the images. If you check our demo, you can see that it has a delay time also on the big grid: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/
Another thing you can do is remove the grey background color if you want by using this custom css:
td-big-grid-post .td-module-thumb {
background-color: rgba(229, 229, 229, 0);
Place it in the theme pane;->custom CCS box
Thank you!
Hello
issue: if we use tagDiv slider gallery with “Media Grid” of visual composer on same post, images on tagDiv slider gallery become like this http://i.imgur.com/aKvNi3j.jpg , if we remove Media Grid, it shows coorectly, could you please tel how to fix?
we are using newspaper 6.5.1 latest version with visual composer 4.7.4
thanks
Hello,
You can try to disable ajax view count: https://forum.tagdiv.com/ajax-view-count/
If this doesn’t work, please make sure that you use the latest theme version and check this only with Visual Composer active, disable all other plugins and clear cache, maybe the issue is caused by a plugin and refresh an article and see if the view counter increments.
If you want you can remove it with this custom CSS:
.single .td-post-views {
display: none;
}
Let me know how it goes!
Thank you!
Hi,
I have checked your site and I cannot access your sidebar widgets to see what you have added there(Edições Digitais) – http://screencast.com/t/v4hetgREW7 Also in the slider I see this post Edição 189 – http://screencast.com/t/TUHUmYBDBInU
I have removed your log in credentials as this is a public forum, so please send an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide wp-admin access so we can access Appearance section, panel for debugging. Also paste a link to this topic so we can know who you are and what your issue is.
Thanks!

theme works fine with mod_pagespeed …
you just need to setup a proper config file either at server level with dedicated box, or by manually specifying in htaccess file what to turn on explicitly — for example I found that CSS and JS minification does not work well — so it’s a “tuning” process for what is compatible with WordPress and what is not, a bit by trial and error, and also see my posts on this topic the past 18 months in forum as I have used it on our server since Jan. 2014 with TagDiv themes.
e.g.,
<IfModule pagespeed_module>
ModPagespeed on
ModPagespeedEnableFilters collapse_whitespace
ModPagespeedEnableFilters remove_comments
ModPagespeedEnableFilters rewrite_images
ModPagespeedEnableFilters insert_dns_prefetch
</IfModule>
see the docs for mod_pagespeed on which settings you may wish to activate other than the default “safe” batch of MPS settings.
Hello Jethron,
There is no option to hide specific category titles. There is an option to remove all category titles though: http://screencast.com/t/eDMrVMtk
Unfortunately the theme settings are not THAT specific, but you can use a custom css to do it.
There is just one problem. You cannot select a category tag by name. It can only be selected by number: first one, second one, third one…so you can remove a specific category but only on that position. If in one post the category you want to hide is displayed as the second one and on other post it is the third it will not work and it will hide another category you do not want hidden.
Bottom line: if you use this code, make sure the category you want to hide has the same position in every post.
.td-post-title .td-category li:nth-child(2){
display:none;
}
Thank you.
Hello,
The shortcodes in the new version were not removed, just changed. Newspaper 6 is a whole new theme built from scratch in order to have a faster, cleaner code. You can read more about shortcodes and block quotes in our documentation(also watch the video tutorial): https://forum.tagdiv.com/post-formats-for-tinymce/
If you want the new theme version to recognize your old shortcodes, you can do that by following this topic:
https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/rebuilding-wordpress-newspaper-quotes-still-work/
Thank you!
Ok, did the one by one deactivation of every plugin I have and isolated the issue to Visual Composer. When I deactivate Visual Composer, Facebook reads my Yoast SEO open graph tags perfectly. When Visual Composer is activated, Facebook totally ignores the Yoast SEO open graph tags and does not pick up post titles or post images which is really unacceptable. This would also explain why I only starting seeing this issue on Facebook after installing the Newspaper theme. Is Visual Composer conflicting with the Yoast SEO open graph tags, and if so, is there a way to remove the conflict?
Not sure how integrated visual composer is with the Newspaper them, so I will also see if there is a separate support page for Visual Composer.
Thanks Chris. Will remove:
# DISABLE SITEMAP INDEXING BY GOOGLE AND OTHERS
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
<Files ~ "^(post-sitemap.xml|category-sitemap.xml|sitemap_index.xml)\.xml$">
Header set X-Robots-Tag "noindex"
</Files>
</IfModule>
I was under the impression that this would keep the sitemap from being indexed in the engine, yet still be followed.
One last question that wasn’t answered. Will that affect my indexed pages in Google? They are 200+ indexed pages in there as www. ?
Cheers Chris!
Hi
1. You can filter the post displayed in blocks by category like here: http://screencast.com/t/3B9CL95TGOzo Also you can find more details about blocks filters in our documentation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/block-settings-overview/
To remove the drop-down menu just disable the ajax filter: http://screencast.com/t/ruyNUPFxqzS
2. I am not sure what you mean, please provide more specific details.
3. You can add a review for every post from post settings: http://screencast.com/t/U20FtLaUTU
Hope this help.
Thanks!
Hello murakami9,
Our theme uses the WordPress standard comments module just styled differently. You can use a plugin like ‘Facebook comments’ https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/comments , which adds comment boxes but you will need to remove the default ones from the theme files. Replace theme’s default comments for each post template – http://screencast.com/t/wNkcby3T05.
You can read more about it in this topic here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/how-to-install-new-official-facebook-comment-update/.
If you do not want to modify the theme files there are other plugins that can replace the comments without you modifying the theme files, but we have not tested them and cannot make a recommendation.
Thank you!
Hi,
Please provide a link so I can take a look. Also please note that if you remove the code and you use a plugin like Seo by Yoast for open graph, your facebook username will be displayed there. So you will have to remove it from your profile or contact the plugin’s developer maybe they have a solution for this – https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/remove-author-from-open-graph-facebook/#post-68188
Thanks!
Hi
Thanks @Chris S for your answer!
@pradeep.m.001 as Chris mentioned above this is a public forum and any registered user can see the information posted here, so I removed your wp-access details.
If you still have this issue please send an email at contact@tagdiv.com with your login details and we will inspect it.
Thanks!
Hi
Replied you here at first question: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/remove-author-and-date-for-blocks-on-front-page/
Regarding the second question please check our documentation about post templates: https://forum.tagdiv.com/post-templates/
Thanks!
Hello jivy26,
You can control the sidebar on every page using visual composer without affecting other posts/pages.
You can use visual composer and remove the sidebar in your homepage. http://screencast.com/t/hKnSBVQobi4Q
And you can read more about visual composer here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-use-visual-composer/
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
@r1kay
Welll … minifying CSS is unrelated to gzip compression… minification removed all the blank spaces. Some services do this as part of hosting, or you can do it manually — see my sticky post on optimization for how to do that. (LINK BELOW)
@rishab55555
For the woff fonts you need to add that element to your htaccess — again see my stick how to topic.
YOu also have zero control over the “time to live” for stuff on other websites like google stuff.
You both may find my tutorials helpful here:
https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/tutorial-chriss-custom-optimizations-for-functions-php-etc/

Hi,
The articles ads are placed in the content(get_content function), and the function is defined here – http://screencast.com/t/VQCmUU7Y This function is used in post templates – http://screencast.com/t/8EyWM8dCb
You can add a condition to block them on a specific post using is_single() function, check this topic as reference – https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/disable-ads-on-particular-posts/
If you want to remove all the ads from your post(including header), you can try to add a condition like this(just add you post ID) – http://screencast.com/t/Yo7c5lffhOfN
if(!is_single('ID'))
You can read more about is_single function here – https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/is_single
To create a post template, please take a look at theme templates(loop and single) and use that structure, please check the official documentation – https://codex.wordpress.org/Post_Types#Custom_Post_Type_Templates
Thanks!
Greetings!
I searched and found a post on this here https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/post-settings-per-category-or-custom-post-type/ . . . but the solution didn’t work for me.
I uploaded the child theme, created the correct file in the correct directory, and dropped in the . . .
&& !in_category('contests')
. . . code in the appropriate files, but didn’t see any change.
On a whim, I tried making the changes on the theme files itself, which did remove the date in the category in question, but not the author (or the dash between them).
So, to restate: is there a way for me to hide the author and date in category listings and single posts for specific categories?
Please let me know, with many thanks in advance for your time.
=)
Thank you for the answers, I actually managed to solve most of the problems, but there is one remaining.
On the big grids, I would like to remove the added color gradient, and I’ve found the answer in a previous post, which works well https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/gradient-on-big-grid-3/
Unfortunately, this removed the gradient when the box is hovered over as well.
Is there a way to remove the gradient when not hovered, and keep it while the article is hovered?
Thank you in advance
Hi Kusi,
I have asked this question before and also solved the problem. You can take a look at my previous post.
