Hi Bogdan,

I did it via filezilla and it worked out.
Now I have to install the update. Should it be transferred in wp-content/themes or in the /wp-content/upgrade?

Thanks.

Thanks,

I just watched the ftp update video on the documentation page and it showed the new theme overwriting the old? Would it not be better to fully delete for previous Newspaper folder rather than overwriting?

Thanks

Hello,

There have been many changes since 7.5 so I recommend doing a full back-up of your site before attempting the update. It is also recommended to create a staging site so you can test the new features before updating to live. This guide could be useful: http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-create-staging-environment-for-a-wordpress-site/

Thank you!

Hello samw,

That issue happens in certain circumstances, the coming theme update should fix the problem.

In some cases, similar issues to what you are describing were caused by a setting in panel
https://www.screencast.com/t/bTBuIp7590RX
https://www.siteground.com/tutorials/cpanel/lets-encrypt/#How_to_issue_and_install_a_new_Lets_Encrypt_certificate_yourself

However, we are working as quickly as possible to identify the source of the problem and fix it. An update will soon follow. We are sorry for this inconvenience.

Thanks for the message!

Hello piemontevda,

Update the theme via FTP way, clear all the caches, remove all of untested plugins and check the results.

Hi,

Please follow the update guide – https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/updating-question-2/
We recommend a full backup before any updatehttps://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups
The theme and wordpress settings should not be affected by the update. Only if you have custom modifications to the theme files you will need to re add them as all the theme files are overwritten.

Thanks!

Hello,

Sorry for the inconvenience but there were a few issues with the 8.7.x updates until we managed to fix all major issues in the current version. Please download the theme again form envato (even if you already have 8.7.2) and install the version available now. Then you can go ahead and make the switch to php 7.2 as we can detect no more issues.
The issues were regarding the tagdiv composer but it was fixed. You should update the tagdiv composer as well as it will not update along with the theme. Delete the current plugin you have and install it again after you update the theme.
PS always make a back-up before any update.

Thank you!

Hi all,

It’s been a while since my last update (I’m running 7.5) I’ve done updates in the past via the ftp method and not had any problems. I thought I’d just ask if there is anything to be aware of that might catch me out when updating from 7.5 to 8.7?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Dave,

I recommend you to make a full backup to your database, remove the old theme and update it to the latest version of it via FTP way, clear all the caches and check the results. This error should not be displayed if the theme was correctly updated. Also, remove the untested plugins and check the results.

Thanks for your understanding!

Hello Sofia,

I suggest you update the theme to the latest version of it, clear all the caches and check the results. Use the FTP method when you update the theme because this is the surest way in this case.

Thanks for the message!

Hello mjehangir,

I suggest you make a full backup to your database and make a new clean install from scratch via FTP way, update all the plugins to the latest version of them which come bundled with the theme core files and check the results. The latest version of the theme has been fully tested and you should not get any errors in this case.

Hope this helps and let us know how it goes!

Thanks for your understanding!

Hello,

On every update there is a risk for untested plugins. The best course of action to test if there will be trouble or not when updating is to create a sub-domain and use the duplicator plugin creating a clone of your site on a subdomain for testing. That way, you can update the theme on the subdomain and see if there will be any major issue so you will not affect the main site.
Constant back-ups are also a very good practice.

Please use this guide to properly update the theme: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/

Thank you!

Hello,

Please also update your tagdiv composer plugin by deleting the current one you have and installing it again from the 8.7.2 package.
if that does not fix the issue, you can try to add this code to your htaccess:

<IfModule mod_substitute.c>
SubstituteMaxLineLength 10M
</IfModule>

Thank you!

You will have to edit the td_social_icons.php file in Newspaper/includes/wp_booster/td_social_icons.php (it looks something like this in the beginning http://prntscr.com/ioob5n) and change the order of the icons from there. But you will have to do this every time the theme is updated because the file does not support a child theme. Or you can download the file after editing and confirm if changes have been made in any new update, and upload back into the same directory to replace the one with the theme update if no changes have been made.

The newsletter element only works on a page, but Tagdiv team says they will adopt it for sidebar widgets in a future update. https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-newsletter-plugin/

Hi. Thanks Nitrofox & Bogdan for the info.
I was able to update the plugin on my test-site (though it said to me that it failed but through desactivation and activation it was OK) but unable to do the same on the prod site (“Update not possible. URL is not correct”).
I tried through FTP (copying the version of the test-site) but it did not correct the bug (and when I desactivate the plugin the bug does not appear).
If the update come with the next release of the theme it should be OK (if we are able to update the theme…)

Hi,
I had earlier updated the new version of newspaper on morenews.pk and it stopped users other than admin to access the admin area. I undid the version to work it again. I was told that newer update would resolve the issue. I have tried it again after 27 Feb update but the issue is still the same. I have done it even by removing all the plugins to see any conflict but it doesn’t work either.
