You only get the new version of the plugin when the THEME is updated, as it’a a “bundled” version and has to be tested to ensure it doesn’t break things.

So, no reason to get the latest version just because it’s the latest version, unless there is a major security fix.

There’s a new update available for Visual Composer as of today. How would I go about downloading? The latest version of Newspaper doesn’t have this version of VC.

You don’t need license code. Ignore the ‘nag’ screen box from Visual Composer.

Hey party people!

Remember that the gzip/deflate settings on both web server and in htaccess (remember that settings for my stuff is based on Apache servers; needs to be different for NGINX boxes, which are becoming more and more common) are good for 20 points or more alone. That is always first thing you need to address. This is what the server compresses before it sends something to the web browser. It’s mission critical, step one.

For example first item in your GTMetrix test:

Enable compression for the following resources to reduce their transfer size by 424.8KiB (79% reduction).

Also for image compression; re checking any image that can be compressed more than 2KB is good idea as it adds up on image heavy layouts;
eg.
Optimize the following images to reduce their size by 31.8KiB (5% reduction).

Generally you can kind of ignore stuff that says optimize by 322bytes as that is 1/3 of a kb. Unless you want to really go nuts on optimization score (I leave that stuff to last myself).

ALSO; to stop yourself from waking up in the middle of night screaming (oh wait, that’s me), test one of your post pages and not your home page; the home page will always initially have worst score due to so many images being loaded. An “average” post page, is best to tune with as that is 90% of your site traffic and what Google is focused on.

And as an anecdote; my original thread on the optimization was actually for the 2014/15 versions of Newspaper, then I switched to Newsmag when it first came out as it better fit my news portals which get updated daily.

Stuff for htaccess and functions.php are “generally” going to be same between the two themes.

So, I’d tackle the gzip/deflate thing first – as that is your biggest gotcha right now.

I took all the steps you have asked me for. I updated the theme to the latest version as well as plugins. However issues still continue:

1- Turkish characters cannot be displayed: https://bizarreturkey.com/arrest-warrant-issued-ex-football-star-coup-attempt/

2- Some punctuation marks like apostrophe cannot be displayed. One example is: https://bizarreturkey.com/director-national-education-fire-atheist-communist-teachers/

Could you please fix these issues asap? I am really losing a lot of time.

In addition to my question above about renaming the newspaper folder, I have one more question.

Wordpress says: The TagDiv Mobile Theme is not supported by the current activated theme. Please update your theme!

Should I delete tagdiv plugins (mobile and social counter) before installing the latest version of Newspaper theme?

thank you for the reply.
The WordPress Social plugin that was discussed and solved by Lucian here: was also neither tested nor recommended by Tagdiv but your amazing team and the community still helped the thread creator to solve it and make it work.

So, you or any other concerend team support team member may want to solve it again with reference to the current theme. It was also told that in future you are going to integrate social login plugin in future updates. You must be agreeing to the need of social plugin in today’s time. Should we expect it soon?

About the https://developers.facebook.com/docs/facebook-login/web/login-button , this button is very small and won’t look good as per themes UI but if you will look at the solution provided by Lucian in the past thread, he made it look as intergated and amazing as it should be. Thanks. Will taking those steps make me lose any data or changes in the site? Because I will have to deactivate visual composer and the theme to update them.

I have already setup the get-header related soultion provided by your and Andrei. I haven’t expereinced nor been reported by any of my authors for any such new errors but even before, it used to appear only few times. Let’s see if gets solved.

and yes, based on https://forum.tagdiv.com/system-status-parameters-guide/ , my hosting system is 2 times more capable than the recommended requirment set written there. My memory limit set to 128MB by hosting provider based on my request and it’s google cloud based capable managed WP hosting service.

Do you think in any possible way the “get header” issue can cause “fatar error” too ? just asking.

I will keep you updated if I will get reported again about this.
