Hi

I’ve inspected your site and believe this is caused by theme’s lazy loading animation which’s script could be in conflict with one of your plugin’s js causing this. First please try to deactivate all plugins except Visual Composer, clear all caches and test this again. If you still got this issue try to turn off the lazy load animation from theme panel > template settings: http://screencast.com/t/YW1yiBDsk5Dm and test the site again.

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks!

Hi

Please make sure that you install the theme according with our guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/installation-newsmag/ Note that you need to unzip the folder downloaded from themeforest and upload the Newsmag.zip file from: Newsmag-tf.zip\Newsmag-tf Also you need to update the plugins from /plugins path. Before the update process make sure you deactivate all plugins and clear all caches.

This could also happen due to your server configuration, so if the process fails again you should also contact your host provider and let him know about this.

Let me know how it goes!
Thanks!

Hi,

That happens because the setting you currently use has been changed in the latest update. It’s enough to go to theme panel >categories and set the category template: http://screencast.com/t/Z2EDhO18khuK make sure you clear the cache, purge cdn file if you’re using and test again.

Thanks!

Hello,

I recently installed the latest version of Newspaper onto a site. I set up the homepage choosing one of the suggested layouts from Visual Composer. However, the problem is that the images are not showing on the home page at all, nor the slider or its’ images.

I’ve tried
-clearing cache
-deactivating all plugins 1 by 1

How do I fix this?

Hi

By default the avatar image is centered on mobile devices, you can check that on our demo: http://screencast.com/t/X07ZAq8nUHI Try to clear all caches, deactivate the plugins, except Visual Composer and test this again, also make sure that you’re using the current theme’s version available on themeforest which is V2.2.
Let me now how it goes and if the problem persist please provide your site url so I can inspect it closer.

Thanks!

Hi,

Please note that it might take a while until your ads to appear(even a few days) and you can try this also without any plugins active, leave only Visual Composer active, clear cache and check it.
I have checked your site and the adsense code is there and the theme just make it responsive and the ad will fill the available space. You can also test your ad code using a WordPress text widget to place the ad into your page or sidebar, if your ad code works/was approved this widget should display the ad.

Thanks!

Thank Chris,

I’m new here and should have look at the sticky post. Your guide is really a big help for me, I did try most of the tips and the site is a lot faster now.

Also, I dig in a lots in the “render blocking css” issues, tag div speed booster seem not to work for me, I tried to move with many ‘id’ but it didn’t work, but I found another way to use W3 Total Cache to combine the css file together and move it to the footer by this code:

<!– W3TC-include-css –> ( put it before wp_footer(); )

But still, there is fonts.googleapis.com/css ( there is around 3,4 files for the font Open + Sans and Roboto + Condensed ) which I can’t move using this method.

If by any chance, could you have a look and provide better method of removing those css file to footer?

Any theme framework using Visual Composer will have that file – it’s not technically part of theme; so hundreds of themes using VC will have that payload, but it’s the plus and minus to this kind of fancy site.

You can minify the main css file per my suggestions in my sticky post on optimization, which helps quite a bit.

Also, luckily this stuff actually gets zipped/compressed when sent to browser and cached so not being loaded over and over.

There is also code in my optimization sticky on topic of disabling VC loading on post pages where it’s not used (at least in my case).

Sadly, for highly complex and “lots of features” sites, there *is* a big payload, but not so bad — some themes make it seem smaller by loading 10 diff CSS files, where here it’s all combined.

Standard size CSS for most complex themes is actually about 550KB — not 75KB. It’s not apples to apples, it’s apples to watermelons — footprint is quite different.

But you can optimize stuff quite a bit for speed and Google pagespeed rating, which should be the main target for using large complex “feature-packed” themes like this one.

That might not have helped, but some feedback (I’ve been doing webdev 20 years and using WP 10 years, so not totally nuts over here… at least most of the time) 😉

Average size for a complex theme is actually about 550KB these days as it combines multiple sizes, shapes, options, layouts, mobile/responsive, etc.

Visual composer is also a bit big.

However the actual footprint is much smaller for web browser via gzip and also with caching in the cloud (e.g., Chrome will cache your data if enough hits come from Chrome users, etc.).

You can also manually “minify” the main CSS file using the tips/tricks from my sticky post on site optimization.

But yes, it’s a bit big for all those features people have asked for (demanded?) — so, there is a lot going on, but it’s better than loading 10 diff. CSS files as it’s actually more efficient for one “packet” …

and some data is actually inlined automatically to help with pagespeed/rating.

There was a post exchange a while back for v4 where I’d asked about what we could “take out” if not using bbpress, woocommerce, multisite, or other things to “trim it” and that would be a good tutorial for Radu or somebody to tackle in a
“what can I take out of the main CSS file”
“what can I take out of the main includes-functions file”

as those are the two big payloads other than visual composer.

Hi

I’ve tested you site on iPhone and works fine. Please make sure you deactivate all plugins again, except Visual Composer, clear all caches, and test this again. Make sure you empty the phone’s cache memory, and also you can test this on our demo: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper_tech/shop/ and see how it works.

Let us know know ho it goes.

Thanks!

HI

Please try to clear all caches, browser cache too, deactivate all plugins except Visual Composer and test again. If the problem persist try to update the theme, also the plugins included in /plugins folder, at the latest version available on themeforest. Make sure you do a clean update as is recommended in our documentation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-theme/

Let me know ho it goes!
Thanks!

Hi

There are a few thing which must be considered when you update from V4 at V6 of Newspaer theme.
Newspaper 6 is practically a new theme, the whole code was rewritten so make sure you made a clean update, meaning that we recommend that you delete the old version of the theme before uploading the new one, more details can be found in our update guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ Also the old custom modifications to the files or custom css will not work, you will have to adjust and re-add them.

1. I’ve test this and the changes work fine: http://screencast.com/t/LJHosDQCWO0Qhttp://screencast.com/t/eRCoQtYu Try do deactivate all plugins except Visual Composer, clear all caches and test again.

2. The page template are different then V4 so as the page title to be displayed you need to use pagebuilder + page title as page template: http://screencast.com/t/lMtXA7G3FJ5khttp://screencast.com/t/7aXoIu4wNpi

3. I test those changes on a page and works fine as can be seen here: http://screencast.com/t/5yAyAtLehttp://screencast.com/t/JVdrWZQG4

4. Try this custom css in theme panel > custom css: http://screencast.com/t/3n0UfYzdO7kc

.td-a-rec.td-a-rec-id-sidebar {
    padding-bottom: 20px;
}

5. Check this topic, Bogdan posted a solution here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/how-to-hide-more-from-author/

6. The theme uses p tag for subtitle, to change that you need to edit the file corresponding with the post template used, for post template 2 the file is single_template_2.php and change the tag like here: http://screencast.com/t/lWuYj4Ftm

Thanks!

Hello Rhonda,

I see you are moving your website to another URL. Try to save your permalinks again and disable all of your plugins except visual composer, clear your cache and purge files if you use CDN.
If the problem is still there let us know.

Thank you

Hi Alin,
unfortunately adding this code to custom css broke my page. After I pasted it, saved it and cleared the cache, the code disappeared from the custom css field and I was not able to find it anywhere. See this picture: https://www.dropbox.com/s/stdve8tfiic0put/css%20break.JPG?dl=0
Please help.

Hi,

I have also tested this on my side and did not found any issues, when you click on a month it should take you to the archive template.
Please disable all your plugins except of Visual Composer, clear cache to make sure that this issue is not caused by a plugin.
If the issue persist please provide your site url so we can take a look.

Hi,

Unfortunately the time doesn’t allow us to provide custom work, sorry! Here you can find some information about our WP Super Cache settings on demo – https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/create-a-separate-file-for-all-css-and-scripts/#post-70655

Hi,

We recommend to use SEO by Yoast plugin for the og: as the theme doesn’t control that. Please check this without any plugins active, except of the Visual Composer plugin and SEO by Yoast, clear cache and check if the share works fine. Also you can test using fb debugger(manually fetch new scrap info.) and see if the featured image is correct for one of your posts. Check also the page source if your open graph meta date are correct – http://screencast.com/t/uhrSwqinmvzv It may take a while until fb will update open graphs.

Thanks!

IDIOT!

Please ignore previous post.

I recently had someone come in and fine tune the site to help in page load speeds etc and they loaded the favicon image into the RETINA Logo Field in the menu – so naturally the retina logo was loading as a favicon!!

By the way – can anyone suggest someone to help me with WP CACHE setup and fine tuning the site – it is still pretty slow – I have loaded the recommended plugin and it is all double dutch to me!

Happy to pay!!

Cheers all

Hi Everyone,

I have recently noticed my logo (which was working perfectly) quickly changes to (what looks like) the favicon.

The page loads perfectly with correct sized logo and within about 1-2 seconds the small favicon takes its place.

Have cleared cache and tried the usual size checks – actually the logo is the perfect recommended size.

Any suggestions welcome

Hello iamkingslefy, It worked fine in my sites and also on few other people site. Try to delete the cache if you are using a caching plugin and try.

Buna

Hi,

for a cdn, try out cloudflare… you have to change your main domain DNS to it but once it’s done, you have a lot of flexibility of what it’s cached and what it’s not. If you switch to cloudflare, try to not enable the advanced optimizations… they tend to interfere not only with our theme but with a lot of web apps.
