Hi,

Updating the theme will not remove the settings you’ve chosen only if you have customization/changes directly into to the theme’s files, these files will be overwritten. If you do have modification to the code you should make a copy of the files changed by you, updated the theme and make those changes again if the files where changed.
Also you can use child theme for some custom modifications: https://forum.tagdiv.com/child-theme-documentation/

Social Counter plugin should work well if you set it like this: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-manage-the-social-counter/

I’m sorry I can’t recommend to you a plugin for share and like, because we did not tested any share plugins with the theme.
You can use also social share/like from the theme for posts: http://screencast.com/t/CZdU5kC8o

Also please follow our documentation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/newspaper-documentation/

Hope this helps!

Thanks!

I would like to have bit.ly links replacing the permalinks shared by your theme buttons. I have purchased and set up my own short domain (go.wfl.ro) to use for links on my site, for tracking purposes and I am now forced to add an external plugin to have this working.
Please assist or suggest some hook function for the child theme to be able to get bit.ly permalinks working with this.

I really love this theme !

Thank you

I was curious if there is a method to have a larger fullscreen logo, The tagdiv recommended size when used full width (no side banner) looks good on mobile but much too small on regular desktop browsers. Is there a way to select a different logo for each screen? Can you implement this function to future releases so I can avoid using a child theme?

Also, I am curious as to using a full screen header photo in place of logo such as this: http://thedianerehmshow.org/ (but as a rectangle, without the cut out space you see on this site).

How can these best be implemented?

If one does not use the banner ad, or align the logo next to the menu, the logo just doesn’t very good at recommended sizes.

Thanks!

It works, thank you!

Anyway, it seems to work only on the real theme, if I put a modified td_fonts.php in child theme this doesn’t work, correct?

Hi,
the theme is the latest version, the configuration is the same as your picture. I use a child theme, with no font property inside the css, but the problem is present as well. You can check it in any page of the site where the font is Open Sans

Tank you very much

FIXED

Sooo, after waiting impatiently, I decided to break open Chrome inspect element and try and troubleshoot it myself.

I realized, I had made my own ads.php and td_module_single.php files in Newsmag-child theme folder.

The update changed these files and so the modifications I made (to turn on/off ads/author on posts per tagDiv forum post) were breaking the ad spot in my header and in my posts.

Woot, fixed it and all is well as far as this help topic.

Thank you for the patience.

Hi,

I suspect that in the child theme you changed some of the files that were updated in v.1.5
You have to also update those files in the child theme and add the custom modifications again.
Also make sure you updated the plugins. The shortcodes shouldn’t be a problem, they will just appear on page as a code, you have to locate them and manually modify them to the new format or use the SQL query (in phpmyadmin) to automatically replace them in the database – http://screencast.com/t/G1SwZNDb

Thank you, Emil G.

Hi,

I can’t seem to find some documentation about how to use the theme api to register custom blocks in my child theme. I found the api class, but I want to know how and where to use it.

Any insights?

Hi,

td_menu.php file can’t be edited using the child theme so if you want to do this you need to edit the main theme files: https://forum.tagdiv.com/child-theme-documentation-newsmag/

Thanks

Thanks- I’m using the child theme so do I need to copy that file into the child theme directory to modify? Also, does it retain the same path )so I create all folders inside child theme)?

Thank you for the reply

1 – It worked perfectly, I will put this on a child theme to be update proof

2 – This didn’t work. When I click on a child category, the excerpt shows both the translations at the same time including the [:**] in both italian and english site versions, and the english version always shows the Italian titles

3 – It worked perfectly.

I want to assign a different WP menu to the mobile menu instead of the default main menu.

I have registered a new nav menu location in my child-theme functions and assigned my new menu to the location. I copied /parts/mobile-menu.php to my child theme and edited ‘theme_location’ to my new menu location name.

This works in that it shows my new mobile menu in the mobile view, but at the same time it breaks the main menu’s mega menu features.

Any advice? Thanks.

Hi, I’m setting-up an Italian/English site with Newspaper 4.6.1 and qTranslate-X 2.9.6 and I need some help

1 – At the bottom of any post there are the “previous article” and “next article” with the links showing the articles titles. Right now the theme shows both the italian and english title at the same time
http://www.albertobonis.com/test/nutrito/en/2015/01/24/internal-post/

2 – At the bottom of the homepage I have a full width Block 1 showing child categories menu using ajax. If I click on a child category, the block loads title and excerpts always in italian, even if the page is set in english. Clicking on a post redirects to the post in the correct language.
http://www.albertobonis.com/test/nutrito

3 – I tried to modify the appearance of the language menu using the string #qtransLangSwLM&title=none# to hide the word “language”, as per qTranslate-X faq, but it doesn’t work.

Thank you very much

I guess that will have to do for now. Just going to make the updating process more tedious. Please expand child theme functionality in future releases. Great theme! Appreciate it.

Hi,

Unfortunately that can’t be done at the moment but we are working on it and the possibility to edit and alter more theme files via child theme will be available in next theme updates.
Until then I suggest to make your changes to the main theme files then take note of them and make a copy of the modified file/files then when an update is available just check the update log and if there aren’t any change to those files you’ve also modified just replace the file with you own. If changes have been made then you’ll have to make the changes again.
Regarding the smooth scroll you can remove it like suggested in this tread: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/remove-smooth-scrolling/#post-23634

Thanks

Is there anyway to expand what files you can modify with the child theme?

For example, I am modifying the Author Box (see another thread of mine). It is not in the includes/modules folder but instead in the includes/shortcodes folder and therefore isn’t overwritten by the child theme.

Also, trying to modify the JS file to remove smart scrolling (because it doesn’t work with Macs). Again, this can’t be modified through the child theme.

On a future update, I may lose these modifications if this file is changed.

Thanks

Hi,

Unfortunately you can’t do this without altering the main theme as the /image/sprite files can’t be overridden by the child theme: https://forum.tagdiv.com/child-theme-documentation/ so you would need to make this changes within the main theme.

Thanks

Thanks Chris.

Unfortunately I brought it back into a normal (non-child) theme, did the VC plugin update and it still had the same problem.
