generally you don’t want to use ANY of the minify functions of W3, as it will break things.

Lucian and chris both are very keen and try to explain you about to install newspaper wordpress theme. But i did not understand properly due to lack of knowledge, but that’s not a problem. Due faster evaluation of web, you must learn some basics. Otherwise, supports members unable to help everyone.

I am trying to make site run faster (it’s very slow and I don’t know why).
I have read the “How to make the site faster” guide and I have installed W3 total cache and i have tried to install tagDiv speed booster, but when I install it, it makes a mess of fonts. Fonts turn to bold!!! After that I have unistall it.

Quick clarifications:
1. It shouldn’t make a difference between the child and parent themes.
2. A CDN is a content delivery network, used to serve your site to people faster. Don’t worry — if you don’t know what it is, you’re probably not using one 😉
3. The caching plugin is actually what would have prevented you from seeing the changes, and then you would have had to clear its cache. You can deactivate it for now (although they’re often helpful, it’s not the problem or the solution at the moment).
Now, on to business.
Can you explain which whitespace you want to remove on your site? There are a lot of options. The CSS that Lucian and I gave you got rid of white space under each row of articles, because that’s what the first people in this thread were asking for, and I can see the difference on your site now.
But I assume there’s more that you want to remove. Maybe you can point out the whitespaces you want to remove on this screenshot of your site?
After playing with sub domains, Amazon CDN, etc., I found it was just simpler to load all the images locally so that things like compression, mod_pagespeed, etc. all actually work. I’d rather have the compression, progressive convert, for faster load than the tiny fraction faster load via subdomain or sub->CDN.
Frankly, a lot of that works if you are CNN or TIME magazine, but for most “small” sites and blogs, not so much.
But, this is the point of testing all the options then evaluating benefits vs drawbacks. I spent the entire month of January this year doing nothing but this kind of thing. Now I’ve gotten a tad cynical about it.
I look forward to all this shite being in the past, as it’s brain numbing. 🙂

Looks fine to me, this is “Ubuntu” on your page: http://screencast.com/t/tyYTqVEex and look’s to me like it dose on google fonts page: http://screencast.com/t/BsD9l6Xvi the point is that the fonts do change, please use the one that looks fine, from I have noticed the one that you are using now looks fine and supports the turkish characters.
2. This usually happens because of the speed booster plugin which move the css and js at the bottom of the page structure so that the page will load faster, this is why the theme blue color appears first then changes, because of the cascading property of css, the same regarding fonts.
What you can do is to use the method I suggested before and change the color and the fonts directly into the css style-sheet which will make your colors and your fonts to load first and stay that way. You could also deactivate the plugin if you don’t need it.
3. Regarding the theme panel’s custom typography I have made some tests with it to check if it’s working well and noticed that works just fine for widgets title:

This only changes the widgets title, not the block title, for that you will need custom css.

Try to change it yourself like this, I’m not sure why it dose not work for you, it may be due to some plugins or the speed booster plugin which overwrites the settings from theme panel, try this without any plugin activated and check if works.
Like I said before the best solution would be to replace the fonts and color as you like and need into the style.css file, this will solve both issues if you want to use the speed booster plugin or try to see if this works without the plugin.

Hey guys,
I have been working on a social sharing plugin for the Newspaper theme. Since the social sharing buttons that comes with the theme isn’t pretty great and all the other famous plugins are full of bloat-ware, I decided to make it as clean as possible.
So, I tried Bootstrap and Font Awesome to make the buttons. It worked properly but then I found out that the theme has custom version of Bootstrap, meaning that it conflicts with the stock-version of Bootstrap. Christopher,(the man who supports almost everyone at the forum ;)) suggested me to change the classes. So, I did but didn’t work.
Then I decided to move it to PureCSS and it worked. Here is how it looks like:

Yes, it is a lot like the RRSSB plugin but the plugin doesn’t play well with the Newspaper theme.

I currently have 90 for my desktop site and 75 for mobile (http://bit.ly/1tKOeYu). I have minified all of the theme files and did everything to speed up the site. But, as I use AdSense and Google Analytic, the speed is a bit slow. For example, as you can see on the screenshot bellow, Google is asking me to Leverage Browser Caching for this URL: http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js and other URLs.
But as I don’t have access to the files, I can’t do anything to them. 🙁 So, how am I meant to modify them to make the site faster? The same thing is happening on the Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content section where Google asks me to Optimize CSS Delivery for one of their Google Fonts. And Minify JS for their Google AdSense script.

Please see the sticky topic top of the forum on optimizing your site for Google PageSpeed. Try using the GTMetrix site to test your speed, as GTMetrix will give you specific info on WHAT needs to be fixed at server level, image compression, slow loading, etc. in more detail.
For example for your server you need to
1) consider faster server account
2) turn on gzip/deflate on server (ask hosting provider)
3) set expiration headers, which can be done from htaccess file on Apache based servers
4) optimize your images, using something like smushit, and/or set compression level with your functions.php file and then regenerate all thumbs; make sure your images you upload are compressed as small as possible from photoshop or whatever you’re using (e.g., quality of 30 if you can, 52 for anything with reds; or try “medium” jpeg quality when save for web).
Those items above are good for about 30 points, and have nothing to do with the theme, but are necessary for ANY WordPress site.
Actually, if you’re using mod_pagespeed and caching on your server, then (at least in our case), our images load faster via local cache after the first visit. And you have no control over the issues you’re having – you can’t change the URLs as used by Photon as the CDN likely uses the ?= for cache control to manage updates automatically.
Always a trade off on that stuff. And you would need to do some actual tests on “page load speeds” for the images to see how that works.
In our case, our dedicated server with APC and mod_pagespeed was faster than Amazon’s CDN after first load, unless somebody happened to be in a really far away country.
Your mileage may vary, obviously. But only way to get around the issues with outside sites impacting your rating, is simply not to use them 🙂

If we could change the url type or force the wordpress resized images to upload to photon, it would be something great. 🙂
