If you have newspaper 4, then the you will have to update via ftp. Delete your current theme and then do a clean install of newspaper 7 You install it just like installing a totally new theme because there is no way to update from the old version of the theme. Unfortunately you will not find all of the files in the wordpress editor. In some cases you have to use ftp and download the file itself, modify it and then re-upload and replace the original .

Try to disable all the active plugins, leave just Visual Composer to active, clear all your caches and install only the plugins that come bundled with the theme packet and rule out any conflicting plugins. Please only use the visual composer version that comes with the theme. Please disable the plugin and delete it from the plugins section and then install it again from here: http://screencast.com/t/PtNqOuhl
If the error is still there, then access your files via ftp and delete visual composer (js composer) from your plugins folder and then try to install again.
