Hi,
the internal category page, allows at most a list of max 10 news: how can I get to display (on the same page) more than 10 news in the list? This is because, with only 10 news listed, my sidebar lenght exceed the news content of the page (e.g. http://43b.60a.myftpupload.com/category/sannio/).
Thank you very much for any appreciated help.

Hello,

You can follow this guide to update your theme: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
(the FTP way is the safest one as it does not depend on other software)

@TheRIZ
As for the widget issue i’m not sure why it happened. Are you maybe updating from an older version of the theme? Mainly newspaper 4?

Well, your site is messed up. Nobody here can help you with the back end.

Switch to default twenty-fifteen theme.
Make backup of all your site files via FTP; make backup of dbase via phpmyadmin.

Clear cache; disable cache plugins. Delete cache plugins. Delete any additions to the htaccess file from the caching plugins if yours do that for custom rewrites.

a) disable and remove all plugins except for Visual Composer – a bad, compromised, hacked, broken plugin can break other stuff; rename the plugins folder xplugins to reset for WP
b) install CLEAN version of WP via FTP (delete the wp-admin, wp-includes; all the root WP files except config); upload the new ones from the wordpress.org zip download
c) login to WP; rename plugins folder back to plugins
d) turn on visual composer
e) turn on the TagDiv theme

See where you’re at.

Hi
I´m new here. I want to update my theme, but i’m not sure what i’ve to do. Will I loose my own personalization if i change all the archives through a FTP client?
Thx

Be sure to change your password for superuser account if not already done.

You should ideally replace all plugins, clean install of WordPress, clean install of theme, etc. to be safe.

Do updates via FTP and not the Envato toolkit.

Have your host do a security scan for any rootkit — remove any plugins you don’t recognize; check your htaccess for any malicious code.

Read those 3 links suggested in detail to be safe.

Only you can repair/correct/salvage your website — it’s not theme specific. While folks here can give advice, only you can clean up, repair and then properly secure your WP install.

I would do as Chris suggested, use ftp and overwrite all files that way. worked for me

Chris…I FTP’ed all the files as you suggested, overwriting the old files.

Now I have a cut off error in my dashboard

http://imgbox.com/npcEp546

and an error code displaying on my site

🙁

I usually upload via FTP, as the “decompress, delete, write new folder” process can “time out” on some systems if your settings for php are not set to run long enough.

Best way is to decompress the zip on your hard drive, then upload via FTP to the theme folder.

Seriously, it will save you broken themes, nightmares, and other pain and suffering in the long run!

Yes, you need to install via FTP it looks like for your setup.

I want to lower my HTTP Requests and there are some scripts I would like to remove like the script that fades in the images on scroll and some others. Where can I find the file in the ftp so I can alter this?

Also, how do I make the homepage show excerpts of each post instead of displaying all the content?

simchris

See the link to theme docs, right side of page.

best way is via FTP.

Theme has nothing to do with updating WordPress. Best way to do that is manually via FTP. See WordPress.org on how to update WordPress.

New version of Newspaper out today addresses couple of issues with WP 4.4 (nothing to do with “updating” WP).

Hello,

I am working on my test site using Newspaper theme and have added links to our facebook and twitter accounts. However, the “likes” and “follow” #’s are not showing up.

Here is the link to our test site: http://48b.e14.myftpupload.com/.

Our current live site is: http://powerofhumanachievement.com/ and we have 8,289 Facebook likes and over 1300 following us on Twitter.

Hello,
You need to access your files via FTP and change the code there, Yes.
If you do not want to change the code you can use a grid on your category pages and the error will go away. You can alternatively wait a bit for the update to come out and all errors created by WP 4.4 will be fixed.
Thank you!

This change of code is done accessing the ftp? I’m having trouble accessing it at a time. Its change it in “appearance -> editor”.

Hello Lewis,

I’ve checked your site and I saw that you use and old version of Newsmag (1.5). First of all, please try to disable all the active plugins and install only the plugins that come bundled with our theme. You should update to your Visual Composer to ultimate version (4.8.1). After this changes, if your problem is still there, please try to update your theme to ultimate version (2.3.2).

Before to update, please backup the whole current theme installation as well as the database and wp install: https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups

After this, you can use the ftp method from theme’s update guide to uploading theme’s files and remove the previous theme files before uploading the most recent ones then test this again and let us know how it goes.

You can find a video tutorial on how to do this in theme’s update guide here: http://screencast.com/t/jNFnYQ0ONohttps://forum.tagdiv.com/newsmag-how-to-update-the-theme/

Thank you for the message!

Heh …. well, the short version would be … just install the main theme, don’t use child theme at all; don’t even upload it. (I don’t use child themes on ANY of our sites or client sites.) So, this way you have one set of things to optimize, manually minify, one set of functions, css, etc.

Just keep track of snippets with a map of which files/customizations you do. SO, when there is theme update you can paste in your functions.php changes into new file, for example; or if you mod the main style.css – make not of what you changed (e.g., search/replace default fonts). Use a good text editor with line numbering — so, you keep track of “I edited the hook at line 55 in file /theme/includes/td-whattheheck.php” etc.

Faster – no CSS redirect from child to parent; no mix of files, smaller to do backup of your site via FTP, blah blah blah.

So – that was short version. Long version would contain a lot of other commentary you don’t need to hear from me on this topic 😉

Avoid using the Envato tool kit if you can; FTP is still the best way.

Hello ronaldliive,

I’ve checked your website and I saw the error. Do you have any customization on your theme? Please try to update theme to the ultimate version.

You will have to re-add/add some options as the theme contain now more features. If you run the import script after the update it should – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/

Before update please backup the site (database and files) – https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups

You have to remove theme via FTP and install the new one and also the plugins that come with the theme files, you can find them it in the theme package inside the Plugins folder – http://screencast.com/t/lkrma6blYE

Also, please try to change your modules on category and check if the problem persists. http://screencast.com/t/owBvphWu

Hope this helps and let us know how it goes!

Thank you for the message!

Hi,
I’ve added a background image to my wordpress site with Newsmag theme (http://352.be7.myftpupload.com/).
I’m trying, with no success, to make the background image resizable when you zoom-in/zoom-out the site page. The site page correctly resizes on the zoom but the background image remains to its original size, so that it doesn’t fit the new zoomed page size. How I can manage the background image auto-resize?
Thanks a lot for any appreciated help

(I am adding my experience with this problem to this thread – I have not resolved this problem with my site)

I read instructions and watched video and did all of it – adding Facebook app ID, key and token.

I installed through FTP then I tried uninstalling via WP.

I cleared cache each time. (used ZenCache plugin to clear cache)

The Facebook count just won’t work. I’m not sure how the WordPress install ***still remembers the old Facebook Like count, I would like to find where that data stored so I can clear THAT cache/temp file.

If there is help beyond the tutorial – which was a very good tutorial by the way – please share because I have spent a few hours on this problem.

thanks!

Hi,

Try to apply this solution to the get_header function – http://screencast.com/t/1STUPrfBQ9 please note that this is a general wp issue it is also happens on a default theme and the error from webmaster will disappear after a while, after your page will be re-indexed.
If you still don’t manage to implement the code please send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide wp-admin and ftp access and we will try to find a solution. Also paste a link to this topic so we can know who you are and what your issue is.

Thanks!

I deleted all of the “loop” files from FTP and re-uploaded new ones from the re-downloaded theme. Nothing…

The liip.php file that I’ve got:
<?php
/**
* If you are looking for the loop that's handling the single post page (single.php), check out loop-single.php
**/

// $global_flag_to_hide_no_post_to_display - comes from page-category-big-grid.php and is a flag to hide the 'No posts to display' message if on category page there are between 1 and 5 posts
global $loop_module_id, $loop_sidebar_position, $global_flag_to_hide_no_post_to_display;

///if we are in wordpress loop; used by quotes in blocks to check if the blocks are displayed in blocks or in loop
td_global::$is_wordpress_loop = true;

$td_template_layout = new td_template_layout($loop_sidebar_position);

if (empty($loop_module_id)) { //not sure if we need a default here
$loop_module_id = 1;
}

$td_module_class = td_api_module::_helper_get_module_class_from_loop_id($loop_module_id);

//disable the grid for some of the modules
$td_module_api = td_api_module::get_by_id($td_module_class);
if ($td_module_api['uses_columns'] === false) {
$td_template_layout->disable_output();
}

if (have_posts()) {
while ( have_posts() ) : the_post();
echo $td_template_layout->layout_open_element();

if (class_exists($td_module_class)) {
$td_mod = new $td_module_class($post);
echo $td_mod->render();
} else {
td_util::error(__FILE__, 'Missing module: ' . $td_module_class);
}

echo $td_template_layout->layout_close_element();
$td_template_layout->layout_next();
endwhile; //end loop
echo $td_template_layout->close_all_tags();

} else {
/**
* no posts to display. This function generates the __td('No posts to display').
* the text can be overwritten by the themplate using the global @see td_global::$custom_no_posts_message
*/

echo td_page_generator::no_posts();
}

Hi Bogdan,

Thank you for the response.

I did followed the guide step by step(version C). I did not click the update script as I imported the settings from my old website via the import/export tab.

I was confused about how to follow the steps:
– Do you follow one of the steps(A,B,C) and then run the update script?
– Do I have to delete the following files as well or does this apply to the FTP process only?

Thanks!
