Hi,

@jk
Please make sure that you update your theme properly using this guide via FTP: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-theme/
There is an option for this in Theme Panel like I said above.

Thanks!

Hi
all of my optimization sticky applies to both themes 🙂

If you have file editing enabled in WordPress then you should be able to select all and replace all in the style.css file from the editor — we have that capability disabled for security purposes, so I’ve not used that for at least 5 years or more —– so no idea ! Seems like it should work.

Benefit of replacing the original file, is you can via ftp, rename the main style.css to xstyle.css, upload your modified file; if site doesn’t work, you just rename the other file back and boom you’re back.

Doing it from the file editor may work, but generally your style.css file shouldn’t be “writable” for security purposes.

Hello,

Chris posted this in the Pagespeed topic:

“Open style.css in a text editor, such as TextPad on Windows, BBEdit on Mac, or other pure “text editor” – notepad on windows works (NOT WordPad!!)

Go to http://cssminifier.com/

1) in your text editor, select all in the style.css file (CNTRL+A), and copy (right click copy, or CTRL+C)
2) paste into the left box on above website (right click paste or CTRL+V), click minify
3) copy all from right box
4) paste back into your style.css file on top (over/replace) — it should now look line one long string of code, not all the line breaks. This is what “minification” does; it removes spaces and line breaks (returns).

Optionally, make new text file called style.css and upload over the original (assuming you’ve made a backup). With a good text editor, you can also save with proper line breaks (for Unix servers, for example you should save stuff with “unix line breaks” and not “windows line breaks”) — hence something like TextPad 5 or BBEdit are good choices for this kind of stuff. Other freeware “programmer editor” software works, too.

This is how you manually minify the main style.css file. Must be done after every theme update; but literally takes less than 5 minutes.

You would need to replace the original style.css file either via FTP, or using a file manager in your hosting panel.”

I have 2 questions:
1. Will this also work for Newspaper (the entire pagespeed post?)
2. It says you need to replace the original style.css file – can I just replace the minification in the editor in wordpress?

Best,
Carly

Hi Lawson,

I checked your website and the video link you provided.

Both show the video that is embedded start http:// and not https://

Try changing this and see how you get on.

The ‘featured video’ option only recognises videos from Vimeo or Youtube not Ustream!

If you still have problems with YouTube or Vimeo videos when using the featured video option you need to modify the ‘td_video_support.php’ file as in the link below:

https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/featured-video-blank/

You can either modify the original file supplied when you downloaded the theme and then upload it via FTP or use FTP to download it modify and re upload.

As far as I am led to believe the new version of Newspaper (Version 5) will fix this problem.

Unfortunately you suffer due to having chosen an HTTPS website over a HTTP one!

Hope this helps.

Kevin

Thank you Alin.
Was hoping to avoid doing it the long way, but FTP upload was successful and the theme appears to be working fine.

Hi,

I’m not sure what cause this issue. Please try to upload the theme via FTP:

Installing the theme via FTP

1. Download the theme from Themeforest, extract the ZIP file contents to a folder on your local computer.
2. In the extracted folder you find newsmag.zip file.
3. Use an FTP client to access your host web server.
4. Unzip the newsmag.zip file and upload the folder Newsmag to wp-content/themes/

Also this guide how to update your theme may help(we recommend FTP method also for update), it is the same method just that you upload the theme: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-theme/

Thanks!

Hi,

Please check this guide how to update the theme, you can use that same process(FTP) to upload the theme and the plugins that come with the theme files from /plugins folder: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/
You can also try Christopher suggestions about php settings if you still have issues with this.

Thanks!

First, make sure you are uploading correct file — you want only the theme zip not the “all files” zip.

You can also upload the files via FTP, which is generally best way to do that.

But you may have to modify your PHP settings which is most common problem that gives that error.

try increasing your max_execution_time, your max_input_time, and your memory_limit, via the php.ini. You can often now do this via your hosting panel.

Maybe try something like:
max_execution_time = 120
max_input_time = 120
memory_limit = 64M

(note – memory limit of 128MB recommended if your host allows that)

Hi,

@pyantus

Please provide your site URL so we can take a look. Did you update from 1.6 version or an older one?
Also if you need Newsmag version 1.6 please send an email at contact@tagdiv.com with your request and we will send it to you. And follow this guide like you update the theme using FTP method if you want to upload again 1.6 version: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-theme/ just delete your theme folder and upload the old version.

Thanks@

Hi,

Please make a backup of your current theme installation, so you can revert in case something goes wrong. Also follow our guide to update your theme, use FTP method: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/ and update the plugins that come with the theme files from the /plugins folder: https://forum.tagdiv.com/update-the-visual-composer-plugin-wpbakery/
Normally the posts/pages, styling modifications you’ve set in the Theme Panel – will not be effected by updating your theme, only custom modifications to the theme’s files will be overwritten.

Thanks!

Hi,

Please make sure that is not a confusion between Newsmag ver 1.7 and Newspaper ver 4.6.2.
If you need to update your Newspaper theme please make a backup of your current theme installation so you can revert in case of something goes wrong. Please follow this guide to update using FTPhttps://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-theme/ and upload also the plugins that come with the theme files from the /pluginss folder – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-visual-composer-plugin-wpbakery/
If you have custom modifications to the theme files you will need to make those again in new theme files. You will have to upload the theme like a new theme, you will have to delete your current theme folder(after you make the backup).
You can also follow this topic, it may help like, already Christopher suggested: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/how-to-guide-to-moving-from-newspaper-to-newsmag/

Thanks!

Hi,

Please make sure that you use the latest version of Social Counter 2.9. If you don’t use this version please update the plugin properly(try to remove Social Counter folder and update via FTP) from the theme files that you have downloaded from themeforest /plugins folder. Let me know!

Thanks!

Hi,

I also tested this using the latest theme version and did not found any issues. Please make sure that you also use the latest theme version(4.6.2) and update the plugins that come with the theme files.
Use this guide if you need to update(FTP method): https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/ and you can fins theme’s plugins in the /plugins folder: https://forum.tagdiv.com/update-the-visual-composer-plugin-wpbakery/
Also you can try this without any plugins active, leave just Visual Composer active, empty cache and check if you still have this issue.

Thanks!

Hi,

I don’t know what that error means. Do you use plugins, could be some conflicts with some one, what you can do is to rename the plugin folder from FTP this will deactivate them all. About the login seems that you have a redirect or something, could you make a backup of you .htaccess and then delete the file and see if works.

Thanks for the message!

Hi,

Here you can find this solution for Newspaper theme you can take a look and see if you did this like that: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/sidebar-ads/#post-21850

Unfortunately when you update the theme, that file will be overwritten, but you can make a backup of your current theme installation and then update and overwrite the files via FTP so you would have to do the changes once again.

Please post your issues in the Newspaper section: https://forum.tagdiv.com/forum/newspaper/

Thanks!

Hi,

I’ve also tested this but could not recreate this using the latest theme version.

What theme version do you use? Please make sure that you update it to the latest version which is 4.6.2 and test this again without using any plugins and also make sure you empty all caches.

Please use the instructions from the guide below to update the theme and the FTP method to do it and also make sure that you make a backup of your current theme installation so you can revert back to it in case something goes wrong.

Newspaper update guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/

If you still get this warning afterwards please let us know and provide more details bout this issue so we can try to recreate it and provide wp-access so we can have a look at this.
Use our email address to send us your admin login details and please also include a link to this tread so we can know who you are.

Thanks

Upload the theme files from the zip archive via ftp; or if installing zip file use only the theme file, not the larger “all files” .. as that won’t work. You don’t need to put in serial number until it asks for it in couple of days of use. Not needed for setup of theme, which you activate just like any theme in WordPress from the appearance > themes panel.

Hi,

Please deactivate all plugins, leave only Visual Composer active, also clear cache and purge your files if you use CDN and check again if you still have this issue. If you don’t have it anymore activate your plugins one by one to see if there is a plugin conflict.
Also please make sure that you use the latest version of the theme(4.6.2) and the plugins that come with the theme files are updated. If you need to update follow this guide, use FTP method – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/ also update the plugin that come with theme form /plugins folder – https://forum.tagdiv.com/update-the-visual-composer-plugin-wpbakery/
Let me know!

Thanks!

Hi,

Yes you need to connect via ftp to your server and upload the font file, you can create a folder for your custom fonts and upload it there.

Thanks!
