In the article, I often use many different image sizes, and it very often fails to thumbnail size.
Is there any way to overcome every form not missing in the post.

I am looking to create an Authors page using built-in Authors Box widget. Please guide me regarding how to
1. How to display author Bio alongside Avatar
2. How to increase the Avatar size from current 96px to somewhat 250px or so
3. Can we display two different image sizes on two different author boxes?

I have seen similar questions asked before but Pastebin URL is not working on my end.

Thanks

Hi,
Each block use a different image size and on some thumbnails the aspect ratio could be different. If you want to change the image size on a module/block:

Duplicate a section like this and change with size you want: http://screencast.com/t/PtYwy4374
Go to Modules folder and change with the new image size: http://screencast.com/t/8crjXgZ2
Go to Theme Panel -> Block Settings -> Thumbs on modules & blocks and activate the new image sizes http://screencast.com/t/RhyxDxDjrB

At the end you need to regenerate you thumbnails to get the new image size using a plugin like: AJAX Thumbnail Rebuild

Thanks for the message!

Hi

The theme re-sizes only the featured image ad the size set for the post template used. By re-size I mean that if the image is bigger then the thumb used for the post template, it will be cropped at that specific dimension. WordPress won’t enlarge images, only crops them.
Also I’ve checked your site and the images seams to be displayed fine on post: http://screencast.com/t/UHX4rwNGDR8 If you still have this issue please provide a link where I can inspect it.

Thanks!

Hello,

You can edit the files directly and replace the white image with your own. You will have to resize your logo to fit all sizes but you simply have to replace the image and get the same result:
http://screencast.com/t/V81WDLyQPYlehttp://screencast.com/t/M79JT1Ma3bW
You can see thumbnail used for every block/module here: http://screencast.com/t/2n8ObkP7w0

Thank you!

The latest upload brings in http error while uploading images of any size.

I have tried deactivating all plugins and it still doesn’t work.

Media upload works only when this theme is deactivated which makes me think the fault is definitely within the theme.

It gives me a http error (and after sometimes the image appears to have uploaded without any preview but the required sizes doesn’t seem to be generated.)

Please help

Hi,

I had changed the font sizes for Column 1,2 and 3 in the backend but for some reason the column 3 setting totally over rided the font size across all columns. I have managed to sort of solve this issue by setting Column 3 font size to default – its not ideal as I can’t control the size I want.

Also another problem with the Visual Basic slider – when I collapse the window down to simulate mobile view the image is cropped to a letter box format – it does not shrink proportionally, I really need to get this in proportion as this will be the main site promo banner.

The site is http://www.acrvmag.com.au/

Thanks,

Hello tagdiv team,

I would first say big thanks for your hard work making beatiful adaptive hybrid themes. I bought both your themes and planing buy more. Good work, keep going, do not stop improving and updating!

I have couple questions for your team:

1. It is possible to make (future updates proof) custom visual composer element similar to “Block 21”, but with other sizes of featured images? For example I need to make 62×62 featured images ( with corresponding image margins and paddings) for special windows software news category with windows software icons.
2. It is possible to make this modifications to other visual composer elementas like “Block 7” ?
3. How to make my modifications updates proof ?
4. Do you accept paid modification services for Newspaper theme ?
For example we want to integrate post ratings (like: https://wordpress.org/plugins/rating-widget/) to specific news category.

Thanks for your answers!

Hello,

I tested the gallery myself and it seems to behave like that even on a WP default theme. The responsiveness and positioning comes from the visual composer plugin. It calculates them based on the image sizes. You will have to use different sizes for your images to fit the screen properly.
I will add this issue on our list of updates and we will try in future versions of our theme to implement a few responsive options for these VC elements.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you!

Buna dragi romani,
felicitari pentru o asa tema reusita.
I have asked a professional service to migrate the content from joomla to wordpress and we are having issues with too many errors in terms of pciture sizes. I am not sure where the problem is but here is what the site looks like- pictures are of many sizes/ many orientations, some pictures are missing.
http://198.1.95.93/~devgandaculdecol/
Questions:
1. What do you recommend we do moving forward and fixing these image resizing issues for hundreds of posts?
2. How can we add a default image for the posts that do not have an image?
3. Moving forward- what is one safe image size that will not create such issues in the future? I know that it all depends on where it will be placed but some general guidelines would be very appreciated?
Multumesc mult,
Teo

Dear Tagdiv,

Loving Newspaper!

I just noticed something: the featured image of a post (original size 660×385) is reduced to 324×189 pixels when shown in the sidebar of another page. See http://www.greenem.nl/wassymbolen-en-strijksymbolen/
It pertains to the featured image sourced from: http://www.greenem.nl/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/zonnepanelen-kopen-geld-660×385.png

That’s fine, as the original image is too big to fit in the sidebar. Except for one thing: the original image (518KB) is first loaded in its original size and forced by the browser to show only the reduced pixelsize. Which is still 518KB!

I read through the documentation and this board, but could not find this exact question.

Am I missing something? I thought the whole idea to upload the largest possible image size was to have WordPress reduce the bytesize as it resizes it to the appropriate pixelsizes like thumbnails.
Or should I periodically run the ‘force regenerate thumbnails’ plugin?

Kind regards,
Gijs

Hi,

@CursoDeEcommerce
Please regenerate thumbnails using this plugin – https://forum.tagdiv.com/thumbnails-fix-strange-looking-images-on-blocks/
Also please note that the featured image must be at least thumb size used on modules/blocks – https://forum.tagdiv.com/thumbnails-vs-featured-image-size/

@Chris
Thanks for your help. We try to improve the documentation, but the “how to fix image sizes” tutorial exist(I provided the link above). It is in the tips an tricks tutorials for both themes. We still have a lot to work at theme’s documentation.

Thanks!

(admin … seems like the “how to fix image sizes” tutorial is hard to find on the Newspaper docs or didn’t survive latest round of updates to docs …. )

Did you regenerate your thumbnails ?

Used to be an item in the docs about that but I don’t see it.

Basically you need the thumbnails generated on older images to fit those box sizes; where new thumbs are sized and cropped to fit those dimensions.

I use the “regenerate thumbnails” plugin; but some people have odd or different server setups from mine (Apache/Linux/Plesk); those folks have ended up having to use one called “force regenerate plugins”.

Also note that WP cannot enlarge images to fit any size, so in those cases you would want to added the “thumbnail upscale” plugin.

All of those are free in the WordPress.org repository.

My adsense is not working on the theme, and how do I change the sizes of the image frames, say where you have top stories, i need to increase the height of the frame.

Is it normal that the theme multiplies images itself? In ftp I see in uploads folder (2015/11) of every image multiple versions in different sizes, well according to filename. Maybe because of responsiveness? Let me know because i had an malware attack and i have to monitor everything close now..

Hi,

I have a question regarding the image sizes. I would like my featured images to take all the space allocated for featured images on the homepage. With the update to theme 6.0, all my images seem to be now too small (the width) and it just doesn’t look very nice / not slick.

I’m using Big Grid Slide and Block 2 and Block 4 on the homepage.

Many thanks

Hi:
Thank you for the quick reply. The problem seems to be that on the upload of the image as a logo within Newspaper what was once a 1200×160 pixel image is reduced to 1024×136. I have tried several sizes including the 1200×160 but for all those over 1024 they get reduced (reformatted) in the Logo and Favicon upload to 1024 width. Our operation site at http://lagoonpondassoc.org is based on the free WordPress theme TwentyFourteen. We would like to have something similar if possible. In addition, each time the header is loaded a random selection is made from a set of images. Perhaps we wont get there but that is how it is now.

So, can we defeat the reformatting in the upload and would that defeat a bunch of other css formatting rules? Or is there some other way to get the side to side image?
Regards.

Hello,

We are not aware of such modification in the near future. We cannot modify the current thumbnail in our theme because it will cause lots of problems for users when they update. (people have thousands of images that will require regenerating thumbs) Only by adding new block elements that use a different thumb will this be achievable, but this as well is not on our priority list. We cannot say for sure what the future will bring.
You can modify a thumbnail on your end if you need this size: You can find the thumbnail sizes in td_config.php: http://screencast.com/t/uk2vAnc7d
The closest thumb to the size you suggested is the one used for module 1 and 2, block 2, 3 and 4 and big grid 2.
You can edit this file and change the dimension to the specified one. You will need to regenerate your thumbs for the modification to apply.

Thank you!

You might look at the Newsmag theme instead as it’s got a narrower layout, while Newspaper is setup for modern wide-screen displays and HD displays. There isn’t an “easy” way to resize all the templates, modules, image sizes, etc. — it’s possible but a *lot* of work.

To test this out, simply modify the basic @media queries in the style.css to see how that works.

Hello,

The theme uses different thumbnail sizes for all the containers. You can see a list of these containers and sizes here: http://screencast.com/t/tZoV4BN3
If the featured image you upload is smaller than the container (in width or height) it will display with a grey strip to fill in the blank space. The theme crops your images but does not upscale theme. There is a plugin if you want to use it. It is called thumbnail upscale which stretches your images to fill the containers, but the best method would be to check the thumb size used by that particular block element and upload a picture with bigger dimensions than the thumb.
As for the picture in your big-grid, i have checked your site and it displays properly. The grey area comes from the picture itself. The video shown has the grey frames effect: http://screencast.com/t/z9kLmF9Kj
I hope this helps.
Thanks.

Hello,

I am trying to get new posts to work correct but as we changed theme the images, even when re-generated, does not display correct.

Eg. on the home page for thesouthafrican.com the first block it shows a grey area where the image does not stretch to / was not cropped.

What are the correct sizes also to use in

WP-ADMIN -> MEDIA ->

– Thumbnail size
– Medium size
– Large size

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

The theme uses the add_image_size() function and the featured image is cropped to different sizes, for each image are created thumbnails to be used on module. Here you can find all the thumb sizeshttp://screencast.com/t/aWvLdtvDghW2 You enable the thumbs only for blocks/modules you use.

Thanks!

Hello Terrence,

The gap comes from the image not being big enough for the container of the big grid. Please try to upload pictures with a minimum size of the thumbnail used by the theme. You can see the sizes here: http://screencast.com/t/0WRv9zc8Ob If your images are not big enough, they will create that gap. You can also use a plugin to stretch your thumbnails to fit the containers: https://wordpress.org/plugins/thumbnail-upscale/

Thanks.
