That is entirely up to you and your web host and has nothing to do with the theme.

Basically you want to work with host to “optimize for wordpress….”

You do not have to have OpCache installed … it’s “recommended” — and is part of server setup and not part of WordPress or the theme.

I really don’t get why this theme is so slow for my site. I’m talking aol dialup slow, on a live med/high traffic site. There’s nothing on my site that’s really out of the ordinary. I optimize my images, did the cache, have many of the same plugins as my old theme, have the minimum requirements for the theme, etc.

So last question — could it be because I installed it as the demo WITH the content (later deleting the content). Should I try reinstalling it with no demo content? Thanks.

You missed one very important point, you checked the homepage but usually, Google or real people visit individual homepage quite often. And on the individual posts, the same .js and .css file ( One Akismet .js files and other 5 css file 2 from Google API and 3 from a tomatoheart plugin VC and style.CSS .

It was midnight here and I slept so, couldn’t reply to both of you. Sorry 🙁
I am thankful to nairolf for putting efforts in trying to help me and give me the right direction. I was finally able to make speedbooster working by his help yesterday ( and also disabled one 301-redirection plugin by adding few codes in functions.php because of his motivation to use fewer plugins 🙂 )

Chris is my old fav and his detailed ( and many times witty! 🙂 ) tutorial has helped me a lot to optimize my website in the past.

Anyways, on this point,

I am not sure which codes under Chris’s codes are effecting the Query strings and should I try to change “10 to “101 or max” under this code:

It didn’t work either .. perhaps for the same reason why Chri’s code didn’t work. May be I should try changing the number 15 to 200 or something?

For nairolf’s suspicion , I checked all other related plugins to see if any function is forcing the query strings behavior that we set in functions.php but couldn’t find anything. I am using itheme security plugin and here I have checked an option which says ” Replace jQuery version with safe version” ( see here: https://i.snag.gy/4SKTg3.jpg ) Previously my Jquery version was 1.12.4 or something but now it’s showing 1.11.1 . Just informing you if it’s the reason behind something.

Other thing I noticed under Yoast SEO, where I have checked “Remove the ?replytocom variables. ” option. Though it serves a different purpose but somehow related to these query thing.

Nairolf said somewhere above that “at least on Newspaper 7.4, is impossible to remove the query string with conventional functions for all resources.”

Then how did you finally removed these strings Nairolf or you didn’t ?

Can’t we move these CSS even with these query strings? And more immportantly, one very important point which you both missed from my previous comment that, after doing required modifications to speedbooster.php, I can actually see that Style.css, fonts and facbook login CSS etc have moved to footer ( Checked “View Source” page of my post on Google chrome) and when I removed JS modifications from speedbooster.php, I saw it coming up on the “view source code”

If sppedbooster were not working with these CSS files, why it would have moved these files from top to footer. The main question is “why it still appears on Google Pagespeed score? ”

Or perhaps it is appearing GPS because GPS is suggesting to remove these query strings and not raising any flag over whether it has been moved to footer or not?

PS: I can understand that tt can be really big tough to deal with a non-progrmmer like me but let me assure you that I do things carefully and I can be instructed very well 🙂

The server configuration seems to be fine.
We made some tests in the past with 70.000 posts in db and the theme worked almost fine, the delays in admin were no bigger then 3-4 seconds, but I have to mention that we didn’t had the amount of traffic as your site does.

Debugging this issue on such a big site is not an easy task and also require a lot of time and some specific skills. The best way would be to make clone of the site on a development domain if possible and try to debug there this issue. When the site grows like this it’s also recommended to contact a person who can handle issues related with server configuration, memory spikes or conflicts between themes and plugins.
If you can setup a clone on your site let us know and also give as admin to it so we can have a closer look and make some additional tests. We would prefer a test site to void any possible issues which may occur while we make the tests.

WordPress makes a lot of requests to database in admin panel and the response time is very much influenced by how well is database optimized. You can also contact your host provider and ask him if he have some specific suggestion to optimize the database and also for php.
It may also be helpful a tool for monitoring the queries, an example would be https://wordpress.org/plugins/query-monitor/ or https://wordpress.org/plugins/p3-profiler/screenshots/ From the reviews I’ve noticed that these plugins are very useful in this regard.
Another important aspects is the authors/editors numbers. Do you have many of them, also many of them are simultaneously logged in on the site and perform actions? If many users are logged in the queries made by wp and are multiplied and server need to handle a bigger load.

only my opinion: definitely yes.

Even if they are reputable plugins (nobody is perfect) doesn’t mean they are bug exempt. Generally when updates are made, a large percentage of the work is intended to fix bugs/errors. Generally with each update (themes/plugins/etc.), you can see that the code in changed files, grow up. Many times when you use “third parts” maybe you call the same library twice, jam another plugin, broke theme itself, etc.

Have many features on the site has its downside, if you accept the “price” is your decision.

my advice: Spend 90% of your time to improve & optimize the content for your posts!!!

Hi A,

1. Deactivate and remove the VC plugin from WP dashboard
2. Install WP-Optimize plugin and delete the transient
3. Go to the folder plugins in your theme, unzip the js-composer. You’ll obtain a js_composer folder
4. Log in to FTP and upload this folder (js_composer) into the plugins folder
5. Log in WordPress, go to the plugins and activate again VC
6. Delete your cache

P.D.: take care, sometime when unzip/unrar compress files is generate folder into folder. I mean you’ll see a folder and inside that folder you have again another folder with the same name. Always use the folder that is inside for upload to FTP.

As I said, it disappears only when “Fade & Scale” or “Up fade” option is selected under loading effect. In case, I made it off or select “Fade (Full)”, It works very well. ( Check this screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/xUhvWum.jpg )
I know there is no issue with theme options or anything and it’s happening because of the compatibility issue of my this custom CSS

SO, I am using Bogdan’s code specifically for Smart list styles and using my code for all other places ( here it works with both internally and externally sourced images )

I am repeating it again that theme is working very well and it’s just because of my custom code but any help will be appreciated.

With regard at Speed Booster, I can see it’s working but can’t see it impacts on Pagespeed, with ON or OFF, I don’t see any changes in the number of .JS or .CSS file under render blocking .

Does it work only for the internal .js and .css files , not for the external one?

You can notice that all are internal .js or .css files related to either a theme or plugin. Why can’t it move theme related .js and .css files? what about googleAPIs and external plugins like Facebook login and YTsubscribe plugin ? Is Speedbooster unable to render it?

How can I check that what .j and .css files , speedbooster is succesfully moving?

@Sasser The theme is written according with WordPress standards and it’s optimized for best performances. However there are many factors which can influence site’s load time. I’ve checked your site with google page speed and noticed that is not optimized for a good performance. As @Chris pointed you ca uses our page speed guide as a start.
